So I visited this establishment today for the first time. It's a little dark and cramped, but overall, seemed like a friendly store. I am planning on visiting their range regularly now, and I was wondering what y'all think of it. I also saw mention of a centerfire rifle range, is that true? Anyone else shoot there? |
Did you notice that none of the guns have prices on the front of the price tag? There is a reason for that and it is not because they ran out of space. On the other hand, the range is just about the only game in town to shoot rifles indoors that is close to Chicago, and better maintained than most indoor ranges I have been to. |
| I like Gunworld. I go there in the Winter when I need a rifle fix. Nice guys. You can shoot rifles with non-magnetic ammo there. I have shot .308 back there. The no prices on the guns thing is new, they were always priced before and didn't seem to be too unreasonable. |
|
I was just shooting my rifles there Friday night. Their range membership is for unlimted shooting for the year and I believe you can bring a guest. Their guns are overpriced and it's one of the few shops that I have never bought a gun from. I really hate the fact that they don't show the prices on their guns. Just seems stupid to me. I can't believe they sell many guns in there. |
| I used to shoot there all the time. Nice place as far as indoor ranges go. Their old gunsmith, Jerry" is not someone I would like working on my guns. More of a parts fitter in my opinion. He was at war with the EPA when they were trying to shut the range down due to lead contamination. Rumor has it he got indicted for a weapons related offense. |

We used to shoot there all the time, many years ago. Back then we called it "Gun Third World". They had tons of counter help and each guy thought he was hot stuff because he was packing. The upside down price tag thing is very annoying! I shot there two weeks ago and I asked for the price on a Sig 226R in 9mm, $975! That's why they are upside down. Needless to say I bought it somewhere else. It is nice to shoot rifles there and $20 isn't bad. I've started going there again since shooting there with Drobs a few months ago. |
| Hey guys, I found some good deals on a few old timers at Gun World .I picked up a NO 5 Lee Enfield carbine a few years ago I think it was around 300. I still go in there once in a while but the prices are a little high. I think most gun shops are pretty generic now , the same type of people behind the counter . Most of the old timers are retired now and the new owners see it just as a busness. Their was a shop in Addison I could spend my whole lunch hour bs ing. Those days are gone i guess. The problem with Gun World was the BATF found a unregistersd full auto reciever . very bad. Mike |
That is just one of many issues they have had from what I have heard. |
|
I too have frequented the Gun World establishment, and fyi they allowed non-magnetic .30-06 too. (Tim, the Lake City was non-magnetic...not sure about the HXP). Generally, overall an ok place and the only indoor rifle range I've come across. However, purchasing from them is not on my to do list, either. Two things to mention: (1) Their policy on rental guns is simply ridiculous. You have to have another person with you or you can't rent. The stated rationale is that if you come in alone and want to rent (even with a FOID), you might want to shoot yourself, so for insurance reasons they don't rent to people who come alone. Nevermind too if you come with your own gun and want to rent something else, that is still against their policy. (2) They won't be there forever given that they are within the footprint of the O'Hare expansion. |

I am not a fan, and will never give those guys another dime of my money. If you guys want to shoot during the winter, you are welcome to come up with me to 7mile. Its a drive, but its outdoor, and open all year round, and you don't have to deal with the douche bags that work there. Scott |

I went there today. Rude people and dirty store, but a decent range. My new Kimber sure is fun to shoot, and I'm pretty good with it, strangely enough. Didn't check out the rifle range, but if you can't shoot Wolf there I won't bother paying $18. I noticed the no prices on guns or ammo, but that didn't matter to me, I had my own ammo and I only buy guns online, I have only bought one gun in a gun store and it was an impulse purchase and *slightly* overpriced. One guy asked the price for a box of .380 caliber CCI Blazer, $12. I almost hit the floor. Either way I paid my 12 bucks to get on the range and put 200 rounds of .45 downrange. Met some cool people on the range, and it's close enough to my house that I can go before I go to work in the afternoon, which is cool with me because before when I lived with my mom, I could ONLY shoot on my day off because I have to take my gun home before I can come to work (federal property). Although I'm not much of a city-folk, if y'all ever want to shoot sometime, let me know, I'll stop by. $175 a year for a pass isn't bad, $250 a year for a rifle pass. I'd have to go every week or at least twice a month to make it worth it....and I'd sure have to have a rimfire pistol to not go broke on ammo bills! Overall, it's the dirtiest, nastiest store I've ever seen that sells guns, but only the 2nd dirtiest range. Midwest Sports has the world's dirtiest, nastiest indoor range, I do believe. |

"Didn't check out the rifle range, but if you can't shoot Wolf there I won't bother paying $18." I've shot hundreds of rounds of Wolf there, no problem (all non-magnetic). I took some Silver Bear there by mistake once (realized it when I saw the sparks fly off the backstop) but they were cool. A couple of guys next to me shot a bunch of non-lead but I don't think anyone noticed. If you go during the day it's never crowded. M590man

It is not that you can't shoot wolf there (at least for your AR) but it has to be that new wolf, which of course they happen to sell down stairs. 7.62 Russian fans can shoot Cheetah there. Not nearly as cheap as wolf but still alot cheaper than the Winchester value pack at walmart. I really have no problem with the range there and the guy who owns the bus in the parking lot seemed cool when I talked with him. Almost all of the bad stuff I have heard about that place other than the prices was in regards to the guy who I once heard described as "looking like the troll under the bridge in that fairytale." |
I have only been there once. I was over 18, but under 21 at the time. They wouldn't let me and my best friend shoot--even though we had his dad with us. We left and never went back. I am glad I didn't miss anything. |

There for a while Rinks was sort of fouled up on who could and couldn't supervise a minor. In their defense, there had been some mixed messages from the ISP about who could 'supervise' a minor. They have it sorted out, now. The range may not be too clean to look at, but the airflow (which is what counds) is better than many I've seen. Larry |
They still suck. Come up to WI with me, where the airflow is natural (gotta love the outdoors), and there are no asshats telling you what to do. Best part is, it doesnt cost ya 18 bucks to get in. Wear warm clothing, and use your barrels for hand warmers, and you're good to go. |
While I would love to go some time, I think it's a matter of a close place to shoot during the winter. I for one am limited in my travel during winter do to weather, and being on call 24/7. So Rink's or Megasports may be expensive, but allow me to shoot, and also pack up and be to work in 10 minutes. |
|
There is nothing wrong with Rinks other than the range "feels" dirty. They need to paint the place and upgrade the lighting. They also need to keep it warmer when the temp gets below 30. I have had to cut short sessions due to frozen fingers. OK I guess there a few things wrong with Rinks. There are good things about Rinks also. The airflow is good enough that it keeps it clear in the range unless all the stalls are full. Then it gets slightly hazy, 90% of the time this is not the case. Very cost effective, 9 bucks with a free pass after your card gets stamped 10 times. Nice folks, spent a lot of time BSing with the employees about guns and stuff when they were slow. Overall I give them a thumbs up, that is saying something considering how poorly most gun shops I have been to understand customer service. |
19 years old isn't a minor. A 19 year old can even OWN a pistol, so long as they buy it from a private individual, and not from a dealer on a 4473. It was rinks policy, not law. Cody, I have a range pass for megasports. Still 3 uses left on it out of 10, pretty sad that I haven't made it out to shoot 10 times in 14 months, huh? |
|
Talk about confusion in policies. After 9/11 my sister and bro inlaw wanted to go shooting. They were Florida residents and they both have concealed carry. I called around to see where we could shoot and I couldn't get a straight answer from anyone except Megasports. Nobody in these stores seem to know what the law is and they enforce stuff just to cover their ass. Niether Rinks or Midwest thought I could bring them to shoot. They were wrong. Things have loosened up a bit again. Tim, my buddy and I shoot and Megasports a couple times a month. I'll shoot you a message and let you know when we are going if you would like to meet up with us. |

Sure. I'm living in Mount Prospect now, but I'd be more than willing to stop by and you guys show me up. :) If anyone's in the area and wants to shoot at Gun World, let me know, and I'll come by. The cool thing about gun world is that it's so close to my apartment I can take my guns home and then go to work afterwards. Of course then there will be a federal investigation on why I punched my co-workers in the jaw several hours after going to the shooting range, I'm sure. :) |
