Hello Friends of AR,
I'm moved here from North Dakota and I can't seem to find any good places to coyote hunt here. I would like to hunt around the Fallon, Fernley, or Reno area or other surrounding areas. Does anyone want to shed some light on some locations that i can hunt at. Thanks again, |
|
Well im fairly new here and i don't got my license to collect and sell fur. I'm still a little new on the rules I can hunt coyotes with out a license but if i want to sell the fur i need a furbearers license but can I collect the fur for myself?? I want to try to learn how to tan hides myself... I would for sure like a seasoned coyote hunter down here showing me the ropes. Coyotes down here are smarter than they are up in North Dakota so i'm finding it real hard tocall them in. I use regular coyote calls like jack rabbit in distress the kiyi and various others but i can't seem to find a decent place to start blastin coyotes.
*Edit* Yeah my Grandpa always said (before animal cruelty things came to light) He used to have like 30 farm cats that bred like wild fire and he would just duct tape 2 cats tails together and let them get angry with each other and the coyotes would come bum rushing in |
|
OP,
Just get a Trapper's License if you want to sell the hides. NDOW License Fees Hope this helps. BTW: Welcome to Nevada! |

I live out in Palomino Valley, and we hear and 'yotes regularly, and see them occasionally. They're pretty gun shy out here, on account of half the population taking pot shots at them. I've got a hankering to do some 'yote hunting out towards the north end of the valley, north of Pyramid Hwy after we get a good snow fall. |
Well if you guys feel like having a tag along partner with a stupid accurate AR 5.56 im always game. shoot me a message!

IF you don't mind another dirt chemist I'd like to learn how to do this. All I have is my AR I haven't shot yet with either an ACOG or an EOTech if that's good enough. Otherwise I could use a 223 bolt action. |
| Yeah i love coyote hunting. I just can't seem to know where to go down here. Im finding my self wondering around the middle of the desert trying to find a small water source where coyotes would be near. I have no idea where i can hunt in the mountains and where i can't hunt. What is legal and what isn't legal. |

The terrain will decide your optic really. |

I may bring out the new Tikka T3 in 300 win mag just for the long range shit and giggles.Thinking late Nov - Dec, weekends are pretty book with wood cutting until then. |

Heck if neither of us has a clue I might even know a third dude LOL! AS OF NOW I'm working Saturdays. December would be good time. Knowing Reno it won't snow until January. |

crapshoot, What kind of Shotgun ammo do you use, Bro? TIA I'm shooting a benelli m1s90 turkey with steady grip. I use 3" #4 BUCK and a Carlson's dead coyote choke. Heavy shot T is good stuff but expensive. Copper coated BB is good too. Make sure to pattern your gun with different ammo and chokes till you find something that works for you and your gun. |

Since I moved away from Fernley I will give up one of my spots. Go up behind the mine and hunt that area between Fernley and Silver Springs.
It can be hot and cold. But becareful the Hills truly have Eyes out there. A few years ago I made 10 calls and shot 7 Coyotes and missed one. Another spot and it is a rough bitch of a road. Go out behind the new truck stop and follow the High Voltage power lines north. Once you get over the top it flattens out into a high valley. |

Im still new to the area so im not sure where the mine is but it just means i gotta road trip and find these places. Also im unsure on what "New truck stop" there is. but it isn't going to be hard to find these power lines :) thanks so much |

any good places to go in so nv for yotes? Honestly, they are where you find them. Remember, water is king in the desert. Hunt within 5-10 miles of water(spings, houses, lakes, Ponds, golf courses, etc) and you will probably find coyotes. I honestly can't say one place is better than the next. The more water you have, the more food you will have, the more predators you will have. |

I had to get the monkey off my back. I called 5 stands. Called coyotes on stand 2 and 4. Killed 1 and fired warning shots at the other. Last years model, low mileage. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v56/Lance30/IMG_20121103_075314_184_zps838361c2.jpg That your .221 Furball? |

That is a model 788 in 22-250 that I traded for. If I keep it, it will lose a few inches off its nose and be threaded as well. |

I was thinking north end of Palomino Valley somewhere. Either west side of the Dogskins, or out around Tule Mountain. I know they're out and about, I saw one on my drive in on Whiskey Springs this morning. Thinking Sunday morning at this point, maybe meet out towards the end of the pavement on Winnemucca Ranch at dawn? |

Happy to have whomever. I have no idea what I'm doing, so I have no expectations of anything other than a fun morning of fucking around. PM for contact info if you thing you can make it. Open to suggestions on where to go, I just picked this area because it is close to home for me. |

Ill have to get my gun sighted in and figure out the acog. I think it would be more fun with my AR than my savage. That would be cheating. |

I can help with the ACOG - PROTIP after each adjustment smack it with a loaded mag, your palm or something solid. Not hard, but enough to ensure the crystal is set in place. If you don't do that sometimes when you adjust after the first shot the crystal resets into the right position throwing your aim off. |

I just tried around Winnemucca Ranch Rd today. Went up into Dry Valley past Moon Rocks, then headed back toward Antelope Valley and took the junction over the hill and back down to Prairie and back to Winnemucca Ranch. Called six or seven stands, didn't see a single one. Heard them talking and saw some fresh tracks on the way to the first stop, but never got one to come in. Bummer. Was thinking about trying some of the hills behind Hidden Valley this week or next weekend. I hear them all the time out there, but not sure if it'll yield anything!

Yeah, I live in Hidden Valley and there is definitely quite a bit of Coyote activity in the foothills to the east. In the summer months the Coyotes and the local dogs occasionally get into 'screaming matches' at night. Up there are my favorite shooting spots as well. Never seen a Coyote however. But I haven't looked for them either. |

My problem was I didn't realize shooting high at 100 yards when sighted in at 50. I thought it was he same for some reason. |
