I've recently relocated to Chicago from the west coast and am looking forward to checking out Milwaukee in the next few months. The girlfriend and I will probably drive up for a long weekend in the spring. Is there anything we should see or do? Where should we stay in town? We like to eat and drink in dive bars and fine dining establishments, so all recommendations will be helpful. Are there any regional breweries that we should check out?

Thanks

"Safe House" bar / grill is quite entertaining.

The botanical gardens ("domes") are cool.

There is a lot of WI that is more interesting (and safer!) than Milwaukee.  Why not find some other part of WI to visit? (Most of Chi area already comes to WI to recreate, why not join them?)

The harley muesum and hotel are pretty cool, Lakefront brewerey has good food and a nice tour if your into micro/ craft brews. There are many things to do and see in milwaukee your only limited by your time and budget.

Dive bars you say? You'll do just fine on this side of DMZ. It's like drinking at 1/3 of the price.

Watch this as a primer, it's seeped in truth.

The Milwaukee Public Museum is pretty cool.  If you like cigars, there are a handfull of cigar bars, Shakers Haunted Cigar Bar being more of a once in a while experience than anything else - but its pretty cool if you are into vintage stuff.

TGI Friday's restaurant is nothing special.  But there is one located inside Miller Park that is open year 'round, and Miller Park is a top-notch modern baseball stadium.  You could eat a large burger that tastes "okay", while marvelling at the grandeur inside the stadium.
