I'm going to be moving back to Southern California in the near future (don't ask, I have to) and I own an eeeevil "assault rifle"  I'm thinking I'd like to find a secure storage location either in AZ or NV that I can keep it at, most preferably near a nice range to play with it at.  Does anyone know of a place relatively close to the border? (besides your personal gun safe; thanks anyway - lol)

They are worth $700, just sell it and if you come back borrow one or buy one.

Fix a 10 round magazine in it with one of the kits from CalGuns and take the mag out when you bring it out of Kali,

If you owned hi cap mags in Kali before the ban you will be fine, or just buy a GI one everytime you visit that will be far cheaper than paying for storage

Just don't tell anyone in CA you have it

If you get caught, post here from prison and we'll see if we can get some soap-on-a-rope to ya.

Seriously, I hope someone can get you a good source however, I'd be VERY leery of leaving it at a business as in this town they go belly-up and or get sold all too often.  My 1st thought was that 24-7 Private Vault place but upon further investigation it doesn't look like their biggest "vault" would hold a rifle.

Good luck.

You know I thought about that, but you know how much of a pain in the ass that would be to break down my PTR91 and try and load a fixed magazine after every string of fire? lol

But at least you would be able to keep the rifle with you, and as you were thinking to store it out of state you would not of shot it anyway.

IIRC, Front site *planned* on offering firearm storage for members in kommie states.

don't know it that plan has come to fruition *yet* tho!

the other option is to pawn it for a modest amount.. just be sure you keep on top on the pledge tho! you'd also have to go thru a NICS check each time you get it out, unless you also keep your NV CCW up to date.

final option is to bury it in the desert, and hope nobody discovers your cache or builds on top of it.

I know 2 class III dealers that do that for high dollar firearms. The guns are placed in the dealers name only, but they have some contract drawn up.

Building on the NICS point, if he switches his ID to Kali ID he wouldn't be able to get it out of there.  He'd have to transfer it to someone else.  If he does the pawnshop thing here (which is a relatively cheap way of storing it) he'd have to maintain NV ID.  The problems with that are the business that stores it can go out of business and he'd have to keep up with the payments on his rifle or lose it.  -One woman was storing her jewelry at a local pawnshop and when she passed her heirs didn't realize that her jewelry was sitting in the pawnshop so they lost it all when the fees were not paid.

If he does not have a family member or friend he can leave the rifle with in NV, he might want to consider buying a safe and putting the safe with the rifle in long term, climate controlled storage.  It's a little spendy but if he is determined to hang onto the rifle and not violate Kali's laws by bringing it into the state that might be his last option.

So then back to my original suggestion of locking the mag in while in CA and unbolting it in NV save all the trouble.

The olny thing in the way would be if the Rifle is specifically listed by make and model on the CA banned list then you cant do the fixed mag thing.

I have 2 firearms stored at Front Sight (an Ar and a Shotty) for when I take classes.  Give them a call and see what the opptions are.

Can you rent a Pubic Storeage Unit 5'x5' and store it there????

two problems with a storage locker.. more like three actually.

some people may remember when out-of-town members here had their storage locker broken into shortly after a class at Front Sight. they'd pulled the hardware out, used it for the weekend, and put it back, then they got hit.

also, i just recently rented a storage locker to sort out some stuff from moving... the rental agreement specifically prohibited firearms, ammunition, food, gas, and a few other things. of course, if you're discrete, nobody'd know...

finally, there's the cost of a storage locker, even a 5'x5' would be about $45 a month. do that for a year and a half and the storage would cost more than the rifle's value now.

since we're evidently talking about a HK-91 clone, there's no kit that i'm familiar with that'll let you lock in the mag to make it Kali legal. but then, i haven't been paying toooo much attention to the silly regs in the PRK since i left 15 years ago.

Purchase (1) 8' 6"diameter schedule 40 PVC (rated at 10,000lbs). $15.00
Purchase (2) 6" end caps for the PVC pipe and (1) combo PVC cleaner and cement. $20.00
Purchase (1) can of Amsoil MPHD metal protector or M-Pro 7 to coat the gun. $8.00

Cut the PVC down to the shortest length your (broken down) rifle will fit in leaving an extra 3" on each end to pack with kraft paper or news paper
(so when cutting back in you dont hit he rifle).
Glue one cap on the cut piece of pipe (use the cleaner on the plastic then the cement), Spray the gun inside and out w/MDHD, Then wrap it in thin plastic, and Then shove in some paper and then the gun. Pack some more paper in the pipe and glue the other end on and your ready.

You can drive down any power line road, then hike off the road 1/4 mile and use a gps to pick your place to plant it. Bring a pick and a shovel and you will have it planted in 10 mins. It works great.
To restore it just dig it up (gps), cut off a end cap, and use a can of brake cleaner to clean it up, re-oil and your ready to shoot.

How bad do you want to keep that rifle.
