Since I don't believe I've ever seen them mentioned here, I figured I'd make a quick post about my experiences with TyCor Defense, an FFL01 in Milwaukee (City of Milwaukee, mind you). Back in the fall of 2012, I bought a PSL receiver online for a build. Rather than using my previous FFL (who has always been great, but is rather far away), I figured I'd try to expand my horizons and see what might be a little more local. I actually checked the ATF's list of licensees, and to my surprise, there was a fairly new licensee in my own zip code (I imagined that it must require an act of Congress to get an FFL within the city proper), which was TyCor. I filled out their online form for transfers, provided the seller with their info, and waited a few days. I then got a voicemail from TyCor saying that my item had arrived, and to please contact them to schedule a time for pickup.
Much to my delight, I found that TyCor is the very definition of a kitchen table dealer. Marty and Valerie are friendly, accommodating, and pretty much everything you'd ever want to have in a neighborhood FFL. I (and the various friends that I've sent to TyCor) have purchased multiple guns through/from them since, and it's always been the same overwhelmingly positive experience. I regularly spend far more time than anticipated just chatting - a while back when picking up a gun, I mentioned I was interested in getting a SCAR17, but had never actually held one. Marty gets a twinkle in his eye, says 'wait right here', runs to his safe, and brings back his own personal SCAR17 to let me try out, and shows how to field strip it, etc. Last year, TyCor got an SOT and became a dealer for a few lines of suppressors - so I bought a few Liberty cans through them (they're now a dealer) and now it's just the NFA waiting game. Disclaimer: I have zero connection to TyCor Defense other than being a delighted customer. If you're in the 53223 zip code (or nearby), give them a try on your next transfer, can purchase, or whatever. They're the sort of old-fashioned, personable dealer that I thought was all but extinct. http://www.tycordefense.com/ |
