What's the NV laws regarding the carry & use of pepper spray for self defense? I can't remember what my CFP instructor said about it.  I just bought a Sabre 3in1 can at Bass Pro for the wife and I'm trying to find out if she is able to legally carry it.

pepper spray is legal.... CS gas "tear gas" is not.

Read NRS from 202.370 to 202.440

Thanks Javelinahunter. One more question, who, in town, sells the Sabre Red spray? I called a few stores but no joy.

It looks like the statute is saying a 2oz spray of tear gas is legal - am I misreading it?  I have heard good pepper spray is better than tear gas anyway, but don't know if that is true.

2 oz. limit unless you are a convicted person. You will see some brands mix CS and OC.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is Sabre Red better than Sabre 3-in-1 Advanced with CS?

Well, pepper spray is measured by its MAJOR CAPSAICINOIDS (MC). I know that the Sabre Advanced has .33% MC (rated at 2 million SHU) and 1.5% CS tear gas. FOX Labs has a 5.3 million SHU rating and 2% OLEORESIN CAPSICUM (OC) but I can't find it's MC rating. However, I hear that it is great and no you are not going to spray me with it to find out .

CS is definately less effective.

The easiest way to check the potency of the OC (unlike how we do by spraying each other) is to spray a styrofoam cup. If it dissolves you are GTG.

another vote for Fox Labs

I vote for buying several brands, spraying variable, then checking the scream-o-meter for a winner.

Shy of that, Fox Labs is the one I have heard makes the best asshole repellent on the market.

Out of curiosity, why is CS less effective? And which one do you guys carry in the AF?

Don't know what the AF is carrying now.  Currently waiting on new shit so we/they aren't carrying any now.  We use CS grenades during training.  It will make you miserable and if you have a sunburn its worse.

Most know I am willing to try anything 8 or 10 times, but OC with me over and over is a no-go. I am allergic to it, although I still get hit every so often to get certified.

I never used any type of mace or pepper spray when I was in the Air Force.  I just carried a 26 inch stainless steel ASP.  The only spray I'd want to carry would be the kind that would make someone piss their pants and forget their name for half an hour and make them feel like they had gonorhrea in their eyes.

same here I'm glad you posted that cause it is Very True,my Dog at the time sat his Big Butt on a can in the front seat.

I could'nt pull off the Highway fast enough for me when it hit, pitched the can and used all the Dogs fresh water I brought to rinse my eyes out etc.

Damn Dog was nearly Immune to it(it was my fault anyway)

I know the feeling! My dogs pinned a cat under the shed for a couple of days and I couldn't get it out. So I got the bright idea to gas it. Just as I sprayed it a gust of wind came back at me through the bottom of the shed, and I hit a beam with the stream right in front of me! I caught a full dose square in the face and eyes!

The only time I quit laughing at myself was when I kept tripping on everything in the backyard

I can still here that damn cat laughing at me to this day!

I knew a guy who had his own private security firm and tested sprays on the homeless in the area.  Very wrong but oh so funny.

That is truly wicked of him.  So why did I chuckle when I read that?  BTW, is variable homeless?

I got sprayed with Sabre Red.  That stuff royally sucks.  I got sprayed on a Friday morning and even with sunglasses on I couldn't go out in the daylight until Sunday it left the eyes hurting so friggin bad.

The burning feels a lot like CS, but with CS, as soon as you get out of the area or rinse it off the effects are gone within minutes.  The OC burned for most of the day even after washing a few times.

I have sprayed dozens and dozens of homeless in San Francisco (I used to live there )
It makes GREAT practice!
They would demand "change" & I would tell them to get a job, they would threaten me and BINGO!
I got to where I would only carry that grizzly bear mace in the giant green can, like a mini fire extinguisher (you quickly learn to test the wind before hand)
Cops never seem to know or care about the law WRT pepper spray, one told me "you can't use this on people" (I guess because it said bear on it) I shrugged my shoulders and replied
"it works fine on people" Always yell something like "leave me alone" "stop" when spraying, the witnesses always talk to the PD in Reno so you want them to say the right thing.
