| Got a call on my pending ccw (9mm add-on) and they had a computer crash and a bunch of computer signatures that they use for printing cards was gone. Lady was nice and said to come down and go straight to window 4 and she'll walk me through. Went down yesterday and she did just that. Walked out with my card a few minutes later. Hated to drive all the way down there again though. She said they found the signatures but they were oversized and still not usable - and that they had a backlog of 6 weeks, whatever that means. |

Some of this shit I just don't buy anymore, a computer crash...This ain't the 80's...hasn't metro heard of backing up data. Whadda' they got one 486?? WTF Somehow that shit just don't float. Metro's in the cat bird seat when it comes to issuing CCW's and we would all do what ever just to get our card, but it dosen't make it right. Look, I'm not bashing the "Boy's in Blue" but "IT" really need to step up. |
Nevada1, The CCW detail did have a software problem last week. The permits were printing, but they couldn't get the signatures to appear and a permit is not valid without a signature. They were really trying hard to fix the issue. I think they are almost back to normal. Be Safe. Joe |
I work for Metro IT and more then likely, it was an issue with the vendor for that specific hardware. We have several vendors like NEC (finger printing) and Imageware (does photography for bookings and photo ID's), when something of theirs dies we call them. I'm not personally invovled in the case, but in my experience I'd say it's more then likely it was something on the vendors end like an update to their software that caused problems. I do not think it is a failing of Metros internal IT design or support staff. We've got a solid backup and machine replication system in place. But the front line people wouldn't know that. They only know the computer is down and call it a "crash." I wouldn't doubt their credibility that something is indeed wrong with the system. |
I finally got my paper work in a couple of days ago Dec. 18th. It seemed to be a fairly streamlined and efficient process. I took Joe's CCW course back in October and just got the paper work a week before Christmas........... ![]() If Joe reads this I'll probably get a nasty "IM".......... |
Hmmm. That explains why my UPDATED CCW still hasn't arrived. I added my G20 back in early November. They told me 10 to 15 business days. Still nothing. At least I have an inkling as to what's going on. |
