This Memorial day I give thanks to the men who died birthing this nation and the men who put their countries need to be free above their personal benefit.. Our history has been taken from us, so I give you a quote from WIKIpedia ( not the best source but it's correct in this case.)
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 31 in 2010). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. soldiers who died while in the military service.[1] First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the Civil War), it was expanded after World War I. From the men at Lexington to the men in Afghanistan, we have a great debt that must be repaid to the future generations. We must leave them the values that made this country so different and such a great threat to the rest of the world. That value is individual freedom and religious tolerance. The world has a hard time with us. We have shown that with individual freedom and individual salvation, people not only excel, but thrive in ways that were never contemplated. It's not just the standard of living, but the manner in which we conduct ourselves towards each other. We don't blow up our fellow country men for being a different religion, or a different sect of a religion. Are we perfect, no. But we are a darn site better than any other form of government on this earth. Here a man can grow to his full potential and gain from the fruits of his labors. We indebted to those who came before us and are obligated to those who come after us. We have an obligation to see that those who come after us, learn the history that brought them here, to the most blessed nation on the face of the earth. Part of that, is the reasons that others died to keep this dream of freedom, who they were, the role they played in this countries history and the role played by Providence. Unfortunately they won't teach this in school so those of with children and grandchildren need to educate them and ourselves. Knowing where we come from and how we got here is of the most paramount importance to keep our holidays like Memorial Day and The 4th of July meaningful and worthy of celebration. This day we remember the dead of all US wars and give them a thank you for their sacrifice. We know what they died for and will work to keep it worthy. |
