I just built a long-range rifle, it's a Rem 700 5R MilSpec in 300 Win mag. I put it into an AICS chassis system and am putting a Vortex Razor HD scope or Night Force scope on it.

The question is... I want a suppressor for it and I am looking at the SureFire line of suppressors. They appear to be the best money can buy and was wondering if anyone has one that I could shoot? I would pay you for your time, but I'd love to hear it and see it in action before spending the money to get one.

Let me know! :)

If you dont have a SureFire but have something equal, I'd be interested in seeing that as well!

Thanks guys!

I don't have any 7.62 cans so I can't let you shoot one, but I have fired them and Surefire's 5.56 cans.  In all the shooting and research I have done, currently AAC and Silencerco (no .308 from them) have the quietest cans you can get.  In my opinion, just like their flashlights, their suppressors are overpriced.

Go check out the suppressor section and silencertalk.com.  They have a bunch of smart people that can help you more than me.

I really like SilencerCo but was disappointed they dont make a 308 suppressor.

The main reason I was looking at SureFire is because I really like their muzzle brake and having that tight integration seemed nice since I dont believe any of the others will work with that.

I know their stuff is a little higher priced, but I've never been disappointed in their quality. I have had tons of their flashlights and was always impressed by the quality and function.

I am looking at AAC as well, but have never seen or fired their products firsthand so I wasnt sure.

Is it 300 Win Mag rated?

There quality is good and I don't think you would be disappointed with the for or function if you bought one.  I think the reason the Marienes went with Shurefire is because they had the lowest POI shift on multiple hosts.  You mentioned their break, which is very nice, are you planning on sometimes shooting unsuppressed?

No, you would need a 300-TM or MK-13 SD.

Yes, I would be shooting both suppressed and un-suppressed. I was looking at AAC, they have a Titan-QD, 2k for the suppressor. Looks to be pretty good and is what the Army snipers are using now too.

Any thoughts on the SureFire vs AAC Titan-QD?

Dang, I was hoping it was.

I'm in the same boat as DavidK, looking at going the SureFire route as well.

If money were not an option and I were not planning on running it on a 300blk SBR I would get a titan.  AAC has better quality and performance.  Also you don't loose any performance running 300 with the 338 bore:

ETA: Check these guys for priceing on whatever you decide on:  http://www.silencershop.com/  They are a site sponsor and MSRPs are always astronomically high.

I went through the .mil AARs and finite data available to me and found, Gemtech's HVT-QD, as the overall best 7.62 caliber performace and troop satisfaction. I did not remember what the other models placed but went with it regardless. KAC and Surefire placed top 3. I can't remember which order.

Even though the troop does not spend money on the item, he does have an extensive exposure to the item and has the opportunity to put his $.02 in with it's fielded performance.

It is why I bought that HVT model from Prebans...still waiting on it...LOL.

I can answer some questions I remember but can only get access to the AARs through a CAC card .mil computer. I usually have access/use one at my VA appointments.

The top issues I remember:

- Ease of use on/off in austere conditions (darkness, etc).
- Ability to attach in dirty condition.
- Deviation of round impact/spread at 200-500 M.
- First round pop decibel level.
- Maintenance
- Mount compatability (I can shoot my 5.56 M4 through the 7.62 HVT with bilock)

Hope this helps.  I bought mine to put on my M1A EBR, KAC SR25 ECC and Steyr Scout.

I haven't looked at Gemtech's 7.62 cans.  Have you had any conjugal visits?

I do not know. It was listed under standard ball M80, special ball M118/LR, match M852, ap M933, tracer M62 and dim trace M276 ammunition.

Even though you are not supposed to use tracer ammo it was listed. I am sure you could consider it a combat waiver.

Its a really good suppressor and it better be cuz its on the pricier end.  The qd function is nice since it lets her use it on her savage and i can also use it on my bcm carbine.   Its pretty quiet with the bolt gun definately hearing safe.  Sounds like slightly qiue 22lr rifle.  All you really get is the supersonic crack.

My wife shot her first ever buck with her rifle using the surefire can in texas this december.   96 yard heart shot head on.  Dropped where it was standing.

Don't discount the YHM Ti 762Phantom - only 14oz, and one of the better attachment mechanisms in that all the moving parts are replaceable for $70 (the muzzle device).  5.56/7.62 mount compatible, and half the price of the SF.  POI shift is meaningless - why would anyone with a can shoot without it?  Worst case, so long as the shift is consistent (it will be) just get your dope both ways.

There are better metering cans than the YHM out there, so don't take this as an end-all-be-all recommendation, but don't discount it.
