ok heres the deal  i have a a chevey suburban a couple of us bought for the main purpose of shooting the crap out of it.

i want to test different calibre rounds to see penetration (ok so that just an excuse to shoot the shit out of a vehicle)

even want to see if the barrett .50 will really crack an engine block.

all we need is  a place to shoot it, anyone have a place??? i have a tow truck to haul it ways and it can be driven on its own to get there.

this could be a new illinis arfocm annual thing

Would you be able to take the car away after you are done shooting it?

How far would you travel?

When do you want to do this/how long would you wait?

If you want to carry it down to Knob Creek, I'm sure you and many others can tear it up until nothing is left but metal dust.  They do it to small cars, appliances, school busses and what ever else a tractor can dump onto the field.

I'd enjoy being part of that party as well.

Deal!  I'd even pitch in a few dollars to defray costs.

This would be alot more interesting if we knew where you were located, I have a range outside of decatur, and have a machine gun shoot in September, with class 3 dealers and 07 mfgs, just a thought.

It should be a fun time but I'll save you some of the "research" effort:

1) Pistol rounds (even the "wimpy" 9mm ) will penetrate car doors and sometimes go through both doors.
2) Rifle rounds (even the "wimpy" 5.56 ) will EASILY penetrate both car doors.
3) Auto Glass will deflect rounds so you have to adjust your aim based on if you're shooting in or out
4) Shooting from inside cars is LOUD!!!!
5) If you want to deflate car tires "poimanently", shoot from the rim into the tire (I hope that makes sense...).  The metal can't "seal back up" and can't be easily patched
6) Now with most ammo, if rounds hit a window drive mechanism or a window crank or something else, they will often be deflected and not pass all the way through.  Murphy's Law dictates that when YOU'RE trying to shoot the badguy, you'll hit all the hard stuff and his rounds will sail through unobstructed LOL.  Keep in mind, most cars are sheet metal (or plastic) - easy stuff to penetrate.

Primary lesson learned:  Cars are concealment NOT cover.

I've been curious enough about this that I'm taking a "Home & Vehicle Defense" class on Monday and Tuesday.  I'll post an After Action Report in the HTF when I get back.

Take care and stay safe,
Mike

A suburban is no match for 10-20 guys with guns or even 1 guy if with right gun. I know for a fact, yes the .50 will destroy the block, it will set it on fire within 2 mins if API or APIT is used. I know for a fact the truck never makes it very long before someone puts 10LBS tannerite in front seat and blows the hell out of it. Bullets do reflect of windsheild if shot from side, 9mm will go threw the car if is doors, 223 hole in one side, look for a slice in other side...somewhere as its not always a straight line..

We have MG shoots here at my place in MO 2x's a yr, cars, trucks, fridge, deep freeze, computers and anything else, they are all fun to shoot and blow up. Just make sure if your shootin at a car that you have lots of ground around you with nothin to get hit by a stray bullet cause they go bouncin everywhere, ya dont realize it till ya shoot a solid belt of 100% tracer at the car, only 50% STAY where ya wanted them.
