I'm sorry. I'm confused. Aren't all guns illegal in Illinois? How else do you explain the shootings?

I've never heard that one. Link?

My understanding is that Gatling guns built to the original patent are GTG from a fed standpoint. I've never heard that they are illegal at the state level.

There is no C&R full auto even with the license. They are all considered MG's by Il. Think about it air rifles over 1200 fps and black powder muzzle loaders (repro's) are considered guns here!

I don't think this is the case, actually. I have seen one for sale at a nearby shop.

About 90 days. i had to get a a record of some court cases from when i was 17 and send them to the ATF, so maybe thats why it took so long. but than again they say 90 is the norm.
its not hard at all, go to the ATF website request the forms, fill em out, send em back with $30, wait wait wait wait wait

Pretty easy. Just paperwork and a 30 dollar money order. The trick is to use a postal money order otherwise they hold the check for 15 days. Look Here. It took me 45 days from the day I mailed it to the day I received my license.

Took about just shy of 6 weeks for mine.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that with C&R machine guns, you still have to follow the same transferrable machine gun stuff as with regular MGs.

That is to say, just because a MG is a C&R doesn't mean you don't have to pay the $200 tax, local CIII FFL transfer, get CLEO signoff etc...  You can't just order a C&R MG and have it delievered in the mail like you could a non-MG C&R.

Of course, the debate is merely academic in Illinois since state law bans them.

Okay so your at the range with your Gatling gun blasting away. In Illinois. It's been done at Bristol. And it was considered a MACHINE GUN. Which in Illinois is ILLEGAL. So hope away. NO gatling gun's here. Our cival war reenactor's at Bristol bring out a Gatling gun every so often. Trust me I have asked all the law enforcment i know about this very possibility. NO Go. The guy who own's that gun I speak of has it registered. Get's pulled over whenever he is tooling down the rode with it in the back of his truck too. Cause's quite a stir in traffic.

Silas it does not matter in Illinois as there are no C&R MG's. A machine gun and a C&R Mg are one in the same. The C&R license does not allow you to possess one. The only legal way is to do what I did and go C01 & 03.

Voteslayer, who said that a hand cranked Gatling gun was illegal in Illinois? If you hook up an electric motor then it becomes a MG. I have seen nothing in any of the statutes that address Gatling guns.

Isn't Bristol the 1 round at a time range (I could be wrong about that)?

It's not a machine gun unless it's motorized.

Link

If your friend's gatling is motorized on a form 4 or such, then yes, it is a machine gun. You mention that it's registered. How so?

A gatling gun built to the original patent is not a MG, and to my knowledge, it's not illegal under statute in Illinois.

Next time you talk to a LEO about it, ask them the state statute that makes it illegal. If they cite that it's an MG, they're wrong. My guess is that, like many LEOs, they are well intentioned, but incredibly ill informed about firearms law.

That's what I thought.  C&R status does not unmake it a MG.

If a gatling gun was illegal, wouldn't a 1919 with a crank be illegal also?  I have seen the 1919's around.  I don't know the statute and I am not going to look it up right now, but I suspect they are legal.

IIRC, in a free state where MGs are fine for regular ol' folks, true C&R MGs bypass the Class III SOT requirement for C&R holders. All registration, paperwork, tax, etc apply, but they can be transferred directly to a Type 03 FFL without SOT dealer involvement.

Gatllings are not illegal in Illinois. Outside of Cook county please name me one thing that is banned in Illinois. (outside of NFA) There are no magazine, HP bullets, 50 cal, so called assault weapons ban. We do not have CCW but plenty of other states do. If its not a shall issue state you dont get one unless you have connections.

When Vollmer's was down here, they did have gatling guns, though I don't remember if they were for sale or not.

Of course, they built MGs too.

I've always wanted to build one in .22lr. I think it would be kind of fun.

Vollmers did have several Gatling guns for sale. I screwed up when Rob offered me a Furr Camel gun for $3k. They now sell for 3 times that amount!
