Rules do say ANY rifle correct...............

That is the way I am reading it. I am also assuming that this must still be shot unsupported (The rifle may not be resting on any artificial support,. The mag resting on your hand which is laying flat on the bench is just one example of artificial support) Hee hee hee....there are no benches on the trap range. Only crunchy grass, thistles, burrs and fire ants. A good seated position is the best you're gonna get. |

Rules do say ANY rifle correct............... ![]() Hey, we told you in the last meeting.... leave the secret squirrel rail gun/plasma rifle @ home. You remember what happened the last time you plugged that effin' thing in out there with the extension cords... Too many witnesses this time! We just barely got our asses out of there before the MIB showed up last time. Damn dude... OPSEC !!! ![]() ![]()

So use a sling. Sure, sling up and have at it ! ummmmmm..... what do you all think of a sling in the dueling trees? I recommend it.. |

I was under the impression that we were going to move some benches over to the rifle comp, so people could sit, just not support. Wasn't aware, but that's OK, too! 4H benches from the small bore range? Damn, I was kinda liking the whole pickers and crunchy grass thing. Maybe next year we could go all "Red Dawn" and dig spider holes with camouflaged trap doors. When the start buzzer goes off the shooters pop up, give their best primal scream and start shooting... WOVERINES !!!!!!!
Well OK, maybe not. Too much soda last night....

Next, people are going to want benches for the handgun dueling tree too... I do not recall this discussion. Perhaps it was at one of the planning meetings? Like I said before, it certainly was not "easy" to clear the targets from the bench last year. I suppose the benches give people a better chance if they are not accustomed to shooting without one We just really need to watch that nobody is resting mags, etc on the bench. |

Shooting glove ok if I don't sling up? I kinda have a way of using the mag as a sling. As long as the rifle isn't artificially resting on anything solid to maintain a steady position hold. Slings are OK because they provide for a steady hold on the rifle itself and are not actually supporting the rifle. I guess the best determination would be to see you hold the rifle in a ready position. I can see where even the seated position we teach in Appleseed could be an issue since locking your elbows into your kness while seated cross-legged makes for a very steady tripod effect. Although, shifting your NPOA up and down the tree paddles quickly might nullify much of that effect. Damn, now I got myself all curious and might have to try that out just to see how it would work... I'd bet Interceptor-Knight has already tried it because he's already hinting the kneeling position. |

I can assure you that sitting is not a "supported" position so long as the mag is not supported and the person does not lean so far forward that the elbows are touching the ground. Many people would be screwed in a sitting position because of the rapid NPOA changes. A shooting glove is not an unfair advantage either. Quoted:

Resting the mag on your body like a monopod including your hand with your elbow supported is a supported position. I can't picture "like a sling". I have seen people grab the front of the mag or wrap their arm around it with some success. |

I thought we were only providing benches for the competitors who weren't shooting to have a place to sit while they wait. |
