Action Alert from IGOLD's Valinda Rowe:

Dear Illinois Gun Owners,

You are invited to participate in a historical event in Illinois gun owner history!  As you know, when the General Assembly adjourned for the holiday break on March 30 many anti-gun owner bills in the Senate were scheduled for a third reading deadline and a vote. Senate President Emil Jones saw fit to extend the deadline on these bills until May 31st and the House deadline for third reading and a vote is April 27th.  This means when the General Assembly returns from their holiday break on April 18th the battle for Illinois gun owners' rights will pick right up where it left off . . .

Here's the part about participating in a history making event:  MI-GOLD which stands for  "MAIL ILLINOIS" - Gun Owner LETTER Day!!!  Nearly 1,500 Illinois gun owners attended IGOLD - Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day at the state capitol back in March but many, due to work and family obligations, could not attend.  This is a MI-GOLD every gun owner in Illinois can take part in!!

The goal: For the legislators listed below to find THOUSANDS of postcards and letters from Illinois gun owners waiting for them when they return to Springfield on the 18th.  There are over a million FOID card holders in the state with over 250,000 in Cook Co. alone. Can you imagine all those folks sending several thousand pieces of mail to be hauled into these legislators' offices??!!

The letters and postcards do not have to be eloquent essays on the finer points of the Second Amendment.
These cards can simply state:

Please oppose any further restrictions on law-abiding gun owners.
Please support our right to carry for personal and family protection.
Vote no on banning guns - vote yes on right to carry.

So grab a couple dozen postcards, send these folks a message, time your mailing to arrive at the capitol on April 18th!! Please forward this to all the gun owners you know!  Let's make this a another day these legislators will remember - a day they heard from Illinois gun owners!

REMEMBER: Be polite, be persistent, be firm.  Let's leave a positive impression of Illinois gun owners.

Where did they get the information about how many FOID card holders that there are in a given town or county?  I don't think I've ever seen that before.

More letters sent.

Michael Bond  31st, State Senator
M 121 Capitol Building
Springfield, IL 62706

Senator Bond

I stopped by your Springfield office last March 14th on IL. Gun Owner lobby Day. I'm sorry I did not get a chance to meet you.  It was pleasure to visit Springfield and see the hustle and bustle that is government. I look forward to coming next year.

I would, however, still like to know you position on 2nd amendment issues.

I'm writing today about SB1471. The current storm of misinformation about rifles chambered in 0.50 caliber is a another attempt by Anti-freedom groups and Chicago policymakers to find a "vote getting" scapegoat to stand on to distract Illinois voters. These groups use fear and misinformation to generate support for their restrictive agendas. They are doing a bang up job at it. While I am not yet a 0.50 cal shooter I do shoot 0.30 cal rifles in matches. I just wanted to communicate some actual facts and dispel some of the outright fabrications going on around this issue.

Lies about 0.50 cal rifles

They can shoot down a plane. This fantasy no doubt stems from the US Air Corps use of .50 cal machineguns on airplanes in WW2. Even they were replaced with more powerful guns before the wars end.

They are for shooting tanks on the battlefield.  This lie must be intended to demonize. Tanks are targeted by missiles and other tanks. Armor protects them from bullets of any kind.

They can blow up a car. This is an untrue, fear mongering assertion. US snipers overseas use .50 cal machineguns and rifles to disable automobile engines. Despite what we see in the movies, car's do not explode when bullets hit them.

They have no legitimate sporting purpose. The mentality that hunting is the only legitimate sporting purpose is wrong. Target shooting competitions are much more sport oriented. What about the sporting purpose and enjoyment of recreational practice.

Truths about 0.50 cal rifles.

The projectile ( bullet ) in only half and inch wide. Not half a foot long.

The projectiles do not explode.

They can be highly accurate over long distances when used by a highly trained marksman. The military uses versions of the 0.50 cal as sniper rifles for certain types of open terrain.

Shooting .50's is a specialized shooting discipline not unlike blackpowder rifle. Both disciplines focus heavily on safety, preparation and trigonometry to get a good score.

The BATF&E have a special classifications for bazookas / rocket propelled grenades and small antiaircraft artillery. They are highly regulated and not available to the general public. The BATF&E call these "destructive devices". The .50 caliber rifle round is not in that category because it did not meet that criteria.

I hope you will vote against this and any other wasteful pieces of legislation aimed at criminalizing gun owners. Illinois shooters are good citizens. The relentless attacks on our pastimes are beginning to become real discrimination against sport shooters.
I hope I can count on you to protect the citizens of Illinois from unconstitutional harassment in the name of crime prevention.

There are good bills that deserve you support. They are aimed at re-affirming and restoring lost 2nd amendment rights. I hope you will support SB348, SB458, SB501 and SB721.

The laws on the books are quite capable of covering any Illinois bad guys. There is no gap in the code that lets lawbreakers off the hook. SB1471's effect would only be to make criminals where none exist.

Regards

Went looking myself.  I'd have soiled myself if I'd found my name and address.
