Red Flag will be at Nellis July 16-27.

Is there a good spot not too far out of Vegas to set up camp and watch the jets go by, or see any of the action?

Do they go supersonic over the desert?

GD told me that the Ruskies are invited this year...

Yes the aircraft do go supersonic over the desert.  However, the only good view you will have of them is when they take off from Nellis to the North.  If you setup camp with everyone else at the speedway or Nellis Dunes, you will see them.

Looks like a weak show.  And since when does Schriever have a FS?

I grew up in Panaca, 2.5 hours north of here. And a lot of the action goes off right over my home town. I have pictures back home from high school of two F-15's and two German Mig 29's dogfighting right over my town. They where banking and zipping all over the sky right above our house. The Mig's kept dumbing flares because the F-15's kept maneuvering behind them. It's not always that good of a show over my town but a couple of years it was epic. A lot of the fighters also zip thru dry valley SW of caliente at about 100 feet off the ground trying to evade the enemy radar defenses.

Is there a particular time of day that would be best for viewing from the speedway area? I can't be there more than an hour or two, tops.

I'm looking forward to it. I guess I'll go chill at the speedway!

I can't provide specific times as they takeoff at different times every day.

When your driving South on 93 and an F22 buzzes you you have a very good view. I about shit my pants and thought my truck was coming apart. I've also had A10s use me for target practice on the Pan AM road in Lincoln County.
