| I heard on BBM today that Daley will once AGAIN be pushing his state dealer licensing, one handun per month and assault weapon confiscation crap once again. Not that any of us are shocked but since Daley can't seem to find anythinh better to do with his time, pwrhaps we should be vigilant. |

Link to Article Mayor Richard Daley and other elected officials renewed their call for stricter gun laws Wednesday, saying Democratic control of the General Assembly could lead to passage of legislation that has foundered in the past. One measure would ban assault weapons, while another would limit handgun purchases to one a month and a third would require licensing for handgun dealers. Daley is calling the measures "commonsense" gun legislation. He said firearms were used in 80 percent of the homicides committed in Chicago last year. Chicago police confiscated 12,235 guns in 2006, authorities said. "Every time we seize an illegal gun, we reduce the probability that someone will be killed, injured or unfortunately robbed at gunpoint," Daley said. State Rep. Edward Acevedo pledged his continued support for the assault weapons ban, which would include .50-caliber rifles. "These weapons are made for war. These weapons do not belong on the street," the Chicago Democrat said. "These weapons were made for mass destruction." State Sen. John Cullerton, D-Chicago, said the recent Democratic takeover of the General Assembly will mean change. "There's been a change in attitudes down in Springfield, which is very positive," Cullerton said. "The NRA in the past has kind of owned the place. Now there's a crack in their armor." Richard Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association, said the state already has some of the toughest gun laws in the country and passing more laws will not deter criminals from obtaining firearms. "No one wants criminals to have firearms," Pearson said. "And when you ban them, you just make it profitable for them to obtain weapons." Pearson acknowledged, however, that Democratic control of both the state House and Senate could result in passage of some gun control measures. "The gun lobby is going to have to work a lot harder," he said. CCW for Illinois |
He obviously doesn't waste much time overseeing the people under him since every time a scandal breaks he [mickey mouse voice]"knows nothing about it'[/Mickey mouse voice]. And of course the liberal Chicago media asks him polite, but slightly embarassing questions for one day and then drops the stories, never to be heard again. It's amazing .

There wasn't an R majority before, was there? |

www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chicago/chi-0701040060jan04,1,3840091.story Daley aims to pass new gun laws By Gary Washburn Tribune staff reporter Published January 4, 2007 Buoyed by the General Assembly's passage of a gun-control measure amid a long string of rejections, Mayor Richard Daley on Wednesday unveiled the city's 2007 legislative agenda with a renewed emphasis on handgun violence. Daley called for passage of half a dozen bills, to be introduced by local state lawmakers, that would restrict sales and the types and numbers of weapons that Illinoisans could buy. Noting that guns were involved in more than 80 percent of the 466 murders in Chicago in 2006, Daley said the way to reduce the murder rate "is to continue to get guns off our streets and out of our homes. "The best way to do it is to pass common-sense legislation that will keep guns out of the hands of people who want to commit crimes with them." Todd Vandermyde, a lobbyist for the National Rifle Association, scoffed at the mayor's plans. "I think it's typical of Daley's rhetoric," he said. "If it was up to him, nobody would own a gun." Daley supports measures that would ban assault weapons and .50 caliber weapons, limit handgun purchases to one a month and require state police licensing of handgun dealers. The legislature has rejected those measures in the past. A new measure would require all gun sales only by licensed dealers so that every purchaser would undergo a mandatory background check. Currently, purchasers who buy from neighbors, friends and other private parties do not undergo such checks. Daley also supports a measure that would tighten an existing statute mandating trigger locks or other safe-keeping for guns and another proposal that would classify more gun crimes as ones that could lead to suspension or revocation of a driver's license. Aggravated discharge of a firearm while driving now can result in loss of a license. The new legislation would add such offenses as unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated discharge of a machine gun. Daley and other gun-control advocates won a victory with passage of a measure that requires background checks of people who buy weapons at gun shows. With Democrats strengthening their edge in the Senate, state Sen. John Cullerton (D-Chicago) said that gun-control advocates have a chance of having all of the proposals passed in the coming session. "If the NRA realizes they are in trouble and want to negotiate, which they never have in the past, we [could pass] the assault-weapons ban," said Cullerton, who appeared with Daley and other public officials at a news conference at police headquarters. "They always have said, `You inadvertently are banning skeet shooters.' We say, `Fine, sit down and tell us what is wrong with our bill because we do know that weapons that shoot down planes should not be sold.'" Vandermyde disagreed about prospects for passage. "I think there is going to be a lot of screaming and hollering," he said, but "I don't think they have the muscle to move this ... agenda through. "This just becomes a regulatory and bureaucratic snafu to throw more red tape in the path of somebody buying a gun." |
The hell they don't . Just more proof the NRA has all but given up on IL. I think Mr. Vandermyde needs a few emails to inform him how serious the gun grabbers are. Folks, they aren't playing around. I have a very bad feeling they are "going for the brass ring" on this one. They have the numbers to do just about whatever they want. While I hope nothing happens I have a horrible feeling this will be a sales/manufacturing/possession AW ban with no grandfather clause. |
I agree, I don't think that the NRA or the ISRA want to admit publicly that the November statewide elections were a disaster for IL gun owners, with at least a couple of teacher's union supported anti-gun candidates winning in the state senate and house. Things will be closer than ever this year, and I wish someone would take the time to do the math on what reps signed on to bad legislation last year, and how many new ones are likely to co-sponsor the old bills. |
Vandermyde is a good guy and if you ever spent anytime seeing the man in action you would know he hasn't given up anything. They will never stop trying to pass this bill and yes, one day some sort of gun ban COULD be passed. Will there be an AW ban in IL this year? No. Will there be a magazine ban? No. Will they get there way and have the ISP license dealers? Eventually, if not this year yes. Perhaps someday we will stop paying taxes to pay salaries to people who's job it is to harrass us. |
It is amazing to me how Daley can scream at and berate the media, he treats them like floormats. he is a bulley and until someone has the nutsack to yell back at him, he will continue to yell. I much to my disadvantage and at times to my certain advantage have a mouth the size of Texas. I would verbally run him into the sod. I'd love a chance to debate Daley publically. I was a Rockstar when I was younger, I love stirring up the crowd |
i just joined the isra last month i have faith in them but i wish there would be more info forth coming on how to beat this crap.... i am really getting sick and tired of this crap to no end.... i wish they would put this much energy into fighting crime/unemployment/drugs ect.ect.ect.. we really need to stand up and say enough is enough we arnt going to be pushed around any more. |

Makes me sick that this ass-clown has the ability to lead all the pinkos statewide towards his end goal. When are people outside of Chicago going to realize that duplicating Chicago politics outside of Chicago will only turn the rest of the state into a bigger shitbox. Is it possible for gun owners of Illinois to file a class action lawsuit against the state legislature for vioalting our 2A rights if this thing ever comes to pass? |
rockstar? now THAT i'd like to see!!! j/k, no-i couldn't agree more with you guys. see, in illinois (which i'm sure isn't the only place like this) the majority of gun owners are laid back and quiet because their duck gun isn't in jeopardy. they couldn't really give a shit about gun owners like us. i think in the back of their minds they're thinking "let the state ban these automatic machine guns so they'll leave mine alone" then they spit into a spittoon and holler "hey ma, get out there an slop dem hogs!!". they aren't concerned like us and it's bullshit, a lot of these gun owners think that the second amendment is for huntin'. they think that the sole purpose of it is to help them in a time like the Great Depression. whereas that's one good reason for gun ownership-to help the everyday citizen be more independent and save money, the real reason is for protection. not only from the criminal element, but a tyrannical government. now where is jake goin' with all this, i know all of this. basically the same bills have been crammed down our throats for a while now, every damn spring and some in the fall. well, i could see that it's kind of lulled some of our fellow "concerned" gun owners to sleep. and with the even greater majority of liberal fucks in our legislature-state and national-there couldn't be a more important time to get out and fight. you guys know what to do. make sure that you not only contact the proper elected officials, but contact your gun ownin' buddies. make sure they're awake. just my .02 jake

| Want me to tell you all the problem! A lot of you gun guys up north vote Rep or Lib. Now I live in southern IL and where I'm is gun and hunting friendly as hell but they all vote Dem. Because they don't want there goverment cheese taken away from them and made to go out and get a job. |
Unfortunately, our Democratic pro-gun friends in southern Illinois give the reins to Madigan/Jones. I haven't done the math yet. Much ado was made about the Democratic advances in the senate, but it has been much more friendly to us than Daley. Frankly, I think the senate is our best hope--HB 2414's last amendment missed by a single vote in the last house session's vote on it. If they have the votes now in the senate, we are in trouble. I'm hoping for the best, but frankly, I think now's a good time to get what you want. Odds are, SOMETHING'S going to get passed. Exactly what is anyone's business. |
I'm sure the answer is no, but I would love to read an educated statement on why this is not possible. |
I'm pretty much fed up with the political ignorance of Southern IL. What you said is gospel, they are minions of the Chicago Democratic Machine. Southern IL Brothers, don't take this as an insult but a gesture of friendship and truth, your pro-gun Southern IL Democrats are wolves in sheep's clothing. They bring you your "government cheese" via doing the bidding of the Madigan/Jones/Daley camp. You are cannon fodder to them. Start doing yourselves and all of us a favor, inform yourselves. You are not our gun rights saving grace. The lack of any type of substantial economic base in Southern IL tends to lead people to vote for Democrats. There is simply a huge financial gap between Northern and Southern IL. The simple truth is that Southern IL carries little no no political influence when it comes to the agenda of the Mayor, and the Mayor runs the state make no mistake. The Conservative Suburbs of Chicago and Chicago's collar counties i.e. Lake. McHenry, , Dupage, Kane, etc are what holds the line on gun bills. These are the real other sides of the coin in the Illinois political struggle, they are the ones to be watched. Downstate Legislators may vote no on gunbans and that is great. But wait until a vote is held open on the floor to do some arm twisting and some of that government cheese slowly starts to erode, the gun bill will become irrelevant to your Legislators Sir, he'll want to keep the funds coming home to keep his job. Truth is, more people in Soutern IL and Northen IL will choose eating over keeping their guns. In the end, a grandfather ammendment will be added and all the Southern IL Legislators WILL tow Daley's line and fal in like like all the king's men do. Your best chance to make a real difference in Southern IL is to stop voting Democrat because your Father and Grandfather did. You need to make the change and add Republican seats to the House. Gun bills are a sure bet to pass in the House if they make it past rules and committees and get to the floor for a vote. Southern Houser members vote on those bills too. I have grown dead tired of listening to the litanny of BS from you guys down South. You would go through quite a bit of adjustment if you moved here and had to adjust to the pace. IL is run by Chicago and Chicago's outer suburbs and X Burbs. This is wher the money comes from and this is whjere the muscle comes from. Make no mistake, until Southern IL awakens from the BS slumber party they live in that their Democrats are good Democrats, we will be on the teetering edge of California type gun bans. Last year it was Mark Beaubien from Lake County that came down the the decisive vote in the House to can the AW ban. All the Southern IL guys had already tubled. Lake County is well North of I-80, it is as far as you can get in IL without being in Wisconsin. Join us, don't bash us constantly. Learn the truth. |
Respectfully, Patriot, I will have to disagree with this one - at least to the extent that it is an uncontestable truth. Let's pull up 1185/2414 voting records and see where the "R"'s stand on these issues. I have never voted for a "D", but there are many who have kept the Daley wolves at bay. |
No Boubt about it. I personally witnessed Kirk Dillard vote yes to get SB1195 out of committee. Republicans screw us all thie time. However, as a whole, a strong united Republican Party as opposed to an overwhelming majority of Dems and a few useless Republicans like Dillard and Kirk will be more pro-gun eveytime. I have no issues with Southern IL. As a matter of fact, those who know me the best know I am partial to the Southern States and vacation there often. However, I am sick and tired of listening to 20 something Downstater's spewing regurgetated Democratic BS. I'm tired of hearing how they save the Illinois gun rights movement everytime and I am sick of hearing about how they financially support the rest of the state. Both of those notions are laughable BS. Like I siad, people in Southern IL vote the way their "Granddaddy" did and if an original political thought ever emitted from anyone in Southern IL, it may just spark off the next ice age. Even the Southern States have overwhelmingly gone Republican on a National and State level. Yet Southern IL, which get's pretty South, is still stuck on The New Deal. From now on, consider me the pin that pops the Southern IL BS balloon. If Southern IL were to become it's own state, it would starve. |
| I love Southern IL it is the best place to live if you do have to live in IL. I agree that these people vote the way Pa did. I work for the county and almost all the people from the Judge to the State Att are all Dem. I talked to a SA he told me he was really a Rep but he wanted to work in this county so he joined the Dem party. |
Can't argue with that one. |

I’d like to make a few comments on Southern Illinois. As a resident of Southern Illinois for most of my life, I now live in Central Illinois, I have my own theories on the problems. Trying not to get too long winded I’ll subject you to my own crazy theories. First, most people in SI know they don’t matter when it come to state politics, therefore they simply don’t care. Many of us understand that we only get the scraps. Hell, we rarely see top state office holders outside election years. Second, there are a couple of reasons why most people down there vote democrat and they are related. The only business that has ever thrived in Southern Illinois is coal mining. Currently, the industry is seeing a resurgence, but for the most part it’s been in the toilet since the late 80’s. The coal industry was big for 50+ years and this, in my opinion, is the root of the problem. For over 50 years jobs “at the mines” were plentiful and everyone knew it. Sons, grandsons, and nephews knew all they had to do was graduate from high school and there was a job waiting for them at a mine. This situation created a large number of people with no higher education and few marketable skills to fall back on when the mines closed. Which led to double digit unemployment through most of the 90’s. The overwhelming majority of the mines, when they were operational, were union mines and the majority of current and retired UMWA miners vote democrat. Also once you get south of Carbondale there is virtually no industry. Yes, there is the river boat casino(s) in Metropolis, but that is about the extant. The southern most counties are basically welfare states. A large portion of this part of the state is living off the government one way or another. They are either employed by (prison guards) or living off the state. Welfare fraud in the tri-state area (KY, IL, MO) is rampant, to the point people in Chicago might be impressed. I think it’s pretty obvious who these people are voting for. Then there is Carbondale itself home to the largest employer in Southern Illinois, SIUC. SIUC is full of nut ball liberal professors and the surrounding area is home to several “hippies” that settled here in the 60’s. Unlike today, you couldn’t flunk out of SIU in the 60’s during the height of the Viet Nam war. Those circumstances made Carbondale and the surrounding area very attractive to war protestors and the “free love” crowd. A significant number of them never left and are causing problems to this day. Add to the mix a couple of the most revered Democrats in Illinois politics are from the area. Glen Poshard and Paul Simon both were/are from Southern Illinois. Poshard is now the President of SIUC. Simon passed in 2003, however, his daughter Sheila is running for mayor of Carbondale. I believe we will hear more from her in the future. Democrat gun owners from Southern Illinois can’t (or don’t want to) believe their “good ole boys” will stab them in the back. Case in point, Mr. Poshard was one of the dems that flopped and voted for the Fed AWB in 1994 in its third and final try. I’m sure there was pressure put on him (he voted against it the first two times), but that isn’t an excuse, in my opinion. The current crop of state politicians are some of the worst I’ve seen. All the big players have direct ties to Blogo. The ONLY good thing I can say about them is they are pro-gun, for now. Don’t think they won’t throw us under the bus at the first opportunity to bring home some pork. A ban on EBR’s won’t affect the millions generated in the area during deer and goose season. In our defense I can’t remember one single event hosted by either the NRA or the ISRA in Southern Illinois. I’m not saying it didn’t happen, but I don’t remember hearing of anything. It would be nice if someone with some pull were to get a rifle rage constructed at the “World Shooting Complex”. I know that is easier said than done, but it’s worth a try. I guess I was still a little long winded. I think this might give you a better understand of what’s going on “down south”. But, that is just my opinion and I could be wrong. |
| does anyone think that there is anyway by contacting the nra or isra and any other gunrights advocates that we could get a huge protest going. When i say huge i mean like the libs do, bus people in so you can get like 50k down to grant park or something. I think protesting and showing are strength is the only way to make the politicians understand that we mean buisness. If we just keep talking about it things will never change and will only get worse. |

Fuck GrantPark, Walk up and down the streets of downtown shitcowgo right at the height of rush hour morning and afternoon traffic, just like the illeagals did. Then stand outside of Daleys office with signs " Hey Dick what part of the Constitution are you against, all of it, or just what meets your approval." " Hows the corruption investigation going?" " I've got a truck for hire" " Have you and the Crookcounty Pres finished hiring all of your buddys wives?" One hell of an Orgy going on in local and State Governments. "Ill hire who I want WTF can they do about it fire me?" |

...for those last 4 posters or so in this thread. Ask, and you will find. |
. Saw the news conference and was a bit pissed. They stated "Need to get assualt weapons out of the hands of criminals". What does that make me?
