Anyone have feedback on Clark County Credit Union?  They had a good last year.  But, they are not backed by the Federal Government, but by the American Share Insurance for up to $250,000 (150K more than the Feds).  After dropping BOA like a lead balloon, I will still need a local bank/cu and am looking for recommendations.

I know the CEO of CCCU, Wayne Tew. In fact, when I was in high school, he gave me a job for the summer cleaning their offices.

Anyways, he's a very bright fella and I'm not terribly surprised they are doing well. I know many people who've banked with them, including myslef, and they are as good an istitution you will find IMO. That's all the info I can offer though.

I have an account with CCCU, don't have anything negative to say about them.  Only bad thing about most any Credit union is that they have very few branches, that may or may not matter to you depending on how often you have to go to the bank.

I still have accounts at BOA and Washington Mutual, but CCCU is nothing short of fantastic. The down side is what BB has already pointed out... only five (?) branches, so you should factor this into your decision based on existing locations and the frequency of your required visits.

Great feedback guys.  I'll check out their ATM locations, which would be the major factor.

Another question, any recommendations for a bank with safety deposit box services?

We are about to use them for a property loan. They will loan 80% on property and the rates are fair.

thanks,
Ron

Only report I have on them is if the IRSS gets PO'ed at you for any reason (valid or imaginary) and they send the  CCCU anything stating they (IRSS) wants your "money" ...... POOF -- it's gone - no questions asked.. Of course, 99.9% of the regular banks will do the same... Ignorance is bliss.

There's a Wells Fargo on corner of Sunset/Eastern with a decent SDB setup......

For the amount of interest savings accounts yeild, makes you think twice about the ole fire retardant home safe.

I keep hearing a commercial for a safe deposit place, I think it is on Sunset west of pecos. It is not a bank, they don't take checks or credit cards so there is no paper trail, you get both keys to the box and you gain access to your box thru an eye scan. So IRS or anyone else tries to latch on to whats in your box they shouldn't be able to find it. Only draw back I could think of is if you died I assume no one would be able to get to the box.

It's been awhile, but I knew of an experience where a third party credit card bank was trying to collect on an ex's savings account.  Seems they can take the money from the savings but cannot touch the checking account.  So all funds were moved to the checking.
