Just don't know when for sure. I need to find a job up there first. Wife is from the Sauk City area. What are the pros and cons? (i know it gets cold.)

I moved down to TX from WI. I miss WI, it's a great place, if you can get away from the Milwaukee/Madison SE corridor of Illinoisdom. I like TX better, but in WI almost every county has a very low cost rifle range, and there are numerous long ranges to choose from. It's actually quite pro-gun, pro-hunting, and pro-shooting. In many ways, more so than TX.
It's cold - but in truth, I'll take a WI winter over a TX summer. But what does this have to do with HK? |

Last time I was in TX it was 110+ and our hotel ac had broken Couldn't really tell much more then that that doesn't quite happen in WI. From what I googled about your wife's hometown, I'd stay farther away from Madison. (havn't lived there just heard the horror stories from others: they try to prosecute for open carry (DC charge) even though its Illigal etc.) Where I have went around EC area, and 50 Mile radius, no one has even commented about my open carry past asking what kind of .45 it was. Even police officers, one even thanked me for carrying. |

Sauk county has some of the best motorcycling roads in teh state. And if we're lucky, one of the largest public ranges in the state

Depending on your line of work, there are plenty of jobs up here for skilled laborers (especially welders/machinists, etc.). Don't be too afraid of the Milwaukee area, as it is such a small metroplex that travel times through or around it aren't too bad relative to most large US cities. Sauk City is a very pretty area, and is the home of Culvers Custard.
Hey, now that I think of it, wasn't the first out-of-state Culvers in TX? I'm 99% that's the case. |

Welcome to Wisconsin- You are going to get fat, Freeze 9mo, and get a bad back from shoveling snow Im moving to the Carolinas ASAPCome on down, I made the jump from Watertown, WI about three years ago and I don't miss shoveling snow at 4:00 AM just to get out of the driveway. If you come this way though, remember that infant rat snakes look just like little copperheads. First spring here I had one coiled up in the bathroom and it wasn't damn funny. |

Open carry and chili with beans No beans here! Don't live in Dane, Milwaukee, Racine, or Kenosha counties, too many damn liberals.
There's a few outposts of conservatives in those areas...it's a losing battle, but we try to do our part. :( Yeah well, this outpost is moving, the fucking liberals can have their street back and the God Damn Zoo too (Racine). Who the fuck really cares if our 6 pound cat goes down and runs around in the rhino pen? The rhinos? If the place was not full of rats to begin with she would not be in there killing them and bringing them home to us. If the cat dies, she dies, she is half wild and has to be outside. So now we call the cat Dances with Rhinos and we are counting the days to being gone from this place. |

I'm north of Elkhorn, in Walworth County and about 6 miles from McMiller Sports Center(the range often mentioned in threads in the Wi. hometown forum). I like it well enough, but if I could relocate to any area in the state, it would probably be closer to the Prairie Du Chien/Viroqua area (west of Sauk City, but not too far). Beautiful country over there and generally good people. I also like it way up north, but it's too cold and snowy for too long for my liking and there are a lot of liberal transplants, not to mention the job scene in the north woods isn't particularly good.
Statewide Pros- Rural areas are generally pretty conservative. Beautiful greenery. Hunting and fishing opportunities abound. A lot of beautiful state parks and national forest. Statewide Cons- Constant neck-and-neck battle for the state with the liberals that congregate in Madison, Milwaukee and a number of other areas. It gets cold. Deer ticks Overall, I like it. Certainly better than our retarded neighbor to the south. (I grew-up in Illinois, and moved here 12 years ago).

Im up in Burnett County, Far far away from the libtard cities.
Not a whole lot for good jobs but lots and lots of public land, hunting, fishing, trapping, and free shooting ranges. Another big plus is all the lakes around have many cabins that are owned by folks from the Minneapolis/St. Paul MN so there are lots of women to gawk at ![]() |

I must be in the minority. I move up here 7 years ago from the Schertz area and miss it like mad. The food, southern hospitality, and the cost of living are the top 3 things I can think of......but food is at the top of the list...oh what I would do for a good breakfast taco.
Then there is that December to March...ish time frame when you don't see much of your neighbors unless y'all are both shoveling the drive way. The folks here on AR15 are great, but there is only so much computer time a person can take. That being said, you get out of it what you put into it. We have made some life long friends that we keep trying to convince to move south with us when we do :) Again, just to be clear, not knocking WI, just saying there is a big difference. Best of luck with your move. |

There are lots of winter activities around here in the dead of winter. |

The bright side is that in the years I've been here, we haven't had two 100 degree days in a row. You win some you loose some. Make nice with the Artic Cat. |

Yes, but you look at what the rest of the country has, and realize we have alot of water to compensate for it. Comparatively speaking, summer doesn't much hurt. |
