Agreed.  I hate this.  As a former New Yorker (and glad im out now for many reasons...)... Pizza cut in squares drives me insane.  I hate it, and complain every time I see it.  Life Long WI people think im totally batshit crazy, but whatever... its just wrong.

I consider it one of the little charms of living in this fine state. I love that little corner cut.

Square cut pizza blows unless you get a piece with crust on it. Never realized it was a WI only thing though, I just figured the cutter was some sort of sadist when its happened to me.

Dude, they do this shit world wide.  I think the original idea was it helped liberal arts majors divide up the pizza equally, since math is not their thing.  My Lab likes it as it is one of the few human food treats she gets.  Some of those outer edges with no goodies on them.

I've always known that to be called "Chicago Cut".   Why? I have no idea, but the name does lend itself well to blaming Illinois for it.

You are confusing that with Sicilian Necktie "cut".

The science behind it is that you have a manageable size portion. With the triangle you bite the narrow end of the triangle and pull all the hot cheese and toppings off which land on your chin and burn both your tongue and chin simultaneously. But then some people feel if there's no pain there's no gain.

I can't really think of any negative thing about pizza, especially Luigi's in Shawano and Stevi B's in Appleton. Also like Papa Murphy's for bake at home. Had Christianos in Wautoma which I thought was good as well. Hell, I like all pizza.

I typically don't like it that way, but it seems if you order thin crust in Racine, that's the way you get it.  It does work well if you're feeding a bunch of kids, though.  Seems they make less of a mess that way.

Not Wisconsin specific at all.  Big pizza chain in Nebraska takes the nutty cake on this one.  Order a large pizza during lunch, and it's sliced regular...order one for dinner and it's squares!

They do squares at lunch so they can sell by the slice.   I asked them once why they don't sell by the slice for dinner and got a very confused look.....

Square cuts on a circular pizza do suck, but on square they rule!

Worked well when I was growing up. It was much easier to get some when my brothers were stuffing their faces with multiple small pieces.

First encountered this when a sicilian family moved to town and opened a pizza joint. They always cut them in squares. Seemed more fill that way when you were sharing with buddies. Best pizza ever. Too bad they moved back (or so I heard). Haven't had any quite as good.

There is nothing wrong with it but I admit there are some pizzas that belong cut one way and others as squares.

For example, Rocky Rococo pizza belongs as square pieces, period.  Good thin crust does well that way because it doesn't sag and what not as you work a small piece.

Those little bits are magic.

We moved to the Fox Valley area 1.5 years ago and we like it in squares.  As a kid in Elkhart, IN there were a few pizza shops that cut it that way as well.
We like it so well, we cut my wife's pizzas in squares as well.  In our house the squares have it!

A true Sicilian pie squares or rectangles.  I've yet to see a "real" Sicilian pie since leaving NY.  I'm not a fan of square cut round pies.
All the others pie slices or "triangles."  If its a Neapolitan pie - thin crust, roll the damn thing up and eat it!
A nice hand tossed fold it, and eat it.  No mess no fuss.

Seven Lakes Golf Course in Whitelaw has some of the best pizza in Manitowoc County. Plus, on Tuesday-Thursday, it's all you can eat for $5.95. Not some shit buffet either, you order the pizza that you want and they bring it direct to your table.

They do cut it into squares though, so you square cut haters beware.

Wild Tomato up in Fish Creek is another favorite of mine as well.

Wild Tomato is awesome.  We always make it a point to eat there when we go up.  The first time we went we made the mistake of sitting inside though during the summer.  Wait for a table outside!  Its not air conditioned and its a wood fired oven cooked in a single room place.  Hot was an understatement.

On the short list.  Need a reason to go to Sheboygan.  Like "because it is Thursday".

This sucks.  I see at least four or five pizzas to try.  That's not right -- ordering 5 pizzas in one visit.

While I prefer the triangle style cut of pizza, sometimes you have to go squares depending on the size of the pie.
