Anyone killed anything yet?
Looking to get into bow hunting next year...was never interested before, always a gun hunter, but the length of the season and warmer temperatures really has me interested. |

... and warmer temperatures .... Warmer temps are not your pal. You have to gut fast and pull a couple bags of ice out of a cooler to put in the carcass. You don't have all day to drag the carcass out or drive it around. You can't hang it up in the garage and butcher it at your leisure. From the time the arrow flies until the meat is butchered into coolers on ice, you're in a race. |

We hunt doves all day long, clean them all at the end of the day...so ones shot at dawn have sat around in 80º weather all day long...never had a problem. Same with squirrels...yet as soon as it comes to deer, people freak out if temps are over 40º...I always clean deer the day of the shot, no big deal to me. We have a chest freezer and a large refrigerator specifically for deer. From being hung up to the quarters in the cooler/freezer is less than a half hour typically...I don't have a problem with temps upwards of 80. I'm hunting no further than 15-30 minutes from home. It will probably take me longer to drag it to the truck. |
| A favorite time for me is the first two weeks. Probably killed more bucks in this time frame than the rut. More time for ducks then. It helps to have your own land get em out quick with the ATV and have the local butcher a few miles down the road. Good luck all this season. |

You missed out on some great private land that mmsd owns in franklin, germantown and mequon. It was by lottery to bowhunt this land. What is mmsd and how does one get into the lottery? I know the DNR post a list of private land that can be hunted because farmers have enrolled in a wildlife damage program where they must allow hunters on their property and are given kill tags. I havent heard of this mmsd lottery before. https://dnrx.wisconsin.gov/wdacp/public/enrollment/2012/deer |

Double shoulder blade pass through are no problem for this old girl!! |

Love these pics guys!
I found a pretty prime spot while I was out squirrel hunting some public. The only problem...it's about a mile away from the parking lot, and probably 800+ feet lower than the parking lot...lol, this is going to be a horrific drag... Depending on who is around if I happen to get a deer down there and how big the deer is, I might have someone float a canoe down the river and float it out. The only issue I'm going to have is this spot is right on a river...hopefully they stay on my side of the river. If not, not a huge deal, but I'm either going to get wet, or walk a mile out, drive 20 miles around, and walk another mile ish back in to that side of the river... |

Not yet....but hunting is going to be SLOOOOOW this year up in Vilas County I fear :( I've got fall turkey tags too so I just figure whatever comes along....gets it! Maybe better than you think. I've seen a lot more deer this summer than in any of the past 6-7 years. I haven't bought an archery tag since 2005, because the deer numbers were so down... but it looks like they're coming back up, and quickly. A lot of fawns around (looks good for the next few years) but a lot of adults too. We saw a nice big racked buck, on Hwy J just out of St. Germain, at 5am one morning last week while on our way to duck hunt. He was standing on the edge of the woods as we went by, then ran across the road right behind us. I was afraid he'd hit the boat I was towing. He was huge, maybe 12pts, or better. And fricken turkeys are everywhere. I've got a tag for unit 7 too. |

Last weekend I saw one nice buck and a smaller one and 2 does. Loads of scrapes in the woods that had been untended for a few days, but there were 10-12 of them on the old logging trails around the woods.
Good luck to all of you. If I could figure out this posting picture thing, I would post pics of a nice buck on the camera. So if you have the instructions in simple form please share. I had a photo bucket account but that never worked right on this site. It was fine for archerytalk.com. |

I've been seeing lot's of deer movement the last 2 days. Rut is definitely in high gear right now. Sure is. Over the weekend I saw 4 differant situations of bucks chasing does. One was a real nice 10pt that ran right across my driveway, chasing a doe & 2 fawns, at about 1:30pm yesterday (just before halftime of the Packer game |

He was huge, maybe 12pts, or better.
