Hi guys.  It's time. 16" barrel, .223/5.56.  Budget <1k.  What does HTF have to say about this?

Get yourself a take-down in .308.  This will give you maximum versatility (you can shoot 300 BLK,  6.8, .223, .22 and any other calibers that are smaller than .308).

Rifle caliber suppressors are very heavy so expect your well-balanced rifle to become very front-heavy.

If you decide to get into the dedicated subsonic stuff, get a takedown 9mm suppressor like the Liberty Mystic that will allow multiple calibers.

IM me if you want to get together and see what I am talking about.

Um,.. Suppressor help, hmm. Ok you want to spend less than a thousand dollars and you are going to run it on a 16 inch AR15,right?
If I had to do it over again my first suppressor for a 5.56 AR15 would probably be a take-down 7.62 NATO can. You would have the ability to use it on several host guns in different caliber's.
If you want a dedicated 5.56 can you could get a Gemtech HALO for under a thousand WITH the transfer tax. I have the 2009 HALO and run it on two SBR's in 10.5 and 11.5 barrels.
You might want to hook up with someone who has a 5.56 can and take it to the range. 5.56 is a rifle caliber round and the suppressor will not negate the supersonic crack of the round being fired downrange. You may decide that a suppressor in 5.56 is too loud.Suppressed 5.56 guns will have less muzzle blast but will run dirty and gas will fly out the ejection port and hit you in the face/eyes.I am left handed and have to wear really good eye protection with sidesheilds to keep my eyes from tearing up with long strings of fire.
After a while I got a 9mm AR15 SBR and bought a Gemtech MK9K. I can run 147 grain subsonicand the only sound is  the action and the bullet hitting the target. This is my favorite suppressor and it is easily dis assembled for cleaning. This is the rig I shoot most of the time.
The best advice is find somone who has a few suppressors and go to the range with them and draw your own conclusions. YMMV,Ronnie.

I'm in the market as well, if we can get someone to take us out for a demo, I might end up on pulling the trigger sooner than I thought.

A better option may be to set up a suppressor shoot at the CCSP or other range with a group of suppressor owners with a varied selection of suppressors for the first time suppressor shooters/buyers. I have a M4-96D upgraded with a G5 mount,2009 HALO,and a MK9K that I could bring with a registered AR15 SBR and host uppers. Maybe someone from the HTF could  set up something in the near future. I would happily show up for an event as described. YMMV,Ronnie.

Damn, appreciate the offer Ronzo.  Jojo and I are both Northies, but it might be worth a trip south to make it happen if we can't pull it together up here.

Sounds good, The main reason I got into suppressors was that I am losing my hearing, due to thirty yaers in construction. I registered on Silencertalk.com and wore out the search function. That was five years ago and I have learned so much from Silencertalk and Silencer research.com. Along the way I got to speak with many class three enthusiasts here in Vegas. Suppressors are a lot of fun to shoot and I have yet to run out of things to study about them.
From Maxim,Mitch Werbell,Gordon Ingram,Don Walsh,Mickey Finn,Doc Dater,C. Reed Knight Jr. to the modern designers of today. You can learn so much of military history and the men who designed the suppressors for soldiers whose lives depended on them to survive the missions they were sent to perform. The Welrod was designed to be put in the hands of civilian resistance fighters during WWII. YMMV,Ronnie.

I have a 5.56 and .308 suppressor.  I bought the .308 so that I can have versatility between different calibers but it will make the rifle longer.  The .308 can is about 8" long.  I purchased the Gemtech Quicksand and it works great on semiauto rifles.  If you want to throw it on a bolt gun, make sure to get a threaded one instead of a quick detach.

I've considered buying a .308 can (Northie as well) BECAUSE of the versatility that comes with a 308 however the only 308 gun I owned I sold a few years ago and never shot it.

I'm looking at a 22 can pretty hard and I've decided I want the Stainless Steel Sparrow.  Maybe we need a 3-4 can order in town.  On a different board a guy said he bought 3 cans (223, 22, 45) from SilencerCo and the dealer cut him a deal since it was 3 at once.

I am looking to pick up a couple more demo cans in the near future for our FFL/SOT business here in Reno.

If anyone wants to piggyback on our order, feel free to shoot me an IM.

I have a YHM 7.62 Stainless Phantom.  The only down side I've found is the weight, but for under 1000 (aside from the stamp), you can get the titanium version of the same can, for substantially less weight.

I a Southie too.

I would help by bringing out my "Tax Stamp Stuff",  just need a date and I will show up.

I have 4 Suppressors at this time .  2  AAC 762 SN 6 for  both 5.56/ 7.62  ARs .  I have SBRs and NON Stamp length  in both Calibers .  One .22 AAC Prodigy w/ Gen 3 core and a take down TiRant 45 used on multiple pistols and a 9mm SBR and 9mm  non SBR  rifles.

If a demo shoot can't be worked out. Any south members are looking to purchase  these cans and would like to try them first, I would be willing to meet up.

I am in the Henderson area.

I have a few suppressors in different calibers and would love to hit the range with like minded individuals.  Henderson area.  I always enjoy shooting the breeze with other suppressor owners.  Sharing the love of suppressors with those interested in becoming owners is also a good time waiting to happen.

I'm with John. I only have one can. An SAS can in 5.56 with several hosts to try it out on.

I was really impressed by the Thunderbeast on a 308 i saw/heard at the range. Impressive sound reduction.

Southie here.

What about saying fuck suppressing the rifle and go with a .45 can?

ETA FML Now I say fuck the .45 and get a 9mm... so that means a Glock 19, with a new trigger (Haley Skimmer since Haley can make babies with me in my colon)

I CAN'T DECIDE

And when that happens, I open my wallet, and get both.  And that's a problem.  I do that all the time.

Works pretty darn good. You're still going to get the sonic crack. A 22lr can would probably work just as well and be shorter and lighter to boot. I just figured I'd use what I already had.
