| Anyone have any info on AWC suppressors Good or bad |
|
Not probably going to be terribly helpful, but AWC is an odd company in that they don't publish performance data, nor are their suppressors independently tested by anyone as a rule. Once in a while there is a magazine review, but it sort of seems like a lot of their stuff could be [or is] behind the times. Their prices are very high to the point that it's doubtful they could sell product fast enough to keep up with the market.
They have been around for a very long time, and that encourages some people to buy, people who want to be confident service will be there in the future. I don't know what their service policy is, whether you pay for repairs or they conduct them for free, so that insurance they will be around may be less helpful than it appears on the surface. I've seen AWC silencers for 30 caliber rifles that had cross drilled washers for baffles (cheap technology not offering performance to compete with more expensive to machine parts.) Heavier than welded silencers, louder than taper EDM bored silencers of similar composition. Basically any C2 manufacturer could make a cross drilled washer baffle can for $200. Silencers with machined K baffles or conical baffles made with 316L and 718 inconel cost about $375 to manufacture before adding any margin, and some people are pushing them out the door for half what AWC is probably charging for the 300 series cross -drilled washer baffle can. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=8&f=21&t=324441 I have a good 5.56 silencer deal going right now. Any orders for those are appreciated, I'd rather have less 5.56 silencers and more money to make .22lr silencers that are popular with the market.
Making really good stuff isn't too hard, the hard part is sitting on $18,000 worth of a product, waiting for people to begin to be interested in it. At $750 (where these would have to retail to be worthwhile from a financial perspective), these would be toward the high end of thread mounts. I'm just making the silencer I want to use overseas, not a cheaper device that would be easier to sell. If anyone can help the poster with more info on AWC, that would be great. You may want to try the suppressor forum in the armory section, where you can get the whole country on an answer... I know some guys use AWC 5.56 cans, and they seem to like them. |
