Does anyone have any experience with this place? They're in McHenry on 120. I didn't see much info in the range thread. I guess they have IDPA shoots there from time to time. Can you get a membership to this place, or is it just a public range? |
| I stop by there from time to time, but have not purchased any weapons from them. The range is open to the public and the guys behind the counter are real nice. I think the range has about six stalls, but the ventalation in my opinion is a bit lacking. The last time I was there the guy shooting next to me picked up all his brass, gathered together all his crap, and left with a big smile on his face. Only problem was he left his 1911 and several mags in the stall. He I let the guys there know. Never heard if he came back for it. |

Just shoot there this afternoon. Nice friendly range without the fancy stuff. Ventilation is definitely lacking. Prices for range time are ok. Prices on stuff is little too much. Bill owns the places and is helpful. Real cool thing is he allows RAPID FIRE. Some ranges don't, he does. I can't complain because it's 6 minutes away. |

Otherwise known as the "Smoke and Choke". Prices on everything are HIGH! VERY HIGH! There is a gun store 15 min or so down 120, D&J Guns I think, that beat every price in McHenry by $25 to $100. My brother-in-law saved $75 on a Walther P99, I saved $35 on a Mossberg 590. Range is old and beat to shit. My dad used to shoot there when he was a McHenry cop back in the 70's. Took him back there a few weeks ago, and he said the range was exactly like he remembered it, and the ventalation still sucked. OK to shoot at, but buy somewhere else and save some cash. He has strange hours, not open on Monday at all, and Thursday nights are closed to the public for IDPA I think. Av. Oh, and don't buy the relaoded ammo. It's expensive, dirty, and hangfires. At least the batch I bought did. Click...BANG! Click....BANG! |

IDPA and IPSC groupg both shoot there on certain Thursdays. IDPA all shoots there sometimes on Saturdays after hours. Overall prices are high but DJ is also high. I can say this as I buy from both places. Usually support the local guy unless they are too high. I'll pay a little more and drive just a few minutes. |
