| I flew in yesterday from Jersey yesterday and am going to DEFCON with some friends in Vegas. Any other AR15 members attending that would like to meet up? Also, anywhere specific I should go? ...I would like to play with some of those fun NFA toys that are illegal in NJ.... |

For future reference...
When you are in Vegas and you want to rent some MGs, I recommend going to American Shooters. If you are going to Defcon and want to shoot, check out the Defcon Shoot, which is held on Thursday morning before the Defcon 101 talk and Toxic BBQ. This year, they had some NFA firearms (AOWs, SBRs and MGs) at the Defcon Shoot, which you got to shoot by supplying ammo. The Defcon security Goons are shooters and had custom ARs made. http://eecue.com/p/32535/Goon-AR15.html . http://eecue.com/p/32536/Defcon-Security-Goon-AR15.html |

I know a lot of hackers tend to be of the libertarian/anarchist persuasion, but are there a lot of shooters/2A guys in that community as well? "Hackers" come in all forms of ideology. So, you can find both anti-gun hackers and pro-gun hackers. However, from personal experience of attending Defcon for the last 9 years (7 of which working as a goon), the majority of the attendees I encounter are gun owners. I think it comes from the fact that the information security industry is high paying and nerds/geeks tend to like guns. Because of this, in the past, there have been several talks on firearms (ranging from "how to fly with guns" to "how to be a responsible gun owner" to "how to own NFA firearms") at Defcon and other information security conferences, as well as shooting events. I'm guessing that's one of the reasons why Oleg Volk showed up and covered Defcon this year. I do know all the security goons, which range from liberal democrats to conservative republicans, are all gun owners (some also own NFA firearms) and pro-2A. |
