Anyone hear this guy's rant against a State-Wide rifle season?  Ignorance at its finest...

http://www.belling.com/media/play/23874145/

The tirade begins at around 2:20

.
.
.
According to him, we can't trust the half-in-the bag hunters.  We can't trust the Milwaukee and Illinois hunters who are going to shoot off rounds as fast as they can.  Hunters just blast and see what they can hit.      There are sniper rifles which are way more powerful than the normal deer hunters.  Deer hunters in the north are using less powerful rifles than the hunters in the southern part of the State.   Nobody needs a rifle.  If you need a rifle to shoot a deer, you do not belong in the woods.

I'm pretty sure he's the most-listened to talk show host in the Midwest, including the Chicagoland area.  He's 80% right, and 20% authoritarian asshole.  He also is an entertainer, and his tirades are part of his persona.  He does a great service to all of us most of the time, but when he misses the mark, he's WAAAAAAAY off.  And when he gets going, he is not a reasonable person; trying to explain what a sabot round is or how exterior/terminal ballistics work would be akin to teaching the proverbial pig to dance.

He has NO understanding of firearms or hunting culture, as he has proven time and again during his CCW discussions (he doesn't understand that cops are generally not gun guys and often not very good with their firearms).

He's not on the air in my area... at least not that I know of. Only 1 talk radio show I can pick up (besides NPR on FM), and it's on AM (950AM from Eagle River). It's a conservative station for sure... they've got Beck in the AM (8-11), then Rush (11-2), then Hannity (2-5), and just recently they've added Vicki McKenna after Hannity, from 5pm to 8pm, then Mark Levin.  I've got Sirius in my work truck and I listen to Patriot Channel or NFL Network all day while driving from job to job. Patriot on Sirius has Beck, then Wilkow (my fav, and a "real" gun guy), then Hannity, then Levin. Never heard of the guy, but he sounds like an ass-hat.

I usually listen to him, at least for a while.
He is frequently right, but often a motor-mouthed, pompous ass.

If you follow the NRA rules for safe gun handling, there is no problem:

#1 Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
#2 Always keep youor finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
#3 Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.
#4 Know your target and what is beyond.

Notice that there is no qualification on rule 4. It doesn't matter if it is a shotgun, rifle or handgun.
If you follow these rules (and the others) there is no problem no matter what kind of gun youo are hunting with.

This... exactly this.

I remember listening to him around '96 or so while ranting about one of the first high profile online CP/child enticement cases in the news. He was swearing up and down, that "He knew besides Compuserve and AOL there was a company called 'Internet', he remembered seeing their stock ticker symbol..."

Tons of callers that LIKED HIM were trying to explain to him that "the Internet" was just the sum total of all the computer networks, commercial, government, educational etc. all connected together and he wouldn't believe them.

His occasional flubs are worth putting up with though, I'm pretty convinced that he, and to a lesser degree Charlie Sykes and Jeff Wagner on WTMJ 1130, has kept SE WI in play for Conservatives, and WI from going completely libtard blue. Mainly because the whole linkage between cars and radio is keeping the people who work for a living informed on issues the Left-biased  papers and TV news won't cover.

He's on WSAW from time to time...filling in for rush. (550AM.99.9FM). Probably doesn't reach your area though.... they're a bit lower powered. I can get WTMJ 620AM better than 550AM most days. Kinda sad.

Clearly, you need a bigger antenna.

You know how AM is. I can pick up 550AM clearly only after dark, or occasionally on an overcast day.... hell, I can pick up WGN 720 from Chicago after dark. Day time there's so much static, & interference from power lines along the main roads, it's too aggravating to even try to listen.

But as bad as the radio reception is up north, it's still 1000% better than the "new digital" TV situation. Without satelite, I would'nt even bother owning a TV. All I can get is 12 from Rhinelander (NBC.... sucks) and 34, which is same as 9 (ABC... sucks also) from Wausau (34 transmits from Three Lakes). New digital antenna on tower, power booster, etc., is needed just to get those 2.  And when it's windy, it comes & goes.

Ugh. I'm about to undertake that myself. We live in podunk, but manage to have cable piped over DSL from the local telco. Expensive as hell, and our contract ended. So we're contemplating putting up an antenna. We're right in the middle of Wausau, Appleton, Green Bay, and Madison. I have a feeling we won't get shit, but there's only one way to find out. I guess I already have a decent collection of antennas... what's one more?

I get him on IHeartradio, it's free and you can get any station you want, for the most part.  Then I hook it into my car audio and can listen to them on my commute.  I also set it up for listening at home through and audio line in to an old boom box.

You should get great reception with a 30 foot tower. Just sayin'  And yeah, trying to get digitial TV reception sucks. Even in Waukesha, getting some of the Milwaukee stations can be hit-or-miss.

It'll be 50-60 feet when I'm done. Hardest part is getting the hole dug! lol....was planning on doing it this spring, but the wife is due in April. So... yeah....we'll see how long it takes. I'll probably have to trim some trees as well to ensure I have room for the boom to rotate.

If that's the case, I can at least count on Wausau and Green Bay. And if you get Madison, there's a good chance I might pull that off as well. You using any sort of  pre-amp, or just a standand antenna/rotator setup?

just a standard aerial and rotor.
