| I have Roadrunner Basic, its only 3Mb but its all I need. Problem is I'm paying $60/mo after modem rental, WiFi, and tax. I don't have or want cable or a landline, so bundling is out. Wouldn't actually save me money anyway, I would just have more services I don't need. What other options are out there for inexpensive non-dialup internet? |
| If a provider is renting the modem to you, just buy your own. I did that and it paid itself off in 6 months. As for inexpensive, I think charter has some decent prices if you want pretty fast speeds. If all you are doing is surfing the web, i'd go with att(their lowest price is like $20/month, but that's only for the first year or so). |

Do you have Charter available in your area? I'm sure someone will be along shortly to complain about them, but running my own DOCSIS 2.0 modem and only having their internet service, I get 30Mbps down/2Mbps up.
Prepare to get deluged in mail and phone calls trying to get you to upgrade to bundles, though
I don't answer calls I'm not expecting, so YMMV with how annoying it is to you. |
| AT&T Uverse, Time Warner, TDS and Charter would be available in SE Wisconsin depending on where you live. Most basic plans start around $30-$40 so you would be seeing $20 savings at most. Verizon has devices that use their LTE network for internet. You have to sign up for just a data plan but there are limits so if you are a heavy user then it wouldnt be for you. My father in law had to go that route because he built his new house in an area where internet or phone services hadnt been installed yet. |
