Seems quiet pretty around here as far as politics go.  I haven't been following the news in a while but noticed the Cap Times (yeah, I know) with the front page with "Burke Winning!!"

Heard some other gumblings about Walker needs to step it up, etc, etc.  Did people get what they wanted out of Walker and no more rallying support?  A little more that a month to go and I see there's very little politcal yard signs anywhere around here.  What's the word around the rest of the state?

I dunno, around the fox valley I see Walker support stuff all over, but I've yet to see a single pro-Burke sticker or sign.

I'm in Dane county and the only signs I've seen is one "Burke" and of course all the anti-walker chalk drawings on the sidewalks around the Capital.  Normally down here we get assaulted with the liberal agenda pretty heavily so it just seems oddly quiet on both sides.  Maybe people are still exhausted from all the recall crap.

Lots of pro Walker yard signs up north where I'm at. Quite a few of those huge "banner" type signs for both Walker and Sean Duffy.

Seen a handful of pro Burke signs too... mostly stuck in the ground on vacant land in the middle of nowhere (thinking the land owners don't know about them ).

I've seen a few Burke bumper-stickers... all on cars parked by the local schools.

Campus towns (as would be expected) are mostly all Burke with a few Walker signs here and there.
The more rural you get, the more Walker stuff you see.

This tactic has been perfected up here by the radical extremists from the local teachers union.

And the votes from Burke are going to come from people whose address corresponds to those vacant lots. (Hopefully Voter ID will take care of that though).

I was just thinking to myself that things really are quiet -- not like the last two.  It is odd and scary.

Amazing (and again, scary) that she polls like she does considering no one has seen her.

Spread the word, I don't know that Walker will have the same turn-out this time.  Not changes in vote but not the "urgency" to get people out.

Here's what I think. She polls the way she does simply because of the "D" after her name. I'd wager more than half of those that eventually vote for her aren't voting for Mary Burke the candidate, but for Mary Burke the opponent of Scott Walker. IOW, their hate for Walker and the Repubs in general, would see them voting for any Liberal the D party puts up there. They're voting for ideology, not the person. She could be the wicked witch who eats newborns, and the party faithful would fall in line to vote for her. And just like Obama, she cannot run on her past accomplishments, because she has none.

This pretty much nails it. Never mind that she's a 1%er, never mind that she sent trek jobs overseas. Nevermind that she's been caught plagarizing at least 4 times in her campaign so far. Never mind that she was an doyle flunky and did nothing to improve the state while so.  She has a D after her name, that's all that matters to some.

I've seen 1 burke, and 1 Walker sign on main street where I live, but there were plenty of signs for "breakfast with progressive socialist candidates" for last weekend. Generally speaking "statistical dead heats" in the polls favor Republicans, because we're like... "at work and stuff" and don't answer random numbers calling our phones.

It's closer than I'm comfortable with, however with the general antipathy for Obama/Democrats nationwide, the Act 10 battle being pretty much a lost cause/done-deal for the Left (Mary ain't going to touch it even if she did win, and the GOP controlled legislature wasn't in the way...) is all going to cause a large enthusiasm gap on the part of the Left.

I figure the high water mark for opposition was the Recall election, and if they couldn't pull it off then with the Mayor of Milwaukee, and every Leftard group and political slush fund gunning for Walker, a no-name cipher like Mary, I don't think her chances look very good.  Real world results the end of the day, not the polls.

Plus voter ID is going to close the fraud gap somewhat.

And hell, I actually WISH there was a real "voter suppression" component to ID, like the Leftards are always claiming. The basic premise behind Act 10 was that it's insanity that .gov workers should be allowed to organize against the people/taxpayers. I don't see why that logic does not extend to the non-productive/welfare class who lives off of public largess being able to vote for more being a similar conflict of interest.

Walker stepped it up....or maybe stepped in it.....today  Mexican Consulate brings ID services to Wisconsin

APPLETON, Wis. (AP) – Wisconsin officials are working to better serve the rapidly growing Hispanic community in the state, with a little help from the Mexican Consulate in Chicago.

A mobile version of the Chicago-based office issued passports and consular identification cards to hundreds of Mexican nationals at an Appleton church last week, Post-Crescent Media reported. About 800 people took advantage of the services at First English Lutheran Church from last Wednesday to Saturday, according to Alfredo Gomez Sepulveda, a coordinator of the consulate’s mobile program.

About once a month, the mobile office visits a Wisconsin city to renew Mexican passports and consular identification cards, saving thousands of people from having to take a trip to Chicago. The consulate has served more than 9,900 Mexican nationals so far in 2014 by offering services in Appleton, Beloit, Green Bay, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Racine and Waukesha, according to Sepulveda.

“It’s more than a three-hour trip to Chicago and the passport is the primary form of ID. So it’s a service that the Chicago consulate provides … to attend to Mexican nationals over here,” Sepulveda said.

The consulate also serves Mexican nationals living in northern Illinois and Indiana.

Gov. Scott Walker met with Mexican Undersecretary Sergio Alcocer on Friday to discuss opening a consulate in Milwaukee.

“It was a positive meeting and we’ll continue to work with them collaboratively as we move forward with the process,” said Laurel Patrick, the governor’s press secretary.

In a letter to the president of Mexico last year, Walker used the mobile program to illustrate the state’s need for a permanent site.

“This mobile service is greatly appreciated, but the fact that the consulate in Chicago has recognized the growing demand for their services and has developed a mobile consulate demonstrates the need for another consulate in the Midwest,” Walker told President Enrique Peña Nieto.

Sepulveda said negotiations for a permanent office in Wisconsin have begun and more details may emerge next year.

“It’s a process that’s very advanced and there might be more concrete news for 2015, when there’s a very good chance that the Mexican consulate for Wisconsin will be opening in 2015, but that’s still in process,” he said.

More than 6 percent of Wisconsin’s population identifies as Hispanic or Latino, according to U.S. Census Bureau data from 2013.

They seem to be trying to hammer Scott on only creating 100,000 jobs instead of 250,000

Walker's people should capitalize on this and use it against them to the effect of

"100,000 is better than none and 250,000 might have had a chance of happening if I wasn't forced to re-run for Governor when I had so much work to do."

You know the left is desperate when they call in markers from the Liberals on the Supreme Court.  It's unlikely that they are actually interested in hearing a case about voter Id.  It's not like any of them will change their previous votes on the same topic, but it does allow them to cheat one more time.  Ultimately the law probably stands as it is.
10/10/2014 1:02:45 AM EDT
[#24]
From what I'm understanding, the vacate of stay is temporary, for this election only (unless they decide to hear the case), because absentee ballots have already been sent out before the stay that allowed voter ID to be used.

The vacate of stay will stay in place if the USSC decides to hear the case, which is highly unlikely, since they ruled the Indiana voter ID law Constitutional, and those laws are similar to WI's.

So yes, it was a political hack job in attempt to screw with state races. The fact that the liberals appealed to kagan, a lawyer with no judicial experience and nominated by Obama (probably in return for working on obamacare in lower courts), says a lot.

The ads trashing Walker are almost non stop here suddenly. Gotten so bad, we won't watch local news now, until this election is over. Virtually EVERY commercial is another advocacy group paid ad, trashing Walker.  The anti-Walker / pro Burke TV ads are a 10-1 majority for the past week. If you believe those ads, Walker's responsible for the black plague, the sinking of the Titanic, the dust bowl of the 1930s, the Holocaust, Custer's Last Stand, & the melting polar ice caps... and Mary Burke is the 2nd coming of the Messiah who will right all the wrongs. The ads want you to believe Walker HATES farmers, seniors, students, teachers, children, women, the environment, middle-class, dogs, cats, horses, and everyone who isn't a "millionaire buddy".  The dumbest of them all claims Walker wants to sell WI farmland to the Chinese Govt, so his real estate pals can make big commissions. I didn't know Walker owned that much farmland.

I thought he held his own didn't really attack much other than to lump her in with Doyle. Deck was definitely stacked against him with a moderator taking questions from five liberal panel members. Pretty much every question was loaded against Walker. Things like: Mr governor your on record supporting a ban on all abortions, do you still support a ban on all abortions?

LOL!

I see a lot of Pro-D & R signage around here. Lines are drawn in the sand no doubt. I want to ask every Pro-D'er if they hate the Constitution... & the Rights it guarantees. Because, well, isn't it obvious?

I was surprised by the voting turnout from around here for Walker during the recall. Seemed that all the D harassment sent some over the fence & drummed up more that didn't vote. Not what they expected.

Kinda reminded me of trying to push a horse in the mud... funny to watch to say the least cause Oh boy were they in a tizzy. Now that things related to the teachers union & insurance has had time for the smoke to clear, quite a few teachers & administration officials have changed their tune. They are telling me their insurance is better & cheaper than when controlled by the unions. Some still have certain issues with pay & budgeting but it seems they understand that the community just can't support it at the moment. The budgets had to get reigned in & fast. Our school district has seen budget cuts of some departments of over 60%. Our school district tried for a referendum for increased funding & it was voted down. They are being forced to make due with what we can give. Can't get blood out of a turnip & bank rolling it has become a sore spot for residents & parents.

We still have an issue of job creation relating to substantial industry in this area. So much focus on tourism as a means of economic growth but the models for that type of subsidiary spending is largely seasonal & only marginally beneficial.
