Did anyone watch dateline last night? It was about a guy, a CCW permit holder, in AZ that shot and killed an attacker on a hiking trail defending himself and after a lengthy court trial they found him guilty of 2nd degree murder and sentenced him to 10 years. He was by all accounts a 58 YO upstanding member of the community and the shit head he shot was a mental yo-yo with a history of being a trouble maker. Some evidence was also NOT presented to the jury. WTF!!! You are damned if you do and damned if you don't. That fuckhead might have killed him on the trail IF he had not protected himself, but he could die a slow death in an Arizona prison with 7 kids at home. Pretty disturbing shit... |

Didn't watch dateline, but I remember the discussion about this when it first happened. I can't believe they actually brought that to trial. How did dateline make it look? You know they're always biased one way or the other... edit: I just wandered over to the AZHTF to see if there was a link over there to the Dateline piece and found this thread. Looks like the court of appeals just ruled that the AZ Castle Doctrine law can be used retroactively and that will affect the Harold Fisch case. They seem to think he'll be getting released because of that ruling. That would be GREAT news! (sounds like the jurors were pretty stupid on the case too.... making a huuuge deal about the "size" of his gun- how "It's bigger than what police carry!" Yeah, no shit. He was out in the wilderness. You going to use a .22 against a full grown mountain lion? Idiots. |

wasnt that the guy that shot a man that approached him shouting and acting crazy after almost being attacked by his two dogs .. i think i remember that from the AZ htf..i would say he was in fear of his life in that situation.. thats bull. jon.. |
| Yeah, from what I understand, he's the one who was out hiking when two big dogs came at him. He fired a warning shot towards the dogs, then the homeless crazy guy rushed him threatening to kill him. Then Fish shot the guy twice in the chest (?) and killed him. What a cluster you-know-what. |
| Like my Criminal Justice teachers at UNLV say. In the court of law you will have to explain yourself to the 12 dumbest motherfuckers in the world. Try making them understand you and the law at the same time without using legalise. Im beginning to realize they weren't kidding. That should have been an open and shut case never making it to their DA's office. Poor guy was a victim of the circumstances and now a victim of the system. |

In Joe's CCW class he emphasizes “Shoot what the Police shoot”. That was one of the points the AZ prosecutor made, “He had a 10mm (OMG!) and he was shooting (GULP) Hydra-shocks. Guess the Arizona PD don’t shoot H-shocks. I understand LVMPD use HS or Silvertips and can carry a .45…True??? Things change so I want to have every detail covered if heaven forbid I have to defend my life or family. EDIT; One more thing..What is the present Nevada requirement for "Duty to Retreat" (outside your home) as in the Castle Doctrine?? |
| A bunch of reservists who are attached to my unit are LVMPD and I think they said they carry Hydra Shocks. I'm not 100% sure though. It was a few years since the question was asked. Alot of the departments back home carried either Speer Gold Dots or Hydra Shocks. |

Our issue rounds are Gold Dot: 9mm+p 124gr 40 S&W 165gr 45ACP 230gr loaded to our specs (they modified the hollowpoint for better feeding). All 3 rounds are running neck and neck performance wise on the street. Although I carry .45, I'd feel perfectly fine with our 9mm loads (and do, off duty). But I digress. Off duty we can carry any round as long as it's factory. HTH |
