what the effects would be for a Hoover damn breach? is the Las Vegas valley lower in elevation than the damn/Colorado river? |

Interesting question. If you believe suitcase nukes have been smuggled into this country, the Hoover dam would make a fine target. Especially after all the New Orleans images in the news lately. Another excellent target would be the LA aqueduct.  That's how the Germanic tribes finally stuck it to Rome...Can't answer your question, I'm up north. |
A breach/break in the Hoover Dam, located just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada would surely be a catastrophic event. Arizona would probably suffer the most damage and loss of life, with any other cities/communites downstream following suit. The elevation of Las Vegas, Nevada is approximately 2178 ft/664 m, and the level of Lake Mead as of August 2005, was approximately 1139.61 ft/347.353 m. Hope this helps. Be Safe. Joe |
