It's the basic math which is perhaps the best argument for this November's U. S. Senate race. Nevada is the hardest hit state with unemployment, foreclosures etc... However the incumbent who is at the pinnacle of power in the Senate has done the least for his state. Nevada as we all know recieves a disproportionate amount of the Federal relief dollars being doled out. Could it be any simpler? Hello Republicans... |

Quoted: It's simple Reduce Spending Reduce Taxes Reduce Regulation Reform Education That will fix our economy. Thanks Tony I couldn't agree more with both you and 308Sako. But I think where the GOP and especially the erstwhile tea party faction of the GOP has fallen short is in defining "HOW" they are going to do that. What Spending are you going to cut? Medicare? SS? Defense? The rest of the Federal budget is background noise compared to those big three. What politian on EITHER side of the aisle is going to tacke one of those sacred cows? Spending cuts outside of those won't even put a scratch much less a dent in the deficit. What taxes are you going to cut? I'm completely and 100% for reduced taxes across the board - but until you make meaningful spending cuts (see above), reducing taxes just puts us in a bigger hole. What regulations are you going to reduce? Regulations on banking and the mortgage industry? Yeah, letting the "free market" regulate themselves worked out well for us, huh? How are you going to "reform" education? Again, totally and 100% in agreement - but HOW? How do you FORCE parents to become involved in their kids education? Because THAT is THE #1 determinant of whether a kid is going to succeed or fail in school. Yes, some kids succeed despite that, but not many.... I really do hope Angle wins, because the more lifetime politicians we get rid of the better.... but until the GOP stops becoming simply the party of "NO" and starts doing something meaningful and offers concrete ideas and details of HOW they're going to implement them, they're no better than the Dems right now. And given that many of the same Repubs are still in office when they screwed the pooch royally back when THEY were in power... it doesn't give me a lot of hope anything will be much different if the balance of power shift back in their favor. They were just as corrupt, just as sleazy, just as self-serving as the current crop of Nancy's boys are now. Personally, I'd like to line all 535 of them up against a wall and start from scratch..... |

Sharon Angle has already tackled the Social Security sacred cow and got blasted RIGHT HERE for not being "politically savy" and "unelectable". The free market does just fine, right up until the gubmint tries to meddle with it. Yes, there are periods of adjustment that need to take place when things get out of whack but, that's part of the process. The housing market being the prime example. Yeah, things were inflating abnormally six - seven years ago but, they would have adjusted themselves just like always except the gubmint decided to step in and strong arm banks into giving loans to people that didn't deserve them. So we went from the market adjusting itself like it was designed to do, into the bottomless pit we find ourselves in now. |

It goes even beyond that, because in a free market, businesses are "allowed" to fail if they make bad decisions. But the government insists these banks are "too big to fail," so government meddling––which by its very definition, means it is no longer a free market––has created an even bigger problem. If these "too big to fail" banks knew there would be no bailouts, I can guarantee some would have figured out how to stay afloat. The others would have folded, as they should, and all these folks in foreclosure would have a free ride for YEARS, not paying a mortgage while their mortgage lender was in bankruptcy court. And after all those years, they would likely get a letter from the court asking for just a bare minimum, token buy-out and these folks would own their homes outright. Can you imagine that? Millions of people would then be mortgage free, with half their money now freed up to stimulate the economy, instead of being bankrupt and homeless with no credit and no money! The government wouldn't be down trillions, and the economy would have snapped back within months of the banking meltdown! If the financial industry WAS free market, we wouldn't be in this mess right now! -Caver |

First of all, don't get me wrong.... I'm a HUGE believer in the free market. However, anyone who says the market ALONE will work itself out is full of shit. Are you honestly saying there should be NO gubmint regulation of any kind? Do you honestly think Wall street has your best interests at heart if ALL financial regulation were removed. How about the oil industry? Anyone here who thinks BP would self-regulate and put controls in place to mitigate environmental disasters, please raise your hand. How about all those toys from China? Tell me you think without a Federal agency regulating their import, that we wouldn't have MORE mercury poisoning going on? Or your food? Or your drugs? Or your vehicles? Or your banks? Think any of the corporations that manufacture, market and distribute any of the above would regulate themselves and put the safety controls in place out of the goodness of their hearts with ZERO accountability or regulations in place??? Do ANY of you think the individual consumer, via "the market", is going to exert much if any influence over that? Do I think there are too many gov't regulations in some areas? Absolutely! But there obviously wasn't enough in other areas like the wall street investment banks. Know why these investment banks got too big to fail??? Because previous gov't regulations had been removed preventing that very thing from happening. A strong and vibrant economy is one in which a BALANCE exists between market forces and gov't regulation. And there's ALWAYs going to be a tug of war between the two. But to say that the market alone knows best and would work well with ZERO regulations is just not thinking this through very well. The key term here is "sensible" regulations. The absence of all regulations is called "anarchy". |

The agencies that would be in charge of such regulation wouldn't/don't care about anyone's best interest until someone puts a camera or recorder in a rep's face; until then they only care about mindless adherence to the minutiae of their overbearing rules. |

Are you honestly saying there should be NO gubmint regulation of any kind? And anyone who thinks that government regulations work is obviously full of shit, too. The financial collapse is one great example, as is the latest oil spill. We HAVE a TON of regulations for the financial sector, yet they are being administered by people who are taking cash directly from them. There are massive environmental regulations for the oil industry, yet we ended up with the government entity giving BP the license to drill without the required environmental safeguards! Do you honestly think Wall street has your best interests at heart if ALL financial regulation were removed. Like the regulations which require banks to give risky loans to people they know can't pay, or they lose their FICA ratings? Do you even know the regulations the banks must follow that you're advocating are necessary? Don't you think if the government did its job and prosecuted for fraud and theft, that this would be enough? How about the oil industry? Anyone here who thinks BP would self-regulate and put controls in place to mitigate environmental disasters, please raise your hand. Well, as I said, obviously the regulations already in place being ignored by the government didn't help a whole hell of a lot! Perhaps the regulation which caps the oil company's liability isn't such a good thing either. Perhaps the regulations which prevented the oil companies from drilling in Alaska so they were forced to drill in risky and enormously expensive areas like the middle of the Gulf at a mile down aren't such a good thing... How about all those toys from China? Tell me you think without a Federal agency regulating their import, that we wouldn't have MORE mercury poisoning going on? We already have regulations on this, and obviously they don't work. The only thing that stopped these products from continuing to hit our shelves was places like WalMart and Target pulling them of their shelves and screaming at their Chinese suppliers. Do you really think the government can properly regulate every shipment coming into the country, testing everything for these defects? Bullshit. It's the big retailers whose balls are on the line that stop this from happening, generally after a non-government report from the non-government media reports the findings of non-government watchgroups. Or your food? You mean the regulations that allow cancerous tumors to be ground up and used in our beef? Or the ones where the lowest grade meats are sent to our schools? Or your drugs? You mean the organization that practices "pay to play" with the drug companies, forcing out the smaller companies? The same group which takes drug manufacturers at the word on their reports? The same group that doesn't allow farmers to spray their fields with dilute garlic juice, for example, which has been shown to be just as effective as chemical pesticides? Or your vehicles? And it took a private organization to point out safety issues, and our best source of information on safety and reliability comes from a private industry. Or your banks? You mean the same people that took money from them are doing such a fantastic job, that they should continue to regulate them? Like Obama, who took more money from the financial sector than any Senator, who signed into law the bailout? Or Senator Dodd, the senator who took the second most amount of money from the financial sector, who was head of one of the government committees responsible for regulating the industry? The same guys who, with all their regulations, stopped the financial meltdown? Oops! So individual consumers are so stupid that they would continue buying tainted toothpaste, even when the media points out the stuff is poison? And even though places like WalMart yanked this stuff off the shelves before the government could do anything? Do I think there are too many gov't regulations in some areas? Absolutely! But there obviously wasn't enough in other areas like the wall street investment banks. Know why these investment banks got too big to fail??? Because previous gov't regulations had been removed preventing that very thing from happening. So you believe that the government's job is to use regulations such that business are stifled to the point of being more "manageable"? You think it is a bad thing that businesses can thrive in an environment where there are less regulations? And when the banks (and not all of them, mind you!) screwed up and failed, you think it is a good thing that the government spent trillions to bail out those very same people, instead of... letting them fail? A strong and vibrant economy is one in which a BALANCE exists between market forces and gov't regulation. And there's ALWAYs going to be a tug of war between the two. But to say that the market alone knows best and would work well with ZERO regulations is just not thinking this through very well. You mean like during the time of explosive growth in this country's history, when we became the super power we are, with an infrastructure (privately built!) that rivaled any country which had been in existence for thousands of years? The key term here is "sensible" regulations. The absence of all regulations is called "anarchy". Much like sensible gun control, I guess. After all, it sounds like you are suggesting that American business isn't responsible enough to be allowed to grow without "sensible" regulation, just like many people suggest that the American people aren't responsible enough to own firearms without "sensible" regulation, either. -Caver |

Lets start with cutting taxes.
We can cut excise taxes in half WE can cut fees in half WE can cut the capital gains to 0 The death tax goes to 0 Social security goes tax goes to 0 The current taxes on income to to a flat 9% for everyone!! Taxes on savings gains go to 0 taxes on health care related items go to 0 The phone surcharges go to 0 Lets stop funding studies like the one that was funded to study the effects of music. Lets cut the tariff off raw imported sugar Lets cut the tariff on clothing. Lets get rid of the last 20000 regulations that were passe and written pertaining to employers. IF you do just this list, it's off top the races but you also have ot cut taxes and regulations Regulatons You can come up with more but lets start with deletion of asset forfeiture rules. One of the most misused rules in the law enforcement arsenal today. FFLs no longer have to keep 4473 - yellow sheets for any more than 2 years. perfection is not a requirement. Lets cut the regulations that have driven manufacturing over seas in half, both industrial and environmental. CO2 is not a pollutant, do not regulate it or tax it get rid of cafe standards on cars. Lets get rid of the phony endangered species list. Lets get rid of the boutique gasoline's that plague our supplies Lets get rid of the department of energy - we don't need it. Lets drill for oil in our own country and not in 5000+ feet of water. Lets cut the double standard for federal employees and average joes in hiring practices. Lets get rid of special fees for tires and oil disposal Lets get rid of the minimum pay both state and federal Lets stop pretending we need half the rules we have now as they were put in place to hurt and not help people and businesses Spending Reform medicare reform medicaid reform social security How about national workfare Get the government out of schools reform GSA spending reform the national park service and park fees Reform the education department and do a full financial audit How about we either let he troops win or bring them home. how about we curtail the power of the federal government in our daily lives. example flush toilets, water usage ( we have plenty of water) Hows about we stop letting the federal government bribe us with our own money. AKA federal matching funds for their experimental programs and other programs. How about we eliminate the EEOC, The health care bill and financial bill that were both passed. And get rid of that tag on pillows that says do not remove this tag. Driver this is the short list Statewide Cut all taxes by 50% cut all but essential regulations. Restore property rights and get rid of the stupid master plan and the insane zoning laws. Eliminate all HOAs ( that is the government letting you be taxed twice) confiscate by eminent domain federal land in any county larger than 100,000. Eliminate restriction on development of residential property and mandate that housing densities larger than 6 per acre are not allowable. Eliminate the modified business tax, cut the sales tax in half, reduce gaming taxes to 2% and eliminate the room tax. Reduce the start up requirements for new businesses and cut the county paperwork in half for ffl and liquor and tobacco licenses. cut the state doing background checks and taxing firearms at $25 - let the federal government do it. it's free and fast. Education becomes the province of the states and local governments - no federal involvement or testing. The government gets out of student loans. State wide educational reforms include only testing one time every 3 years. standardised teachers evaluations getting rid of the requirements to become a teacher n this state, people with specific degrees like math and science are needed badly. A total review of the books and elimination of any that call for "social justice" or socialism. Ask Ron how many pages he had to fill out for his ffl here in town.- clue 90% were unnecessary. This is the starter list. This is the scratch of the scratch of the surface. If you or anybody wants to add something to the list, have at it.I'm all ears. Eaglereaperdriver "Personally, I'd like to line all 535 of them up against a wall and start from scratch....." And I whole heartedly agree. and no we aren't going to shoot them. did I hear some one say dang? There is lots we can do, you have to stop justifying everything in terms of it might happen or it supposed to keep this from happening from getting in the way and use some actual reason. I dont think that they would just walk away from an asset or sell it to the homeowner/freeloader for a "token buy out". Im just speculating...Im not a banker I work for a living. LOL |

I think 90% of the current regulations either go too far or are unnecessary at all. But are you honestly advocating a return to the completely unregulated industrial revolution days? Seriously, think that through before answering. Yes. Yes, I absolutely am. And are you advocating that the government should continue to be responsible for controlling industry? Seriously, think that through before answering. Government regulations do not work, except in as much as they serve the government. If you believe in government regulations, then how can you believe in free market capitalism? The two concepts are absolutely, mutually exclusive. Free market capitalism built this country! And the more I think about it, the more I realize that the concept of "sensible regulations" is about as asinine as "sensible gun control". We've been dumbed down to the point that statements like "If it wasn't safe, they [the government] wouldn't allow it to be sold!" are all too common, particularly when something goes completely wrong. It's time to retrain people to be responsible for themselves, strip the government of their regulatory powers, and turn it all over to the private sector. The very fact that your reaction is basically implying that I'm a moron for even thinking that, shows just how ingrained the "government will protect us" attitude has become! How can we claim that the government can't regulate our firearms, but turn around and claim that society would crumble if they didn't regulate every other aspect of our lives? Is it such a stretch to rely on things like ASTM and ANSI standards (NOT government agencies), certified by organizations such as the UL (NOT a government agency) and make a conscious effort to check for ourselves instead of assume? I absolutely do not believe we need government regulations to run this country in a safe and orderly fashion. These are things the private sector should be doing, and the government should be absolutely forbidden from dealing with! |

Carver, thanks for the unambiguous stand. I disagree with you, but I think you continue to misrepresent what I'm saying as well. Never once did I imply that "gov't should regulate every aspect of our life". Not even close. You seem to think its an ALL or NOTHING proposition. However, if you ahd bothered to read my original post - I said that a healthy economy was one in which there is a BALANCE between free market forces and moderate regulations. think of it as a checks and balances kinda thing. Without the check of regulations on the "market", the market would quickly run amok. Without the checks on over-regulation by the market - the gov't would run amok. Its always a pendulum in motion. Take away one of those balancing forces and the whole thing crashes. You're entitled to your opinion. But you're wrong. |

The statement "with the check of regulations on the 'market'" is, in my mind, a vote against the free market. I believe you are saying "We can only have a free market so long as... it isn't a free market." But what has it bought us? The regulations bought us a financial collapse, a slow recovery, and people screaming for more regulations. The checks and balances should be provided by the people, not the government. There are non-government entities which specifies standards for everything from the strength of steel to the gauge of wire used in extension cords. The government's only job in these areas, should be as an outlet for the people to address grievances against companies who, by flaunting the standards, cause loss of life or property. I am suggesting that the government has no business regulating anything, because by doing so, they take control of all aspects of our lives. Ultimately, they end up regulating everything. I am not saying there shouldn't be standards. What I am disagreeing with, is who should be responsible for those standards, and how they are applied. I don't think we can have it both ways. We can either have a free market, with standards applied by the people and enforced with free market principles, or we can have government regulation, which disregards the free market, and applies the principle of increasing government control, and all that this implies. |

Only a gov't - state, local or federal - has the power to enforce those standards and punish those who don't follow them. Let's break this down to something simpler.... you say there should be ZERO gov't regulations. You say there is no such thing as even "sensible" regulations and laws, right? Especially when it comes to gun laws. Do you think a convicted Felon should be allowed to own a firearm? Should an illegal alien from Mexico be allowed to walk into HDI and buy an AR-15 or any other firearm he wishes? Should a mentally ill person diagnosed by a competent doctor be allowed to buy a firearm? Should anyone be allowed to stockpile explosives such as TNT in their garage next door to you in your neighborhood? Should anyone be allowed to walk in off the street and buy an RPG and the HE rounds to go with it? Should a convicted wife-beater be allowed to walk into a store and buy a gun on a whim? Should a known and self-admitted drug abuser be allowed to buy a gun? I could go on, but you get my point. If you answered "NO" to any one of those, then you are in favor of "sensible" gun regulations. |

Big Edmond - The cuts in taxes would force the reductions in spending and there are lots of places to cut. And no we don't start with teachers, police or firemen. There are plenty of back end places to cut before we get to that.
Eagle-ReaperDriver on gun regulations and other regulations. Do you think a convicted Felon should be allowed to own a firearm? Yes, but you have to cut the number of felony laws that are currently on the books and the entire term must be served before you let them out of jail,. Should an illegal alien from Mexico be allowed to walk into HDI and buy an AR-15 or any other firearm he wishes? Why not, what about the guy from Canada? Should a mentally ill person diagnosed by a competent doctor be allowed to buy a firearm? This one is up to the dealer. Should anyone be allowed to stockpile explosives such as TNT in their garage next door to you in your neighborhood? WE have worse explosives in the house now, gasoline, paint thinner, ammonia, fertilizer. Nobody gets up set about that. Should anyone be allowed to walk in off the street and buy an RPG and the HE rounds to go with it? Again yes, Don't you think I can handle the rpg? I think Caver would like one. Your assumption seems to be that some will use it or rather misuse it. We have that with many things now. , once you get down to it. A 22 can cause enormous damage. Should a convicted wife-beater be allowed to walk into a store and buy a gun on a whim? This is a law that should have never been enacted, this law prevents the woman who is the victim from being armed. VPOs are not bullet or knife proof. So, yes I want him to be able to get a gun and I want her to have a gun as well. No, the situation is not desirable but you need all of the facts before intervention is started. Otherwise you are meddling. That puts you in the middle and that is dangerous place to be. Should a known and self-admitted drug abuser be allowed to buy a gun? Abuser or addict, it makes no difference The answer is yes. The implied assumption here is robbery, but what if the druggie can afford it and needs it for self defense. A lot of these questions come from the same source. The liberal progressive play book and we have been conditioned that these things are bad and that government can solve the problem with a law. Well the short answer is it didn't do the job and the government failed and these laws are enforced posthumously, the victim never had a chance because the law was against them and they followed the laws. The laws cannot be a suicide pact because these laws attempt to impose conformity on people who do not recognize conformity. Or to put it another way, The honest man was not going to use the gun to commit a crime anyhow, but he criminal with every law written will still commit the crime. The law is meaningless and only serves as a detriment to the honest man who needed no law to begin with. Understand that laws about many thing s that are basic are those we keep. NO society can operate a as a lawless entity. But many of the current laws were designed to hamper people not make them better off. That is the wrong intent. Freedom once fenced off ceases to be freedom, even with the best of intentions it has unintended undesirable consequences. WE have lost so much freedom that it is not funny and it was sold to us as needed for "social reform". The people who passed these laws were either idiots or had other motives, either way these were bad laws and were counter productive. But it was only a small thing. It's called creeping incrementalism and there are many, many rights that have been whittled away with just such a plan. Speech rights have been whittled away, states rights have been whittled away and now must be reclaimed. I know you already know most of this but I write it to make sure it has been said. Longun45.
Right, because our government, IE both sides have cut spending with less tax income. Republicans cut taxes in 2001, and 2003 while in full control of the federal government, yet increased spending saying the tax cuts would in turn increase the amount of taxes collect. That failed. So, the idea of cutting taxes will force cuts in spending has been proven wrong. Those are the facts, and you can not argue them, though i expect you to try and shift the blame some how. Also, you idea that criminals should have guns is a great idea. While we are at it, why dont we just put our big screens on the lawn, and leave keys to our cars in them. And drug addicts have never been know to rob people so they can get a fix. Please take off your rose color glasses. Not all regulations are bad. |

Non gov't entities can set all the standards they want - but they don't have dick for authority to enforce them, do they? Only a gov't - state, local or federal - has the power to enforce those standards and punish those who don't follow them. I think you are still missing my point. The government should only be able to prosecute a criminal act, and a criminal act should always have a victim. I own a rifle with an eight inch barrel: procedural issue, no victim, no criminal act. I rob a liquor store, regardless of whether I use a rifle or not: victim, criminal act. I own a food processor plant and don't pasteurize my peanuts properly: procedural issue, no victim, no criminal act. My improperly pasteurized peanuts causes three people to become ill, and a child to die: four victims, criminal act. When the non-government entities come into play, is by saying "If you pasteurize peanuts this way, they will be safe to eat. This company is not pasteurizing peanuts properly." Now tell me what you would prefer, as the peanut company owner? The government catching you eight or nine times, slapping a small fine on you here, and a small fine on you there? Or a non-government organization revoking their endorsement of your company, and notifying all your distributors and retailers that you are known to be selling products which do not meet the minimum standards for safe preparation? Let's break this down to something simpler.... you say there should be ZERO gov't regulations. You say there is no such thing as even "sensible" regulations and laws, right? Especially when it comes to gun laws. There is no "especially", but go on... Do you think a convicted Felon should be allowed to own a firearm? Yes. My step father is a convicted felon. He can no longer protect his family, no longer go hunting with his sons, no longer go shooting with me... I wish he still could. Once you served your time, and are delivered back into society, all of your rights should be restored. If you're too dangerous to have your rights restored, should you really be out of prison anyway? Should an illegal alien from Mexico be allowed to walk into HDI and buy an AR-15 or any other firearm he wishes? Trick question. There shouldn't be the concept of illegal aliens, because once we eliminate all social welfare programs, they simply turn into immigrants.
Should a mentally ill person diagnosed by a competent doctor be allowed to buy a firearm? You mean like veterans with PTSD? Trick question: If someone is dangerous to themselves and others, they should be institutionalized. Otherwise, why shouldn't they be allowed to own a firearm? Should anyone be allowed to stockpile explosives such as TNT in their garage next door to you in your neighborhood? How about tannerite? More than 1000 rounds of ammunition? 50 gallons of gasoline? Honestly, how is anyone going to know until there is a problem, anyway? Should anyone be allowed to walk in off the street and buy an RPG and the HE rounds to go with it? Why not? Technically, I can buy an RPG and HE rounds now if I want to, anyway. It's a $200 tax stamp for the RPG, and $200 tax stamp for each HE round. Doubt I'll find anyone willing to sell me any HE rounds, regardless. If I do buy a crate, I'll be storing them in my home, until I can secure a proper explosives battery. ;-) Should a convicted wife-beater be allowed to walk into a store and buy a gun on a whim? That falls under the "convicted felon" answer, above. Should a known and self-admitted drug abuser be allowed to buy a gun? You mean like Ambien? You see the side effects on that? Here are some of the juicy ones: "abnormal thinking; behavior changes; confusion; decreased coordination; hallucinations; mental or mood changes (eg, aggression, agitation, anxiety, depression)" Wow, huh? So, how much do you drink? Is the guy who goes out with his friends on the weekends and gets plastered be denied owning a gun? Is taking an OTC drug inappropriately, such as taking an extra dose of Tylenol than the box says, considered abuse? Or are you only talking about "illegal" drugs, like the guy who smokes a little dope with his friends on the weekend? Anyway, it's a trick question, since depending on how you define "drug", just about everyone could be denied firearms. From the perspective of "illegal" vs "prescribed" drugs, taking a single hit of pot once a week is considered "abuse", while taking a large dose of oxycontin daily isn't considered abuse if it is prescribed. Half that dose of oxycontin IS considered abuse if it is not prescribed. The definitions are completely arbitrary. Besides, how are we to even know this now, WITH all the regulations? You are saying the guy is dumb enough to put "Yes" to the illegal drug question on the form? Or do you believe a NICS check is capable of determining such a thing? I could go on, but you get my point. If you answered "NO" to any one of those, then you are in favor of "sensible" gun regulations. I got what you're saying, but I still say there should be NO firearms regulations. Of course there are some people I would rather not have a gun, but I would rather they didn't drive a car, have a knife, a baseball bat, or a fireplace poker, either. And for all of the firearms regulations, these folks still get guns anyway. Do you really think a convicted felon who, getting turned down by a NICS check, says "I guess I won't be robbing that liquor store after all!" Does the lack of a CCW keep the bad guys from carrying concealed? Does one extra US made part keep the gang member from shooting up a party? Sorry, bringing the conversation to firearms made things even easier for me to say "Down with the regulations!"
Really, I'm not an anarchist. I just see a giant difference between a regulation, where the government fabricates a crime where none existed before; and a law, such as "don't steal" or "don't kill" or "don't punch that idiot in the face", which are the cornerstones of any civilized society. |

You are right when you say the tax cuts done by bush should have been followed with cuts in spending, but using the progressive play book he kept spending high. That raised the debt. Bad Idea. Tarp = bad idea, bailouts = bad idea, spending our grand kids money = bad idea.
In taking about cutting taxes forcing a cut in spending, that is at the state level. With the balanced budget amendment that is in effect in this state it would force a reduction in spending, but only on the state level. ON the national level you must cut taxes, spending and regulations at the same time or the fix does not work. "you idea that criminals should have guns is a great idea" Shouldn't any person who has paid his debt to society have his rights restored including his 2nd amendment rights? Criminals already have guns and all of the laws does not seem to stop them! Does it? Thinking in terms of R and D is at best a misnomer. Both parties lost their way a long time ago and are not now what they would like you to believe. Both sides have progressives in their midst and both produce the same results, government dependence aka socialism. That is why you must vote the person and not the party. There are good democrats out there, I know a bunch of them. You don't hear much from them either. Most are forced to tow the party line of socialism, they hate that. And we have a bunch that talk out of both sides of their mouths in both parties. That is why you must not shirk your duty and be informed from every source you can find. Deeds speak louder than words. What did they do? Not all regulations are bad. And you are correct, but we have way too many that are both counterproductive and down right stupid. Somewhere along the way we lost a lot of rights, property rights is one of the biggest. IN some cities we have tree police that tell people they cannot cut down a tree. Some cities have trash police that check your trash to see if you are recycling, In this town we have water police, grass police, property use police. The businesses in this town are under a lot of regulatory pressure, that raises prices and kills competition. The regulations to open a business, even a small one man business is a mind boggling experience, you should check it out. Can you send your child to school with a peanut butter sandwich? We now have “guidelines” for lunches that kids bring to school. Ever wonder why zero tolerance was instituted at schools? Try putting up a carport. The last regulation I will mention is the blue cards. Handgun registration for what purpose? The criminals are not going to register their guns and if a gun leaves the state it's till in the system. It doesn't solve crimes; stolen guns are very rarely returned. And yes, addicts will still do robberies, but we have that NOW! There is no magic bullet for that, there never was. I have no rose colored glasses, and you can try and make all drugs illegal, oh wait we already have that –– it didn't help, we still have robberies. Human nature has not changed, and our founders knew that. That is why we have the system we have now. Safety was never guaranteed and anybody who says they can guarantee it is a straight up liar, and should be ignored. I know what I am saying is hard to get your mind around, it was for me too a ways back. But when I go to the poles and have to hold my nose because the choices offered are both at best sucky, because there is essentially no difference between the candidates, we have been had. It's a false choice that we are stuck with. But because the system has a self righting mechanism, and you are seeing that mechanism in action. The politicians from both parties have been ignoring the constitution for far too long and twisting the meaning to suit their own ends. Couple that with an undereducated public, saddled with taxes so much, that both parents must work and the second income is to pay the child care and taxes - that's wrong. The family is the strength of this country and the proper functions of government must be restored to get the lives we want. The things I say are hard, we are confronted with hard choices and history shows the best way to handle these items. Giving a person the freedom to be them selves is the best course of action, free of the government interference and social engineering that is going on now. It’s not going back to the old ways, it’s going to the best ways, to insure the promise of this country. Freedom is preferable to slavery and right now we are about to be totally controlled by people who do not have your or my best interests at heart. They (progressives) want control, not just you but of everything. I refuse to give it to them. And I intend to fight them anyway I can. The best way is to get elected to the state senate and as I said a long time ago "that is where the fight is going to be". I do apologize the response is so long, but much more is at stake than you know. No there is no conspiracy, it was an open plan published in many places. And we thought - not in our lifetime, but here it is. Thanks Tony Wright www.wrightfornevada.com |

My business started 5 years ago as a 2 man deal, and 2 years ago, had to buy out my partner because he wanted out. Since then, i have been on my own trying to get my business working again. I know all the problems that small businesses face. As to you question about "Shouldn't any person who has paid his debt to society have his rights restored including his 2nd amendment rights?" My answer is still no. Part of being a felony is, you lose your rights. Those people made the decisions when they broke to law to chance getting caught and sent to jail. They had the opportunity to go down the right path that we have taken, but they decided not to. As i am always reminded in political threads; Everyone must live with the choices they have made. I may sound harsh, and honestly i don't care. |

You will see the "served his debt to society", even though they are in a stay out of trouble clause, were released early due to overcrowding, or are on probation (either formal or informal). The other side is that having a record sealed (rights restored) isn't as hard as people think it is. Sure, there is a time frame for convictions, which is based upon the offense. A guy I worked with growing up was popped for a felony and sent to boot camp. He waited his time and submitted his paperwork. His rights were restored and record sealed. |

The government should only be able to prosecute a criminal act, and a criminal act should always have a victim. You are a grave robber = no victim I would suggest that the family is the victim, not just for having their loved one's grave defiled, but also having the grave site vandalized. I would also suggest the organization which owns the cemetery is another victim, not just for the vandalism of their property, but the trespass... You are sex offender that loves to live near kids = no victim Sex offender that doesn't register = no victim Who the hell is letting all of these sex offenders out of prison, when they are still a threat to society, anyway? And if they're not a threat, why do they need to register or live in a particular place? Illegal dumping on public land = no victim The public is the victim. DUI = no victim You got me on that one. Also running a red light, a stop sign, or driving on the wrong side of the road. As is waving a gun around in a crowd. There clearly are a few flaws in my proposed "no regulations" philosophy. One could amend that and say "or committing an act of which there is an imminent threat of bodily harm", of which I would consider DUI, running red lights, and so forth. I would hate for that to be twisted to mean "carrying a gun" as being an imminent threat, though I personally believe it is perfectly safe unless you're an utter moron.
Having sex with dead bodies = no victim The family might have something to say about that. Understand it happens in medical school more often than anyone wants to talk about. One word: Ewww! This is just a sliver, but I tried to have a little variety to show that limiting criminal acts to only ones where there is a victim isn't reasonable.
Someone doesn't need to be standing there with a black eye to be a victim. But you are right, clearly there are a few flaws in my proposed "no regulations" philosophy.

{quote} As to you question about "Shouldn't any person who has paid his debt to society have his rights restored including his 2nd amendment rights?" My answer is still no. [/quote] That's a good honest answer. Remember that did not come in to play until 1968 the same bill gave us the yellow page test. I call it a test as you have to fill the damn thing out correctly or people get dinged and it's not the buyer. Part of restoring rights is to regain the elegance of the person and to readmit him into society. And with the dearth of felonies we have out there, most of which are nonviolent, we need them to be sure they will be on the law-abiding side. It's rough enough coming out of prison to a disability. They also have a natural right to self defense (given by God) and a firearm is the best choice. Anything less than full rights and that person is not considered a citizen. Just food for thought. Quoted: I own a food processor plant and don't pasteurize my peanuts properly: procedural issue, no victim, no criminal act. My improperly pasteurized peanuts causes three people to become ill, and a child to die: four victims, criminal act. So you would rather have NO regulations and wait for a dirty food processing plant to kill children and a criminal act to finally occur than to have sensible regulations enforcement of clean health and hygene standards to prevent a child from dying, right? Because that's exactly what you're saying. What if it was YOUR child that died? I'd bet you'd be singing a totally different tune. Oh and what you're describing is essentially what the US had back in the late 1800's during the industrial revolution. Very little to NO gov't regulation on industry, health, work place conditions, etc. And look at how well that went. Child labor, very low life expectancy, diseases, lots of deaths from tainted food, asbestos, etc. And you seriously WANT to go back to THAT??? I'm not for an instant saying that we are where we need to be. Gov't regulation is out of control in many areas and needs to be drastically scaled back. But to say there should be NO regulations AT ALL is simply moronic. |

Regarding the portion of this discussion that has turned to the restoration of rights: Keep in mind that the idea is still present in law that all the consiquences of a conviction are supposed to act as a deterent to a person committing a crime in the first place. Therefore to make nice to some scumbag that has in a non-violent way detracted from our society is to raise him and lower the rest of us... Ask yourself if you think the crime the individual got caught and did time for was the very first offense? Do I think our convoluted set of laws make sense, hell no. Just look at the thread regarding the NLV vs Sate of NV on the ccw... A thought for potential polictical hopefuls; in the future our law makers should be required to repeal 2 statutes for everyone they try to enact. |

Tony Wright www.wrightfornevada.com See, I do agree with you on some things, and I'm not even talking about the police, teacher, firefighter thing. |
