| Is it legal to carry a collapsable baton in Illinois? |
|
I carry one in my backpack when I go back and forth to class. I walk to campus. ASP, great unit - can be hard to collapse, but very stout. ETA: May be questionable on legality, but I will not be unarmed...especially now that I'm getting my CCW permit from Utah. I don't whip it out and show people, and my Government teacher - and attornety - even told me (after he showed it to our class) that an attorney could argue it as a baton, not a club and dismiss the case with no prior convictions. Sure it's a gamble, but as I said...I will not be completely unarmed. |

I don't carry a "baton", a "baton" is an instrument used by criminals. I carry an expandable pry bar, a tool, used by upstanding citizens.. [yes, I do have a "foot" that I can clip on the end and pry with...] I have also seen a 1/2" breaker bar end welded to the end of a baton, making a "expandable breaker bar". An electrician taught me that... |
My bad, let me rephrase what I posted above. I carry an emergency key retrieval device. Should I ever lock my keys in my car, I can then circumvent my window and locking device to retrieve my keys. It works great for such a case - seen it on COPS many times. Of course, on COPS, the keys were being held by criminals that locked themselves in their cars. Bob |
| A friend of mine has one and asked a local LEO (Elgin) we know if it was legal, and was told it was fine. Question is, if it's okay to carry a knife or multi-tool, what's the big deal, it doesnt have an edge or stabbing point. I'd be more worried about a knife than a club/baton/baseball bat/pointed stick type of weapon. |
Never take legal advice from a cop. |
Thank God Illannoys is so safe.

There it is. If you are going to carry that baton, might as well carry your gun loaded, a set of brass knuckls, and a switchblade. |
how right you are.....
