| Ive bought a few guns there, and feel for the most part that they sell firearms for fair prices(not great, but not terrible either) and the people there seem cool and friendly for the most part. What do you guys think of mega? Chime in on your experience if you've done business with them. |
| Everything has gone up in price recently, ALL OVER, but I think that their prices are now un-proportionately higher than they used to be. PLUS, the increase in sales tax to pay for the CTA and downstate free senior bus rides has made purchasing there less attractive. I buy almost all of my guns now off the internet and transfer them in over at the Gander Mountain Store. |
| I like the store, great selection. The staff is always nice too. I did prefer the pricing at the Gun Shop that was down the road, but they went belly up. the prices are hit or miss, but that's like any gun store. I got my P220 in two tone from them about a hundred bucks less than any other gun store, but I've also seen guns in their cases that are priced a bit higher than competitors. It always pays to shop around. My .02. |
| I bought my first gun from MS. I found the experience to be somewhat negative and since, have only purchased online and had the firearms transferred to other FFLs. The manager/supervisor of the handgun counter was condescending and had a holier-than-thou attitude. Their ARs are also waaay overpriced. Lastly, their attitude toward doing transfers can use some serious adjustment. I haven't stepped into MS for awhile, even to use the indoor range, and I don't expect to any time soon. It's unfortunate The Gun Shop went under and not MS. |
Personally, I haven't had that experience. The people are quite knowledgeable, and their selection is one of the best in the area. The Gun Shop had nowhere and nothing like what MS had. That and with some shenanigans going on behind the scenes led to their demise. You can't make a living doing transfers all the time. Their prices I find are pretty reasonable, especially once you factor in paying for shipping and transfer fee. Also, you get to handle and inspect the actual weapon that you are going to buy unlike an auction item. I just believe it's important to support our local area gun shops so that we have still have shops to buy from. With the close of the Gun Shop, that's one less store where we can go to buy guns and gun related items. |
| I haven't been to MegaSports in close to two years. I have probably bought 15+ guns there, some competively priced, some a little high, I know I've spent over 10K there. Remember that MS is in Cook County and they been involved in several of Mayor Daley's lawsuits. Mark Daniels(the owner) is a good guy and always treated me good. |

I was there yesterday, Class act bunch of guys there. Picked up a RRA upper. When I told them I didn't want the tactical carry handle that came with it, they removed it and changed the price. (GAT wouldn't seperate shit for me) The price was fair granted they are in business to make money not feed anyones BRD. All in all I'd say I recieved 2x the service than I would any given day at GAT. Not to bag on GAT but there's a few shitty attitudes there, possibly due to some of the idiots walking in there, but shitty attitudes nonetheless. As far as the first time in mega, I'd call it a good experience. I'll have to stop down more often. |
| I dont care for them. Most items they carry are, in my opinion, very overpriced. I went there first to get started on my first AR. They were condescending and rude. I went in there several times and each time I would get a different answer about RRA lowers, their price and availablility. They also refused to allow me to do a transfer for a lower after they told me they couldnt get a RRA lowers in any time soon. So I ended up spending my money with the site sponsors here and had my lower transferred into GM. There rudeness probably saved me hundreds.Range fees are also pretty steep. |

They have a great selection, I think I heard that they have 4000 firearms in stock. It's a great place to look but I have yet to purchase from them. I don't know what it is but something about the place just rubs me wrong. I usually window shop there then get it off the net. I almost bought a savage bolt there about 4 months ago, had money in my pocket and was weak because I wanted it bad! I started filling out the paperwork only to realize the price was way higher that what they said just one day before. I walked out and got used one off the EE... Reloading components are crazy high there. |

Most worker bees are helpful. But the owner has asshole policies that are almost as bad as the anti-gunners. 1. Does not sell guns to people out of state. Will not even let them pick them up or rent them. 2. Charges lots for a transfer. 3. Doesn't know how to keep up with the Joneses. He has huge inventory that he carries year after year. Lots of money tied up in inventory, but no fast moving stuff. No coincidence. Owners business plans are always behind the times. It's a shame. That place could be doing so much better, but the leader is the anchor. As in most businesses, the founder will not take the team all the way. |
| I was just there yesterday buying their last SA GI wide body (they were the only people who seemed to stock them and I regret not buying another one when I had the chance). The price was excellent ($499) considering in most places single stack GI's are closer to $569. The service was good but not Nick at GAT good. Their selection is unrivaled for handguns and the prices on certain things such as basic Glocks (G19 with regular sights for $519) may not be the lowest in the area but it is competitive with several other stores in the area in my experience. |
