How much water does one of those use to make a cut like that? This machine runs at 1.2 gallons per minute, so it uses roughly 1.8 gallons to cut 1 opener. That's just the flow through the cutting head, the pump also uses 3 to 4 gpm for cooling water. Abrasive (crushed garnet), runs at .8 pounds per minute, so that adds up to around 1.2 pounds of that per opener. In a day's time, we use quite a bit of water and abrasive. |

I know the flow is variable, but what most people don't know is that it is a mixture of water and sand that do the cutting, and not just water. Quoted:

Can you reclaim teh garnet via a filter or something, or is it use and lose? It's possible to reclaim it, but it's not cost effective. |
