I've been to McMillers a few times, range officers are super anal about rapid fire. Other than that it's a great place to shoot.
Anyone know of any ranges that have at least a 100 yard range that wont yell at you for doing double taps, etc? I'm near Milwaukee. |

I've never had a problem at Daniel Boone, I've even done a couple mag dumps. That said, I'm there during the week and am typically alone or only have one or two other guys on the range. It's one thing to spray and pray, another thing to double tap or rapidly fire accurately...
PM me if you want to check it out sometime, I can take visitors along. I only go during the week though... |
If I had a RDIAS or M16 the first thing I'd do is go to McMillers and let'er rip
Wisc Sportsmans is the last range I went to, big yellow sign that said "SLOW FIRE ONLY" but the guys staffing the range seemed pretty cool with a little higher rate of fire. It was the first time there so I didn't want to leave a bad first impression. I'll take a look at RCLRC. |

I went to McMiller when I first moved to Madison, then found out about Yellowstone after attending a Frozen Nuts shoot.
I only go to Yellowstone now, because it's half the distance from me and no range Nazis yelling at me for sending multiple rounds downrange in short bursts (though I did have one bystander look at me once and tell me that "that's illegal" after mag dump through a .22LR AR Pistol)

Given the political and legal climate of the country, I see more ranges/clubs
clamping down. It is sometimes good, sometimes bad. It all depends if you have an anal retentive control freak in charge or not. (So far we do not, and calmer, more rational minds have prevailed) The club I belong to is having some problems, and has gone ahead and installed a camera system. This is due to the fact of so many people (who have been convinced by lawyers) who sue ranges/clubs for a variety of reasons. Along with the access control system we also have, we can figure out who was at our range, and when. This is going to be useful (I hope) in catching the moron who is deliberately shooting at our concrete retaining wall and damaging it. It can also be used to show that if anything else happens, it was not one of our members who was responsible. (Hopefully) What we all need to remember is this: WE represent the rest of the gun owners, and if we do something stupid and/or dangerous, we will be used as a reason to ban ownership completely. It only makes matters worse if you have owned a gun for a long period of time, or are a firearms instructor. They will say that if we can't use guns safely and/or properly, how can the average person do so? So we all need to think before we act. |

I'm a Boone guy too. I love our place. I agree with this poster and his last paragraph. It's all common sense around there. People are friendly, and as long as you are safe, observe the range rules, and are courteous to other shooters you'd have no problem. |
