Hey guys,
Does anyone know where to get a full size (20-24 cubic ft) chest freezer or what brands to avoid? I had one set up to buy from a home foreclosure but it fell through. I am looking to get one probably around the beginning of November so I have time to look and research if necessary. Thanks in advance. |

My wife has been looking at them at Menards. Decent prices.
But I haven't pulled the trigger on one yet... the big Kenmore upright we have is still working great (knock on wood). It was a house-warming gift from her mother, when we bought our 1st house.... in 1974. |

prefer an upright myself. Very little digging and "forgotten foods" compared to a chest freezer.
we've got a Kenmore, not totally trouble free. It stopped working this past winter, moved all the foods to the fridge freezers. Couldn't "dig it out" to look at it until last week, turned out to be a compressor start relay. $12 for the part and back in business. But better than paying $500 for a new one of the same size. |

I've had great luck with used stuff off Craig's List.
Otherwise for new stuff, I've been using Home Depot as they usually are cheaper than Best Buy or American and also offer free delivery and haul away. For those of you with freezers and fridges over 15 years old, you might want to find out how much power they are using. The new freezers could pay for themselves in a few years due to the vastly decreased energy costs. Plus most are frost free. |

I'd stay away from a chest freezer. Just get a nice upright- its sooo much easier to see what you have and get out what you want. Unless you're just going to fill it with 300lbs of brats so no matter you grab, you'll always have what you want :-) Just my $0.025.
