I was working on my car restoration project and had a misshap with a buffer. http://adw.go-gbs.com/stitches.jpg

4 inside, 8 outside stitches and the wound is closed but still have to get the tendons reconnected tomorrow.

Guess I'll be working on my offhand shooting for a while.

This is EXACTLY why I train my students to shoot and operate their defensive handguns with their non-shooting hand. I sometimes meet resistance from students who think I am crazy to require such training and that is when I tell them what my parents used to say to me when I thought something was weird: "Just do it, because someday you'll need it when you are least expected and you'll thank me."

I am glad to see that you will be ok.

Be Safe.

Joe

ETA: And don't forget DKM: Utilizing the non-shooting hand when the primary hand is down isn't limited to just shooting. It also requires firm manipulation of the controls, and being able to clear all types of malfunctions one handed, including the dreaded "Double Feed."

My motto is: "Always train for the unexpected, because the obvious is often in disguise."

I would stay away from revolvers and just train with the non-shooting hand with a high quality semi. Plus, you still need to manipulate a revolver i.e. unload, reload, remedy malfunctions, etc. with the non-shooting hand while the shooting hand is down for the healing process.

I would stick with a high quality semi and master that, Bro.

Just my two pennies again....

I'm restoring a 1974 AMC Javelin. Since AMC used parts from all of the big 3, you could in a sense consider it a Ford height=8

I was using a Pedestal Buffer, kind of like a grinder but has buffing wheels instead of grinding wheels. They can be very unforgiving as you can see.

You got a 390 in that thing?

On another note, I know your in Pioche. I was there 2 weeks ago and saw a medium blue '68 Camaro parked next to a business. You know who owns it?

I've got a 360 in the garage for the Javelin. I have a 390 block in the shed out back. I probably wont mess with it because they only had 7/16 head bolts and were prone to stretching. If you drove down main street you passed my Javelin and house.

I've been trying to buy the  68 Camaro you speak of for 14 years. A lady named Diane has owned it since she was 16 and refuses to part with it. She tends bar at the Overland where you saw it parked and is a former LA Laker Cheerleader.

I was gonna ask who owns it and see if they were willing to part with it. Damn!

Cars, Cuts, Gun advice, what a well rounded thread.  I hope everything is okay with your hand.  As they say, "That'll buff out", no pun intended.

Ouch!..It's going to suck being out of the game with your shooting hand but like Ishoot says..practice with your other hand..you still need to be able to carry..Hopefully it heals quickly.  It's tough not being able to shoot..

And once your shooting hand heals up, you'll need to undergo intensive physical therapy and long hours of training to get back up to speed. That means lots of range time! There, now you have an excuse to go shoot more than usual once healed

Thanks for the get well thoughts everyone,

I'm home from the surgury. Everything went well. The Dr repaired the tendons and the severed nerve that I wasn't aware of. Next comes the rehab. I also have to get a rig for left handed use. Everything I have is for right handed draw.
