efxguy,

Hey, I just wanted to thank you for all your help today on my AK project.  It was very much appreciated!

By the way, regarding headspace, I had a thought if you decide to tackle the same project in the future with a matching numbers milled kit.

Take the bolt that came witht he milled kit, lock it in the milled trunnion, and measure the space between the bolt and the barrel face with feeler gauges.  Once you do all the work and get the barrel pressed into the stamped trunnion, lock the bolt that came with the milled barrel into the trunion, and check the gap with the feeler gauge.  press/hammer the barrel a little at a time till you have the proper gap, and the headspace should be prefect.

Of course I didn't think of this until I got home and saw my feeler gauges, but no biggie, I can always use a set of headspace gauges to tackle some other proejcts!

I'll let you know when she is all back together and post some pics, and of course are welcome to pop off some rounds down at Buffalo with me.

[ETA]  By the way, I cant' seem to find the barrel pin from the Yugo AK kit.  I was pretty sure I put it in the cardboard box with all the Yugo AK parts, but it might have fallen out.  If you could just doa  quick check to make sure I didn't do something boneheaded like put it down on yoru workbench that would be great.

If I can't find it I'll probably just see if someone has a spare pin, no big deal if it has gone missing.

Dawg,

I saw you put that pin in the box... but I'll look around today.

It seems to me that you should have a set of headspace gauges as you take this building hobby seriously. I have a set for the AR and it was worth the small investment. I'll eventually get a set for the AK. At the very least a field gauge.

I looked around last night on the webnet for an RPK kit and I did not see much!

Yeah, I remember distincly putting the pin in the box.  I'll do another search in the trunk of the car and around the apartment, maybe I'll get lucky and it will turn up.

If I see a milled RPK kit fora  decent price I'll let you know!
