Are any of you BR guys part of this too? Norhties, I'm assuming. Saw this in the San Diego paper, effin' treehuggers:

"McFarlane says coyotes have killed several calves over the last three weeks at his family's ranch near Fallon."

I guess those protesters don't eat meat, or care about those that EARN their living raising the livestock that those overpopulating predators/vermin attack.

Posting the "Annual Battle Royal" here on the NVHTF only brings unwanted scrutiny by the anti-hunters, anti-gunners, and tree huggers. Our organized events should be discreet and they should not be posted and get out of hand like the postings of this last event has (no offense Jon).

It is only ammunition (no pun intended) for the antis to use against us in upcoming legislative sessions to create more laws and restrictions.

I would keep these events covert and only put it together through our network of friends, and not publicly post it on the most viewed gun board in the world.

While we should be sensitive to people who don't understand that 'yotes are the rats of the desert, we also don't need to pussy-foot around for the sake of other people's ignorance...
Rather than hide our enthusiasm for Freedom and conservation from the people who would eliminate it, we should show them why our way is the better choice, and bring them into our fold.

Invite them. lol.  It's pretty funny that it's news in San Diego.  Guess there's nothing else important there.  Have them come up with their Chargers jerseys and protest it at 5am when it's not 80 degrees for them.

Not trying to be an asshole ishoot2live,because I understand and agree with the reasoning of your post, but I kinda feel like why does our side always have to be the ones that have to stay quiet and on the down low while the lefttard treehugger types get to be as loud as they want and shout us down? They will never have an honest dialogue about hunting and conservation issues because they know they would lose the logical/intellectual argument,so they become the squeakywheel which gets all the grease.Maybe it's just the modern political discourse afeecting me,but I say fuck them, let the treehuggers justify, with evidence and facts instead of emotion, their position.if they can't then they should be shouted down and shut their mealy double speaking mouths!

Here's why:

Because the left wing, tree hugging, anti-everything crowd has a way of organizing on a wide scale to implement and change laws through lies and confusion. I just can't see jeopardizing a Nevada tradition (varmint hunting) because those events are plastered all over the gun boards. By posting each event the events get bigger and bigger. The bigger and more advertised they are the more the ammunition the antis will have to bring to the legislature to try and ban varmint hunting. Especially when it is billed as a contest with points, bragging rights, and prizes.

Hell, if they managed to restrict an area in Nevada because of a 1" fish, they surely stand a good shot at banning or regulating varmint hunting. We don't have to "stay quiet," we just need to be more discreet that's all. Do you think every time I go varmint hunting I post it? If Nevada were the same as it was 20 or 30 years ago I would say yell it from the rooftops. This state has been slowly moving toward the left, and it's not just the liberals either. There are big game and small game hunters that despise spotlighting varmints. And there are some hunters that despise those who hunt with Black Rifles.

Remember, the more people know, the more people know, and sometimes it is the wrong people who know too much. Don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.

Once again, JMO.

Animosity amongst hunters?  Oh hell yeah... big time.  They bitch about bow let-off weight, crossbows, types of scopes, rangefinders, EBR's, etc.........

It's the same: "Gun owners and hunters are their own worse enemies"

I remember pre-'94 before the AWB (and even to this day), some gamebird hunters and big game hunters told me that there was no legitimate reason to have an EBR, or a high capacity semi-automatic handgun. If THEIR guns weren't threatened they didn't care.

Fast forward to present day: Now that ALL guns are in jeapordy by the antis and the current administration, all of a sudden they are interested in 'everyone's' gun rights. Most people could give two shits about cancer until they or someone close to them gets the disease. Then they become involved.

Joining NRA and wearing a NRA shooter's cap is not enough. If we as a gun community had the same determination and drive as the antis we would definately be less vulnerable.

Yep, we are still divided and the antis know it.

Sad.

All the more reason to make it big if you ask me. That means more people varminting, more people hunting, more people hunting with black rifles, and more opportunity to educate those that might oppose what we do out of ignorance. I've only been at it for a few years thanks to you guys inviting me to a BR a few years back but in that short time I have seen a lot of new faces. If they are anything like me their interest in varminting and maybe even hunting in general continued to grow well after the event. From there they can go out and expose others to the hobby. That makes more people standing with us or at the very least less standing against us.

This is still a fairly private event. Short of the public announcement on a private forum of the event taking place everything is still done privately through one on one contact of members. It would be fairly difficult for an anti to get ahold of any pertinent info to organize a protest. They don't who we are, where we will be meeting, or where we will be shooting. There is no official organization or entity behind the event. It is pretty hard to protest a bunch of screen names/first names taking part in an event that you know very little about.

Andrew,

No offense here. Do you really assume anyone is going to persuade anti-gunners, anti-hunters, and Animal Rights Activists that there is actually any legitimate reason to eradicate varmints and pests? Look at what happened last weekend in Fallon, with a publicized coyote hunt that was planned by ranchers that took place on private land. The antis and protestors against that event were not even from Nevada, they are based in N.M. and Kommiefornia.

Most, if not all of the BR participants are here from the board and other similar boards and they are of like mind with us. All it would take is a couple of antis to join the board surreptitiously, sit back for a few months and join an upcoming BR event undercover. How do you think PETA gets into meat, poultry, and chicken farms to get covert information and video? They become employees.

I strongly disagree if you believe that anything can persuade the animal rights whackos that there is anything justifiable about killing (in their diffident minds) guiltless furry doggies and bunnies.

I still stand by my beliefs that it should be toned down, otherwise we stand a chance of the NRS being changed to protect currently unprotected pests and predators.

I have.

My mom's best friend is a super lib. All the usual weirdo hippie agendas right on down to the healing powers of crystals and magical vortexes. When my mom told her about the varminting I do she about blew her top. Apparently she demanded to meet me the next time I came to AZ so she could give me an earful. When that day finally came she confronted me on it. I politely told her exactly what we do and why we do it and she changed her tune. Obviously, she would never take part in it herself but she no longer had a problem with others doing it and we get along just fine. The wackos that take up an agenda without listening to reason aren't an accurate representation of the people that vote to take away our right. They might be the champions of the cause but they are still the minority. By keeping quiet we allow them to lead the people and steer ignorance in their direction unopposed.

The Fallon event was completely open and in the public. The protestors new what and who they were protesting. It would be pretty funny to see them try to  protest a semi-anonymous person. pballjunkie666 look out! LOL. If they did it would be pretty easy for us to reschedule by privately notifying the participants. Sure, they could infiltrate the forum in an attempt to gain access but it wouldn't really accomplish much. The coyote contests across the country still go on with them knowing everything about it. I have read about them getting to pull Nikon as a sponsor for one event but that isn't something we really have to worry about.  I am glad you mentioned that they were from out of state though. CA and NM animal rights groups hold no bearing on Nevada statutes. They can express their displeasure for something we do and call it a protest all they want as far as I am concerned.

I guess I just hate sitting on liberty for the sake of preserving it. If you cannot openly exercise a right then you don't have that right. To hell with hiding in the shadows like a criminal. I will gladly stand up to anyone that wants to challenge my rights if I have to.

Not trying to be an asshole ishoottolive, because I understand and agree with the reasoning of your post, but I kinda feel like why does our side always have to be the ones that have to stay quiet and on the down low while the lefttard treehugger types get to be as loud as they want and shout us down?

Ok. I succomb.

Very well articulated Andrew!

I couldn't have said better myself.
