Do we have any battle mountain folks here? I'm looking at buying some land out that way about 40 acres off of hwy 305 and would like to know what the summers are like? the people? town conveniences etc... The main use of the land would be for recreation but will be looking to put a small cabin on it in about 10 years or so. any info would be great Thanks

Battle Mountain is a small town..conveniences include several gas stations, McDonalds, a truck stop, small casino, a fireworks store, etc.

I think Battle Mountain is actually on an Indian reservation.

You will probably end up going to Winnemucca for provisions.

Weather is typical of northern Nevada weather-light snow in the winter, rarely heavy snow. Temps frequently in the teens in the winter. Summer temps frequently are in the high nineties, sometimes in the low 100's.

A guy told me he was on an Amtrak train on the rail line through Battle Mountain. Like many western towns, Battle Mountain has the first letters of the town name on a nearby hillside. The people on the train saw 'BM' on the hillside, then they saw the town. They thought 'BM' stood for something else.

Send an IM to JAMES77257, he sells land up that way and used to have a few 40 acre plots.

I grew up there. Summer is typical N. NV (Hot/Dry). BM is not an Indian Res., although there is a Res. located there. Groceries, Gas, Food and auto parts store. A couple restaurants and small casinos. Fun place for outdoor recreation.

Gunsap. What are the reasons you want to buy there? If it's for an investment thats probably not a good idea. If it's for a get away be prepared for a lot of boring nothing. If your married and from a big city do not do it. You will more than likely get a divorce. Have I said there is a lot of nothing there. If you like to be alone and not have anyone bother you it's a great choice. You will make friends and things but most of the oldtimers are live and let live as long as you don't bother them. The Hunting is good around there and will not take long to find the hot spots. There is no shopping there. So if you have the urge to go shopping it's either Elko or Winnemucca, As far as work goes it will most likely be in a mine.

The Airport is cool there. But I have only passed it on the Hi-way. It has or used to have an F111 Ardvark there an F4 Phantom and I believe it was an F 86 Sabre. Not sure if they are still there. I haven't paid much attention the last time I went through there.  It also has a lot of Pioneere history there. All the pioneers heading to California came through the area. (The Donner Party).

For those that can't figure out what the deragatory letters stand for. It's Bowel Movement. BM

Myself I would love to live there because I like the alone stuff and not many people. I grewup in Elko when everyone knew everyone which was about 7000 people there. I later moved toward Reno because I did not want to work in a mine.

Hope this helps.

WOW, looks like the tree huggers (Sage huggers?) have made LOTS of progress there!

How welcome are RKBA people and owners of "Black Rifles" going to be in this Solar, "Living close to the earth" little commune of Al Gore disciples?

I think it is probably one of the LAST places anyone from this board should consider buying land!

There is a small bunch of em livin up in the hills but I 've never had any trouble out of em! I think thay know better! Most of the people I know hunt, fish own lotsa guns and belong to the N.R.A ! So if your a shooter, LOVE FREEDOM and black rifles ! WELOME TO BATTLE MTN !!!!

Well Battle Mountain does sound like a good place for the wife and me, we don't care much for the city life we have done rural and city the thing both and for the most part neither one of us care to much for people let alone the neighbors.  We are planing a trip in February to look for some land the lot I was looking at the owner backed out so its kinda back to square one for us but I'm sure we will find a nice chunk of land out that way. Thanks for all the help, I might even go check out the hippies camp in Feb. LOL...
