Anyone know a decent gun shop that'll special order a gun at a decent price?  Or seen what I'm looking for?

I'm looking at either the 870 HD or the 870 Express...with the 7-shot mag tubes, bead sight, 18" barrel, and synthetic furniture.  No one around Chicago has one, that i've seen.  I also don't want to pay much more than $300, since stupid me didn't buy the one I saw in Iowa over thanksgiving.

budsgunshop.com has this 870 for 299 delivered to your ffl. There is a 30 mail in rebate, so it makes it 269. If you live in near Wilmington, there is a shop down there that will transfer this for 20.(PK Firearms, Ken)

You live in downtown Chicago?  If you do, good luck on finding someone to sell you that shotgun, because I do believe you can't have a firearm wihtin the City limits.

Not true.

You can have shotguns and hunting rifles.  They need to be registered within 10 days of bringing them into the city with the Chicago PD.

Not sure on Mag capacity - probably something lame like 3 rounds for shotguns, etc.

Can I own a gun in the City of Chicago?
As a private citizen, you can own a long gun, but not a handgun or an assault weapon, in the City of Chicago. You must have a current Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card from the Illinois State Police, and you must register your firearms with the City's Gun Registration Program, 3510 S. Michigan Avenue, Room 1027 SE, between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:30 pm. You can call the Gun Registration Program at (312) 745-5166 for more information.

God I hate that city's gun laws...

In addition to xmikex's statement, gun shops don't care as long as i'm legal to purchase it.  I could be buying it and keeping it somewhere else, thus staying compliant with local laws....the onus of compliance with law falls on me in that case.

Unfortunately the shop
I was going to recommend will not sell to residents of Chicago. To much BS possibility.

I would recommend you buy used. Remington has made millions of 870 shotguns. Not much point in buying a brand new one and paying brand new price. Stocks are really easy to change and magazine extensions are easy to put on.

Best bet is to register it with wood stocks on it in hunting form and then change it to a more HD form once it's registered.

I forget the price, but Dicks out here in Bloomingdale IL on Army Trail Rd, had 870 pumps for something like $350. They will also order anything you want that is in their catalog.

Also check out Village Sports in Arlington Heights, their pricing is really fair.

I've been looking but haven't found anyone selling something locally that's what I want.  Costs of replacing the barrel or stocks would easily exceed and new-gun premium to be paid, not to mention shipping or FFL transfer fees from out of state.

Look into a used Wingmaster...my neighbor has had one for 20+ years and still functions flawlessly...then mod it, I think you can order the mods via cabelas or midway.  Check your local pawn shops for this type of gun and test the action and take the barrel off for inspection.

+1 everyone needs a Wingmaster.

I picked this one up 8 years ago used at Maxon's. Think I paid $250 for it. Was a cop shotgun and he had 6 of them at the time. I've had to add to it over the years. Recently added a folding stock to it, but think I'm going to go back to wood.

At one point, had one of them bandolere slings on it, and I could get 35rds of 12ga on the gun.

After

Edit: Maxon's will order anything you want too, if it's not already in stock.

Yes wingmaster, I bought mine in 1976 and its still my favorite shotgun, I use it for goose, ducks, deer and pheasant; I do not remember every having a malfunction.
