As I get older I learn more and more that there is value in everything in life. Just last summer I was in a customers backyard and she is notoriously cheap and she had 2 guys on her re-roofing her house. Neither of them could speak a word of English and both of them had industrial torches blowing the fires of hell all over the place up there (I've seen the same thing in a Three Stooges episode once). I knocked on her door and asked her if either one of them had a bucket of water, fire extinguisher or even a phone to dial 911 when they eventually set her whole house on fire, she looked at me wide eyed and said she didn't know. I asked her where she found Moe and Curly and she said Craigslist. She found the absolute cheapest bozos she could find and put him up on her roof with a flamethrower...genius! There might be value in this case to hire a licensed contractor with good solid references to do this job and pay a premium.

If any of you watch Gold Rush, Tony Beets will say something in every season...."That's what you get".

In my job, I service and repair swimming pools, I constantly have the same few customers who don't get the value of having me do the job over some guy on CL who charges $55 a month for the exact same job I charge $120-$150 for. I say the same thing everytime. I tell them to give me the word and I'm gone. If they REALLY want to deal with the guy who is a registered sex offender, does drugs (the really good ones will even do drugs and drink alcohol in their backyard), cases the house so he can have his drug addict friends to come by at night to steal their stuff to go ahead...I have plenty of customers who see the value in having me do their pool. Oh and btw he gets up around 11 am and might not make it this week...had a huge party last weekend and he's still recovering....

So let me get to the issue here. What does this forum get almost on a weekly basis? Questions from some guy about CCW....yep he took the free class and got every bit of what he paid for...he walked out uninformed and has no idea of the laws regarding it.

Can I have a round in the chamber?
Can I carry in an establishment that has gaming?
Can I drink and CCW?
When in NLV and have my gun am I gonna be raped by the police????

There might be value in taking a class that answers all these questions to save you the embarrassment of asking online and getting another guy who took the free class to give you the answers he thinks is right. I just got done doing my third renewal with Joe (Ishoot2live) and realized this last night. It wasn't free but nothing worthwhile is free. How about this, is there value in taking a private class and it not being free? My first class 20 years ago was at American Shooters, I still remember the dread of sitting in that class as some 100yo guy was telling us how when he guarded a bank and Billy the Kid came in a held it up how he pulled out his black powder revolver and proceeded to tell us every detail from the worlds slowest shootout. I can't take it. I really can't. I'm the guy who sat in class and when the bell rang and prayed no other student had a stupid question...but alas yes one of them did...everyday...we sat after the bell for 5 minutes because he couldn't find it out on his own or ask the teacher after class...he wanted us all to wait.

So my point is is there value in taking a private class? Well I can call or now with modern technology text Joe and get an answer to any CCW question I might be unsure of and actually get an answer. Can you guys who took the free class do that? Go ahead...ask the teacher to give you their personal cell number so you can call or text any questions you might have in the next 5 years....I'll save you the embarrassment here is their answer... I guess that's a no so you can always ask on the board and get a bunch of people who you have no idea if they have any idea what they are talking about.

Value

Call Joe. If you don't remember what Tony says "That's what you get".

Nothing wrong with good training, but being forced by the .gov to take a ccw class offends me.

TL;DR

Just kidding, I read it.  I've been in one form of training role or another for the better part of 30 years now.  Not firearms related training, but training none the less.  I can vouch for what you said 100%, people just don't seem to grasp the value of good training.  The majority of my training background has been in safety.  It absolutely amazes me how often people bitch about being forced to attend training yet, when somebody screws up and gets hurt the very first thing we hear is, "We weren't properly trained."  Stupid bastards!

Only because I know you'll want to get multiple bids I'm going to throw in an endorsement for California Pools. Just had them install mine and am 100% pleased.  Marv and Ben were fantastic to work with and that's exactly what they did, they worked WITH us.  Had other bids from folks who really didn't seem to care what we wanted.  Felt they knew about our wishes more than us.  And also, they were great about giving us the most value for our $$$.  Would absolutely hire them again.

Anyone that someone would reccomend in the north? I need to take the class and have been procrastinating only becuase i can carry at work becuase I am the owner. And if I am wrong in the assumption that I can carry at my place of business without a ccw please tell me, I'm not a lawyer nor do I play one in real life.

Thanks

If it's a private business you should be fine to ccw just as you can in your house but I am not a lawyer.

As for professional instruction in the north Sierra Firearms Academy are the best I have dealt with. Dave and Mike are good people and just like wolfpack was saying you are paying for actual knowledge rather than someone meeting the minimum requirements to be legal.

I'll second Sierra Firearms, they did my initial training back in 2002 and were excellent. I've been helping out with a buddy of mine http://www.aplusfirearms.com/ on his classes, I play RSO for him and bring out steel to screw around with after the qualification.

And Wolfpack, I feel ya. If I hear one more "I don't need no stttinking AR500, I've got a bin of scrap!" while selling targets a show, I may have to start predigging more holes in the desert.
