Hey guys,

Any advice on where to have the best luck finding coyote to hunt? I have been all over the Great Basin and Hwy 93 with no luck. I'm open for any advice and wouldn't mind to find a hunting group to go out with.

Thanks!

Haha yea, I could understand why. I was honestly thinking about heading up past Indian springs/Creech AFB this weekend. Apparently thats a decent spot.

Then you're doing something wrong. Lots of coyotes up near Great Basin National park and the surrounding area. Doesn't mean they will be easy pickings. Persistence and time will pay off sooner or later.

Do you have an electronic call? Using a call out side alfalfa fields can be productive early in the AM and before dark.

Calling and patience have paid off for me, heck even in the Cold Creek area, but that is extra hard hunting.

Best advice is get off the roads.  I mean way the hell off the road.  Everyone wants to pull off a half mile from the highway and start calling.  I go at least 5 miles down a dirt track, preferable further.  Then hike in another mile.  Most guys hunting coyotes aren't really willing to put the work in to get them.  They want to pull off the 93 and calls the same areas every other guy has been calling for years.  I can assure you there are coyotes all over that are and the Great Basin highway, but you have to get deep offroad .

Or park on the side of the hwy, walk a couple hundred yards and call. Coyotes scavenge highways all the time and often aren't very far away. I've done it on several occasions, several of which were filmed for a DVD Coyote Rage.

Some people like to put Coyotes in a mythical status and all they are is a wild dog.

All you have to do is find the sound that they will respond to. If 5000 people stop at the same spot and use a Jack Rabbit sound try a Cottontail sound or a mouse squeaker. Hell try a Cat sound I have heard some people on the edges of the city's have great luck with that.

I have spooked Coyotes off the road while driving and stopped and setup on a hill and within five minutes called them in.

I will ride my quad as close to my stand as possible and still be able to hide it. I did this several times and walked maybe a hundred feet from my quad over a small rise setup my call and within thirty seconds of calling have one standing thirty yards in front of my call. I bet this happened within four minutes of getting off my quad.

I called a Coyote in while some Chukar hunters were a thousand yards away talking and hollering at their dog.

One of the problems is the people that maybe put onet in a 12x12 target out of twenty shots at thirty yards think they are great shots, so then they start shooting at Coyotes two hundred yards and miss and then wonder why they can't call them in anymore.

Another problem in todays world is that someone is off every day of the week and out in the sticks and taking a pots shot at Coyotes.

Hope this helps a little.

Good Luck.

If you can't find them off 93, your doing it wrong.

Nice variety there...all it needs is a bobcat and a badger.
