I have a sewage ejector pump in my basement right next to my sump pump. I moved in back in may and never heard it run until a couple days ago. Now its running every 15 minutes for a few minutes. All my plumbing is above where the main line leaves the house and bypasses the ejector pump. There is one line that goes into the pit and its comming from my sink/dishwasher area, when I run the sink the water comes through the other pipe comming from the same location going to the main sewer line. I did a little searching online and found that maybe the check valve is leaking but dont have a shut off valve after the check valve to test that. Any ideas? Im going to open it up tonight after work.
The cover on the pit also feels warm. |

It sounds like your check valve is stuck. take off the cover (of the crock) and watch it after it runs, if the crock is filling back up and not from your drain line, the check valve is stuck. This can be waste water from your whole house coming back into it (which would explain the constant running) as normally a sewage pump is hooked up directly to the main line.

| I think something is wrong with the pump. I left it all hooked up and popped it open, full of water. I waited till it kicked on and the water didnt budge. The float looks like its all the way up, the pump runs but doesnt pump water. The water inside is warm. I think the pump must be running till it overheats then shuts off. |
