I'm looking to buy a gun safe but don't know too much about them.  Is there anything I should be looking for or staying away from?  All I know is I want a fire-rated safe.

I look at this one today and like it but it was also the first one I really looked at:
www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2511914&cp=2292630&pg=3&parentPage=family&searchId=17801873471

And where do you put handguns in a safe if it doesn't have the side shelves like the one above has?

If you are buying a Sentry try Farm and Fleet. They sell Sentry also and might be cheaper. I will tell you this. I shopped long and hard before I purchased on last year. Every dealer told me to get an electronic lock as opposed to the tumbler style. They are much harder to break into. I ended up buying one from the Utah Safe Outlet. I purchased a Cannon because there warranty was the best in the business. I got it shipped to my door from Bountiful, Utah cheaper then I could get it in Plainfield and Joliet. Tells you what kind of prices they are charging doesn't it? I couldn't be happier with it. Let me know if you have anymore questions. There website is Utah Safe Outlet
