What is a high-dollar water system?

I live in Fernley, and I have a water softener and  a RO system for drinking water.

Well water in the Great Basin sucks-hard hard hard water.

The lady I know who has lived there forever won't drink it.

My dog won't drink it.

I'd suggest a AWESOME water filter.  Or have the water tested prior to buying.

Well water or city water? If it's city, it's tested a bazillion ways. If it's well, and you're concerned, call Alpha Analytical (775 351 2237) and get sample containers from them. I'd recommend running it for total metals, nitrates, pH, and maybe for hardness.

I live in fallon, moved here a few months ago. I don't drink the water and I don't give it to my dogs either. What I heard is the military base had a huge fuel spill some time ago and it got in the water table. My friend who is a geologist did some well testing in fallon a couple years ago and pulled up what he said was "more oil than water" I don't know the details of his check but that's what he told me. My co workers all do not drink it they say also.

I'm on Fallon city water and I've had worse.  I'll drink it.  It is thoroughly tested, but it is still pretty hard.  I've been told by a coworker who's been here for a bit that there are some locations where the wells hit pretty brackish water and even go dry from time to time.  I know of other people that have a well on their property that is fine, but when they sink another one, they end up with non-clear water.  Some wells have water that is pretty high in sulfur too.

Who knew getting good water in the desert was difficult?

+1 on sticking with beer, but what about beer made WITH the water?

Boiling solves most of your non-metal problems. Yeast solves most of the rest, and for the remainder? More alcohol.

oh yeah....check the brand.  Culligan water filtration/RO system is trash.  It's expensive but it's not even that good.  I think Alhambra is what my brother has but I'll double check.  I've never seen such amazing ice.  It's literally like looking through glass.

That's not true.  There was a cancer cluster a number of years back, and the cause was never found –– therefore it must be the water goes the local legend, and if it's the water it must be the base –– again goes the local legend because nobody knows.

There have been no "huge fuel spills", at least not of which I'm aware, and I spent several years there.

Last I heard, the childhood leukemia cluster was being blamed on a combination of low levels of arsenic in the water plus tungsten dust in the air. Either one of the factors alone would apparently be no problem.

Or, it could have just been random chance stacking up as a "Cluster".

Like rolling seven five times in a row with honest dice.

It can happen, but not often, so creates suspicion when none may be warranted.

That's the most logical explanation to me –– but I still don't let my boy drink the water unfiltered, even in Fernley.

Were you around during ww11 when triclor. and carbintec. were used to clean Engine parts and then dumped in open pits few old salts left to tell  Don
