Im an Active Duty infantry Marine who is deploying to Iraq for the second go around next month. While i was at the hospital this week bringing my first son into the world I had an idea. Bring the "Any Marine" program to ARFCOM Hometown Forums. Being that im in my Companies Intel Cell, part of our HQ platoon, I can equally distribute out to our 3 sections anything that anybody donates. We are heading to the Karmah Area, once a notorious insurgent hotspot. The unit we are relieving unfortnately took a major loss with the death of their Batallion Commander, Lt. Col. Max A. Galeai, so the area is still active and becomming increasingly more everyday. If anybody thinks this is a good idea let me know. Anything that anybody wants to send out to us would be very greatly appreciated. Any tactical gear or optics or books or magazines or dvds or sock and boxers. Anything that you can think of that a bunch of Marines could make use of would be awesome. |
I totally agree, however I will have minimal contact with soldiers when im in country, other than when we get resupplied or if I have to go to Bagdad to the CCCI (the main court in Iraq). If anybody wants to step-up and do the same thing with an army unit deploying then more power to them. |
Sorry she's a civilian and doesn't understand the difference between Marines and Soldiers |
Boy, does that hit close to home. My son is a Marine and I recently made the MISTAKE of referring to him as a Soldier I was quickly corrected! |

Ok so I took a poll of the majority of the guys in my company and this is the list of stuff we would love if people donated: packaged tuna (any type) sportsdrink mixes (since water bottled in Saudi Arabia doesnt taste that good) books (military, spy, murder mystery related) magazines (any type that 18-25 year old guys would like i.e hunting, fishing, guns, automotive, GQ, any other "good" magazines. Also if anybody wants to donate p-mags that would be awesome) fishing gear and/or a fishing pole (as strange as it sounds we have a lake that we are allowed to fish on. It has a very strange eel with a catfish like head, regular catfish, an iraqi version of stripped bass, an iraqi perch variant and carp. The have been feeding off lots of meat in the last decade since they last owners of the lake dumped ALOT of bodies in it when the brothers and dad were still alive) Bottles of multi-vitamins (like from GNC) Workout type pills such as Hydroxycut etc etc (no explanation needed on this one) Nalgene type bottles (so we can fill up on ice and water before kicking out on patrols when its 118 out) Velcro-on Reflective or non reflective American flags (so we can represent our country, even though its obvious that we are US Marines) Store bought or homemade trail-mix (great snack food while on patrol or at 0200 in the morning when you get off a 7 hr patrol) There is probably more, i just cant think of anything else right now, just got off 14hr shift. If anybody wants to donate any of the things above feel free. Just shoot me an email of what you are sending. Thanks in advance Lenaburg |
OOPS! Sorry about that..I will send some boxes to ya anyway.. |
That's right Animus. There is a difference. Semper Fi!!!! We are still all Americans, but there is still a difference. |

You and your fellow Marines will be in my prays for a speedy and safe return. Enjoy your time in the Corps. You will miss it once you EAS. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about my time in the Corps as a 0311 and Sea Duty Marine. I truely wish I had just half the equipment that is issued these days. Things were alot different when I was in 10 years ago. I will get off my soapbox now. |

Here is an exerpt from the email I sent to gunmonkey upon reception of the package he sent out to us "Hey gunmonkey I got you package today. Thanks a bunch for everything. One question though, why a thong? I got quite a strange look from our SSgt who was inspecting our packages for contraband. He shook his head and walked away chuckling to himself. At least its not my size so i wont feel bad when I dont try it on. Thanks alot and tell all the people at the G-Ville post office thanks for the little not they put on the outside of the box." The thong i speak of is a small white thong with the Hamdogs logo on it. Also from Hamdogs is 2 black skull caps, which unfortanately our Battallion does not allow us to wear. So thanks to Gunmonkey for making the next 7 months a little more bearable. If only they could fix the generator so the ac's would work in our oven like cans that we sleep in. |
