My fiancee and I are looking to spend a week in Las Vegas in late May of this year.
We are going to be doing some traveling through Utah as well and as such we will both be bringing and carrying pistols. I've looked into the laws in Utah, and we are covered there by our resident VA permits. I am having trouble discerning the laws in NV, specifically Las Vegas. I've looked over the LVMPD website and I'm getting somewhat lost. I would really appreciate any help you all could provide. I'm specifically looking for more information on whether or not we should obtain NV non-res permits (if they're still even issued) or if we should get AZ non-res permits (which I believe are honored by NV) Also, we're looking for some guidance on where we can carry. Casinos, restaurants, etc...??? We don't drink alcohol so that's not a problem, but can we carry in places that serve alcohol? Thanks in advance! -Chase |

As long as you aren't in a public building (library, courthouse, city hall, etc) that has been signed no guns, you are fine. Casino's, restaurants, stores, bars, movie theaters and other private establishments open to the public can post signage stating no guns or such, but the most they can do is ask you to leave if they learn you have a gun. If you refuse it's a different matter. But if you are carrying concealed they will otherwise have no knowledge of you possessing a gun on their premises and wont give you a second thought. The law does allow for consumption of alcohol up to a .10 BAC. |

Thank you for the quick responses! Any other pertinent info I may need to know? Yes.. your permit isn't valid in NV. http://nvrepository.state.nv.us/ccw_changes.shtml You can open carry and have a loaded handgun concealed in your car, but you can't have a concealed handgun on your person. |

I think that's why he was asking about an AZ non-resident permit. |

I know NV doesn't recognize my VA permit, and that is why I was asking if AZ would be the best non-res to get. |

Strange that NV doesn't recognize VA's permit but does WVa. I agree. There are many reciprocity issues that don't make a lot of sense to me. FYI, for anyone else interested. AZ is running right at 60-80 days to process apps...I hope ours gets here in time.

I asked the NRA ILA directly. The case against NLV was thrown out for lack of standing. NRA intends to pursue the issue, but for now at least we still have to worry about NLV's silly shit. So the NLV-Boulder BS "Law" is not enforced? If it is enforced NRA should be able to find someone with "Standing" to pursue the case. If they could find several, even better! |

AFAIK... North Las Vegas is still enforcing their ordinances. Henderson and Boulder have seen the light and do not enforce their voided ordinances. Please show me where this is a Henderson law. Link 8.98.010 - Concealed weapons prohibited except by permission. It is unlawful for any person to carry upon his person a concealed weapon of any kind or description, including a knife with a blade of three inches or more, a gun, pistol, revolver or other firearm, within the City of Henderson without first having received written permission from the chief of police. So the city of Henderson and the city of Las Vegas do not allow CCW at all? Or are you just referring to non-licensees? [off to check the NV website....] Please tell me I didn't waste my time and money sending in that AZ app.... ![]() North Las Vegas (a different city than Las Vegas proper), Henderson, and Boulder City, still have old codes and ordinances on the books prohibiting the carrying of a concealed handgun without the written permission (a CCW permit) approved by the Chief of Police. Nevada is a preemptive state in regards to firearms, and state law supersedes county or city ordinance/code (with the exception of handgun registration, which only applies to Clark County residents). Although Nevada CCW permits are state permits, they are issued by the sheriff's of each individual county, not police chiefs. Henderson and Boulder City police respect state law in regards to preemption and CCW permits, but the jury is still out on North Las Vegas. Although Nevada does not require notification to law enforcement while armed, you must declare that you are armed if asked. If you are pulled over, shut off the vehicle, put the driver's window down, keep your hands at 10 and 2 on the wheel, don't make any sudden moves, and comply (if it's at night turn the dome light on). Volunteering to the officer that you are armed is up to you. I suggest telling him/her up front (but that is my personal opinion). You will be GTG in Las Vegas, Henderson, and Boulder City. On the other hand, North Las Vegas can be a roll of the dice, especially with an out of state permit. Enjoy your stay and leave lots of money! Be Safe. Joe |

This has always been my SOP when getting pulled over. I do believe it has got me out of a few speeding tickets.... I will stay away from NLV then. Thanks for the tip. Will definitely enjoy the stay, but probably won't leave much money. Stay safe, Chase |

Got my AZ permit and the fiancee is still waiting on her's. We've still got two weeks before we leave so maybe that will be enough time.
Any food recommendations. We're staying at the MGM Signature Towers, fyi. I've been to Vegas before, but I know restaurants come and go. We will definitely do Charlie Palmer's at the Four Seasons for the weekly cut unless someone advises otherwise. We are renting a car, so travel to and from (MGM signature tower) will not be an issue. Any other "must do's" in Vegas. We plan to do the Hoover Dam and see a few shows (Penn & Teller, Blue Man Group, etc..) We will be in Moab, UT for a week before we head to Vegas, so if you have any experience there as well feel free to add. Thanks! Chase |

Bumpity! We're spending most of a week in Vegas for a family reunion in the latter part of June. What defines "North Las Vegas?" I have no idea where we're staying yet; it's a house that's been rented out I guess. NV honors my KS permit and I've read up on Handgunlaw.us and this thread, so I think I'm more or less squared away on most issues. The NLV question is my only one at the moment.

Thanks. Looks like it's everything North of the 515 and Express Way for the most part? Clark County and Las Vegas have green street signs. North Las Vegas has blue street signs. There are some places where there will be green street signs on one side of the street, and blue street signs on the other side. Just be aware of those signs and you should be OK. |

For the green signs, however, they usually are without a block number on them. |
