Good choice.
Just far enough outside of the the city, that would be Carson City, to avoid the city trash. But close enough for shopping, dining, entertainment and some lobbying when the legislature is in session. If you find the right location, on the outskirts, you may be able to shoot in your own yard. Beware the Hwy. 50 speed trap around town. If you are at all prone to compulsive behavior do not come to Nevada, the casino's drain a lot of peoples savings until they have nothing left. |

Dayton is a good area. Like Richard said, close enough to stuff but far enough away to stay peaceful.
If you like the outdoors and have a 4x4 there are a ton of jeep trails to the south in the Pine Nut Mountains. A few old mine sites to explore and great views. Welcome to the area. |

Welcome to Dayton!
There are still plenty of great buys in the area and a lot of houses are close to BLM land so getting out to a shooting spot isn't hard and there are several previously established spots that are nice (as far as desert ranges go). And they are right about the cops. There are some dicks out here. |

a few points of discussion, if you like trees Dayton has damn few. if you like to dust your furniture, Dayton is great !! make sure (very sure) you have good neighbors. some areas of Dayton are like any other track house neighborhood with average good neighbors, some areas are more "rural" with the odd felon living in close proximity.
Dayton does get snow, but it melts pretty fast. Not many creature comforts in Dayton, you WILL be driving to Reno or Carson City quite often if you like to do stuff or want to have have decent shopping beyond the usual milk eggs and beer, so plan on a good fuel efficient car and have a good set of snow tires in your possession for the winters, waiting to buy them for the winter can sometimes leave you without for the first snow. Come on over though, we are a friendly sort this way. |
