It is a PITA waiting for something you have the right to do without permission anyway, at least IMO. But it is worth it for the hassle it saves should the SHTF someday. So Wolfpack, when will you be signing up for a class? J/K |
Sheriff Bill Young is one of ex-Sheriff Jerry Keller's boys and Jerry Keller was anti CCW/guns for citizens. Therefore Young is too. If it werent NRS laws making them do it..Im sure he wont have guns on the streets if he had it his way. ![]() But Im glad you got your CCW. Welcome to the club! Now go practice shooting and carrying. Maybe eat some Nachos at Walmart! |
Good info. I carry everwhere now, and do practice both shooting and drawing. I think I will skip the trip to EvilMart though. |
You should carry everywhere. I already got carjacked once last year in May 2005 at Tropicana and Koval in broad daylight by some Mexican guys who rammed me from the front of my car. The best part is when dialing 911 Metro dispatch said I have no units to assist you but I will stay on the phone with you. Mind you this was friday at 2pm. You are the judge jury and executioner at the moment. Luckily I didnt have to shoot the two bastards! But they fucked my up the bumper on my Mercedes pretty good- bent it upward. Couldnt get them cause they had no tags on their car. I get so suspicious now when I see cars with no license plates on them. So my advice is to practice shooting and drawing from a chosen rig. Mine is a HK USP or USP compact in 9mm from Safariland holster and a Bushmaster M4 in the trunk when it gets extra crispy. Be safe. |
That sucks! I probably would have shot when they charged, since they basically attacked with a deadly weapon (i.e. their vehicle). Glad to hear you escaped with only a buggered up bumper, and didn't have to shoot. I see lots of cars with no plates here. It never ceases to amaze me because when I lived in the Bay Area, having tags that were only expired by even a few days would often get you stopped and cited. |
Your talking about Douglas County up north I hope. The sheriff here signs off on class 3 all the time..... |
I'll be doing some 'shooting and drawing' tomorrow AM at Desert Sportsman's....any of y'all are welcome to join me. |
Damn man I want to go...a few days late and a buck short! Yeah in the bay area... my mom was pulled over in Oakland cause the police were too busy harassing law abiding citizens to arrest drug dealers and gang bangers. Oh yeah the cops are in the jail too- The Riders they were called. Busted for wheeling and dealing. Anyways....cited my mom for failure to have a front license plate. Problem is there are no holes in the front bumper of her Mercedes for the plate. So my dad had to drill thru it and then still had to pay a "fine" of $20 bucks for paperwork. What a sack of shit! Oh and I saved a bundle on my car insurance! Anyways got my CCW in 75 days sharp. |
Yeah right. Those bastards are the exception up North. Bugger them!
|
I about fainted when I opened the mailbox today...hubby and I got our CCWs, 92 days. Yay! Was expecting longer (120 days).![]() Only one tiny problem, they have my birthday wrong (month and year are correct). Have to call tomorrow and find out how to get that fixed. |
If they made you older by a few days on your permit you should sue for "undue stress". As your advisor I'm only seeking a measly 34%. |
Ah, you were almost on to something! Two days younger, go figure. |
Congrats buttercup! So what are you and the hubby planning to put on your permits? I know you liked that little P-3AT... |
|
I dont think it is the Sheriff slowing the stuff up, when I got mine I was speaking to the lady at the counter she told me that they make you wait on all the checks on the day you apply and the permit is issued that day (Check your issue dates) it is only then delayed as they wait for NHP to process the fingerprints. I beleive they then just file fingerprints as they come back but the same person does not pull out the files for the permits to be mailed that is done after around 115 days when they file is reviewed to see if the fingerprints are filed at which point if they are the permit is issued. So actually the Sheriff is well within the 120 days as he issues on the day subject to fingerprints they just dont give you the permit |
Thanks! Yes, sadly, I only owned one pistol at the time (XD9 subcompact), but plan on adding my other XD9 4" and a few more as I can purchase them (yay, no NICS fees!). Some sort of Keltec is in mind, and not sure what else. Still need to get some new clothes to better conceal (baggier, lol), a good belt and an IWB holster. Yup, did notice the issue date was from the day we visited the sheriff station. They showed hubby his card before he left, but didn't show me mine. Could have caught the typo then, lol. |
Thanks for the tip! I currently receive American Rifleman, but might have to switch, or was thinking of subscribing to Concealed Carry magazine (the one that Wolfpack did a cover photo for). I called metro today, and they were very helpful and nice. I chatted for a while with Leah (sp?), she gave me some good tips and got my info corrected at the same time (NHP and Metro computer info was updated). I should have a new card soon, and can continue carrying no prob with this one. |

I have been just wearing a untucked square tailed button shirt or an untucked colored t-shirt. I am still self conscious of my concealed techniques, but I ask my only two confidants (my wife and my adult son) if I am “Printing” and so far I am “Stealthy” I carry a Kimber UCII in a Fobus paddle holster. One thing that REALLY improves comfort is a light undershirt. Without one the gun really will rub over a period of time. |
![]() Hawaiian shirts are the ultimate for CCW concealment. The louder and brighter the better. Nobody will want to look at you long enough to try and figgure out what might be printing. Also, as to the NRA mags, you can subscribe to them individually, so if you don't want to interrupt your current mag you needn't. |

Concealed Carry Magazine is a great magazine, and it is the official publication of the United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA). The magazine subscription alone is $24.00 for eight issues, but if you join the USCCA for $40.00 per year ($16.00 more) you get the membership and the magazine. The USCCA is a great up and coming organization and the magazine has outstanding articles regarding training, clothing, woman's issues, and many other great offerings. Here are links to the USCCA and CCM: United States Concealed Carry Association Concealed Carry Magazine There are some sample articles on the CCM homepage. I hope you like the magazine. |
I highly recommend the USCCA as well. I read the magazine cover to cover every time it shows up. It was easily worth the $40.00 membership. |
IMO I think that was one of the best CCM covers. Ya' really done good on that one Wolfie! ETA: And so did Alex and Reagan1.... |
Sounds like a great thing to do. I was thumbing through that very same issue at the last range gathering. Thanks for all the help! ETA: Whoo hooo, post # 556!
