Trying to figure out what may work for me. Right now I have a cheap Uncle Mike's paddle holster for my Tomcat and am carry-holsterless on my Taurus PT140. I've tried wearing the paddle holster in a multitude of ways but unless I wear an overcoat the weapon outline is very visible (at least to me). Are ankle holsters an option, fanny packs? How do you guys do it in order to stay in a concealed weapon stance? I don't wear suits, ties, and sport coats.....Dockers are about as "dressed up" as get. Thanks in advance |

What are you trying to carry concealed? I'll pocket carry smaller guns, like a Keltec or Kahr. You can just have a T-shirt to hide those. When i carry the glock, i'll use a short sleeved button shirt with T shirt underneath. Milt Sparks, Comp-Tac, and Kytac made good IWB holsters. |
Well I see myself carrying my Beretta Tomcat more often as it's the easiest (smallest) item I have to carry but I would like to carry my .40 cal PT140 at times as the Tomcat isn't a big knockdown type of firearm. Right now the only holster I have for my .40 is an open-carry holster. This is all new territory for me, I've never carried before and as such really have no idea where to start looking for quality options. |

BlackHawk CQC Serpa and a Rigger's belt for range work and large overshirt carry, and a Galco Deep Cover for deeper IWB carry. BlackHawk CQC Serpa Holsters Galco Deep Cover Holsters I carry a Sig P220 and a Colt 1911 Stainless Commander in both the Serpa and Deep Cover, and a Sig P232 in a Deep Cover. Hope this helps. Joe PS: Come to think of it Rich, I don't think BlackHawk makes a CQC Serpa holster for either of your guns. ETA: Shit, I forgot to mention BladeTech IWB. It's late and my brain isn't firin' on all eight.... |

i just bought a galco pancake for my new glock 27 and it's working out pretty well. I cant quite go without printing with just a tee, but i wore a button down the other day and it was just fine. I personally would not recommend a blackhawk CQC for CCW as i cant get that thing to hide under anything. I also have a Galco "Royal guard" for my 1911 and it works out great. it disappears under a tee. ETA: stop by Native Nevadan on Decatur and Lake Mead. I bought both the above holster from them and they have a good assortment. Just try to catch them when they haven't just returned from a gun show. they're kinda cleaned out after that. They also have some good leather Galco gun belts. One time I went, they had great service, but the second time, they hovered over me like I was going to steal something |

Ive carried my Glock 26 in a Bladetech IWB for well over a year now. I cut off the 'sweat band' and its much more comfortable.. I wear a regular tshirt over it and no printing... WHen I carry my Keltec its in a Grandfather Oak pocket holster....doesnt print in the poket and when you go to pull the pistol the holster stays in the pocket....nifty device. |

I carry a kahr Pm9 in a Galco Pocket Protector and it works rather well, they do make one for the tomcat too. For my primary i usually have a pancake style holster like a Bianchi shadow II, galco concealable or something similarly styled, or a belt slide holster like the galco m7x matrix or sihouette, again there are other makers that do similar designs. One of the more important things to consider is that you can actually get to the firearm when you need it. I have a box of holsters, as may others on this board, that didnt make the grade because either you couldnt get a firing grip on the gun while in the holster, or the angle was wrong or the retention was too little or too much. good luck

Congrats! Now that you have decided to CCW, you have a lot of wierd stuff to consider that you never thought of before. Whadda ya do with yer piece when it's time to take a dump? As to carry options, I recommend getting a tupperware box about 24"x36"x24" deep. This is where all of the holsters you thought were going to solve your carry dilemnas are going to be placed. Later, you can post those holsters for sale on this board and one of us can buy it from you and put it in our tupperware box. Seriously, be prepared to have some carry holster dissappointments and failures. Some guys can do ankle carry. I hate it. Some like SOB, doesn't work for me. I am tall and thin, so I buy my trousers (jeans or whatever) 2" larger in the waist. Then I stuff an IWB of some kind into them. I have several for multiple guns. The Taurus TI 85 goes in a Mitch Rosen leather IWB with a steel belt clip. The Glock 17 lives in a CompTac kydex (infidel?), the Glock26 carried in a BladeTech. most of all, I need a holster that stays where I put it, retains the pistol when I am hanging upside down (not too often, but you just never know), rides comfortably on my hip all day, and allows the weapon to be easily reholstered with one hand (no squishy collapsing holsters!). Good Luck! |
| I recently was thinking the same thing. I have a Beretta Tomcat and a 90-two .40. I noticed I would carry the Tomcat a lot more since it was easier but I wanted to start carrying my .40 more often. I just ordered a Comp-Tac CTAC holster on Friday so we'll see how that works out. |

No one mentioned a Fobus. I use a Fobus paddle and my primary carry is a Kimber UC-II. No one ever has a clue, it rides high enough to be comfortable and accessible. I always need an undershirt of some sort though. I don't like the feeling of gun steel against my skin...(OH Baby). My biggest problem is, I'm quite tall and when friends want to give you a hug. I always anticipate that and turn my gun side before an embrace. I want my CCW a total secret. When I carry, only my wife really knows. When I first started to carry I was really self conscience. The more you carry the better it feels. In reality I think nobody has a clue... |
I would rethink Fobus..... Fobus Gun Grab |
I see what you are saying Joe, you have a point. My thought is... 1.) It should not be visible, I'm talking concealed. No one should know it is even there. This looks like an open carry situation/issue. 2.) If the situation gets that far down that slippery slope, I should have drawn or been in retreat. I just think every situation is going to dictate how you carry, AND your state of mental preparedness. BUT...this is good to know if I plan to open carry. I do have Galco Fletch that goes on the belt. |
With all due respect NV1, Why would a person utilize an inferior product concealed if the same product is inferior in the first place? Is a low-grade product any better cloaked than in plain view? I think not. Cheesy is cheesy... no matter where it lives. JMO |
