Does anybody know what Gander Mountain Deforest or Cabelas Sun Prairie charge to do a transfer?
I sold a pistol on Gun Broker and the buyer was bent out of shape about the transfer fee on my end. His FFL only accepts transfers from other FFL's. Wanted me to mail it to him no FFL, just UPS it, I said know, then claimed to be working in Law Enforcement. His email is for a security firm. My FFL does a great job and I think his fees are reasonable. He has a shop. The only person cheaper I know is a part timer who is difficult to track down. I looked the web sites, did exactly jump out at me. Any info would be helpful1 TIA, Tony

If you Gunbroker ad stated shipped from individual not an FFL, I'd tell him to take a leap.
If his FFL has a problem then "HE" needs to find another FFL. Your doing nothing wrong or illegal. Tell him to find an FFL on his end or pay up. It shouldn't cost you more because HIS FFL has problems. DO NOT SEND IT TO HIM DIRECTLY. Doesn't matter if the guy is a cop, secret service or FBI. SEND IT TO AN FFL ONLY. Selling a gun isn't worth going to jail. |

If that's the case, report his ass to Gunbroker about possibly being a restricted person. Or a member of the media working on a hit piece. |

He was a fast talker, sounded Mexican. Unfortunately, he started calling me at home.
I only stated that all fees are on the buyer. Normally, I just worry about shipping costs. There is a little "FFL" shield/icon next to user names. I have a ? mark. In the future, I will clearly state I don't have an FFL. I'll change my GB phone number to Microsoft Support or Planned Parenthood, Brady Campaign? Try as I might, I cannot find anything on line specific to using Cabelas or Gander for a third party transfer. I suppose I can just drop by and ask. Thanks, Tony |

Cabelas charges $50 or $75 depending on who you talk to!
"It's too much trouble" according to the training managers I talked to at the time. Checked in by one person, entered into the books by another person, someone to call you that it's in-may be the same person who enters it into books, maybe not; then someone to process the NICS stuff. That's the downside of not being a mom and pop size shop. I tell people to go on gun broker or gun genie or buds to look at their FFL listings to find someone local, and give a few examples that I know of. |

Thanks for the input!
I'm sticking with my FFL. Wish he wasn't in his 70's. Wish the young guy I know with the FFL didn't have 3 other businesses.. Seems to like music the most. From now on, I think I'll just sell handguns face to face. FYI, the fellow that started all this sounds like the "Worlds Most Interesting Man" from the Dos Equi? commercials. Even says "my friend". |

Gander or Cabelas are NOT the place to do a FFL transfer from. Go to your local gun store and pay $30 and be happy. If you want some suggestions on where to go, tell us what part of the state you are from. I have a couple of good suggestions for Southern Wis, but if you are in the East or far north, I have no ideas for you. |
